14. Clock

I sit up, in a panic, glance at the time, a few minutes to midnight. I lay back down and let the covers swallow me whole. My eyes close, I feel so awake, yet all I feel like doing is sleeping. Confusion sweeps over me, what had made me sit up in such a panic. I had felt relieved after checking the room, and the time. Wait, I sit up, quickly scanning my surroundings. This seems all too familiar. The girls are all gone! Panic floods over me. I force the covers to collapse onto the cold floor, I grab my hoodie to put on and keep me warm. It isn't as warm as what my soft bed is, but it keeps the little heat I had in me from escaping out into the coldness of the night.

I traipse to the door, hoping that my silent search would find the girls about here somewhere. I creep out of the bedroom and to the stairs. I feel a chill, I shiver, I wrap my arms around myself, closing off any exits for the heat to escape. I still hear nothing other than my soft, cold breaths, drifting from my mouth. The walk to the bottom of the stairs feels long, and scary. When I reach the bottom of the stairs, I pause, listening for talking, whispering, breathing, but I hear nothing, not a sound.

My fear increases as I continue my journey to the living room, hoping to find the girls in there, sleeping, after watching a late night movie. They do have a reputation for awaking late at night and creeping downstairs to watch a movie, I smile hoping this is the case, then another, single word thought pushes it's way to the front of my mind, Dalek. I gasp, knowing it was only a dream, yet the Doctor said they were real, and the way this was going, it certainly felt like the dream was a warning of what was to come.

I reach the cold dark living room, I reach for the light switch, nothing happens, I flick it upwards and downwards a few times, realizing it wasn't going to make a difference how many times I play with it. Chills spiraling up my spine cause me to shiver, goosebumps to form on my arms, stepping a little further into the living room, I see it is empty, with no signs of life. Bang! I jump in fright gasping in the cold, dark air surrounding me. I let out a soft whimper.

Fright takes over me, I reach for the note the Doctor gave me in my pocket, maybe if I call him, I won't die, maybe he will help me. Instead of pulling out the Doctor's note I pull out the note from the anonymous sender. I re-read each word carefully, I pull out the small fob watch which came with it. The note said, to only open it when I relived a dream, but only at midnight. I glance at the large clock in the hall, it only just turned to a minute to midnight.

I was still curious though, I still wanted to know more of this Dalek. I lightly jogged upstairs, trying to keep silence at bay, I didn't have long left, I was going to be wary of this Dalek, I was going to interrogate it without dying this time. I reach the top of the stairs, I march towards the bedroom door, I take grasp of the handle, I take hold, ready to open the fob watch at the sight of a Dalek, I force my way in.

The room is still in darkness, and still has a slight coldness to the air. As I feared, the room is still empty.

'EXTERMINATE'

I hear that word, that had caused me so much worry, the clock hadn't quiet struck 12 yet. I moved closer towards the closet, I watch as the door burns open, I hear it moving from inside, my breathing quickens as panic come over me. The Dalek emerges,

'You are Alex Jones, correct?' I know what is coming, my death is closing in, getting nearer and nearer to me, getting so close it's almost reaching out and pulling me.

'I am Alex Jones, and you are a Dalek, correct?' I decide to play it out differently from my dream hoping for a different outcome.

'I am a Dalek, you are Alex Jones... you must die... EXTERMINATE!!!' it's gunstick fires at me, it hits me as the clock strikes twelve. I feel pain zap through me, I fall back onto my bed, a single tear escaping my eye, the fob watch that I was grasping, falls to the ground.
