15. You Deserve Happiness

‘Beach 50m’ the sign read. Making my way around the sign; I continue to walk on the long road of gravel, small black pebbles and rocks jumping all over the place and onto my shoes every time I tried running in an attempt to catch up to him.

“C’mon, you’re so slow! It’s literally right over there- I can see it.” Harry mocks, walking towards me.

“My feet are being bombarded by rocks and my feet hurt; it isn’t my fault that someone didn’t want to drive their ‘very’ expensive sports car on the gravel road- so instead they made us walk it.” I pout; crossing my arms, but still continuing to make my way over to him.

“Here, but I wonder whose fault that was.” He says picking me up bridal style; I quickly gasp hugging my arms tightly around his neck- afraid of falling, my legs hanging over his arms.

“Definitely not yours or mine- for sure.” I reply resting my head against his chest, listening to his soothing heartbeat.

Around me; I can hear the sound of the sea crashing against the rocks, the fresh scent of sea-water filling the atmosphere, the sight of seagulls soaring in the clear blue sky above. I jump out of Harry’s arms; steadying myself on two feet, taking in the beautiful view.

“It’s… beautiful.” I speak, my eyes scanning along the clear blue water as Harry stands beside me- replying with a single smile plastered on his face.

He intertwines his fingers with mine as we begin to make our way towards the water. We walk along the shoreline, talking and joking around for a while our smiles never-ending. It felt like we’d been here forever; but it probably had only been a few hours. Since we finished rehearsals at 3pm, the both of us snuck out the back without anyone knowing- so we’d make it here during daylight. The sun began to slowly melt into the pink horizon as the moon slowly comes into view- even though it was only like 5pm, what can you expect… London’s nights come earlier in winter.

“You know, you’re not as bad as I thought Styles.” I admit; ruffling up his hair, our other hands still intertwined.

“Same to you- Cooper.” He says chuckling.

“No, don’t call me that- please. Gosh- I hate it so much.”

“Cooper, Cooper, Cooper…” Harry says, a grin plastered on his face.

“Oh no you didn’t.” I state, pushing him into the water with a big splash- completely drenching him with water. His T-shirt stuck to his muscular chest, his wet hair covering his eyes, his skinny jeans dripping with water; as I continue to laugh.

He glares at me before starting to chase me along the water; the squelching sand making it difficult to run, but I still had somewhat of a lead on him… until his strong arms were suddenly wrapped around me, his wet chest against my back- quite a comforting feeling (besides the fact that he is drenched in water and he is dragging me towards the water).

“No, Harryyyyyy!!” I say closing my eyes shut and taking a breath, within seconds I am under the water; Harry’s arms still wrapped around me. Lucky Harry had said he wanted to get to know me without ANY interruptions; aka leave our phones in the car.

“Payback.” he simply says once we had re-surfaced; except he still decides to splash water at me, both of us throwing water in each other’s direction for a bit until we both give up. We walk out of the water in sync; our hair wet, clothes drenched, bodies freezing and our lips quivering.

“You didn’t think to bring at least one towel?” I ask laughing, hugging my arms closely to my chest.

“I didn’t think we would actually get wet if we were ‘only’ walking along the beach- talking and getting to know each other.” He says emphasising the word ‘only’.

“Anyway… c’mon, we’d better head to the car before we freeze out here.” He pulls me to his side, an arm snaking itself onto my waist, I copy his actions as I rest my head on his shoulder as we continue to walk up the beach.

We finally make it back to the car; it parked along the side of the road where we left it. The time was about 6pm and it was freezing, once Harry started the car he turned on the heat and started off down the road back home.

I turn my phone on; one text, from Liam… I open it, a smile suddenly appearing on my face.

I was wondering if you’d like to go to dinner with me tonight? I’ll meet you at The Hallcross on 63 Windsor Lane at 7pm? Just ask for the reservation under Payne, See you later princess <3

Liam. xx

I take a glance at the time on the dashboard; 6:37, it takes at least an hour to get back… Shit. My expression suddenly falls as I turn my phone off; darn it…

“Harry…” I say not even bothering to look away from my phone.

“Yeah…?” He asks curiously.

“Instead of dropping me off at my house, can you drop me off at 63 Windsor Lane- as fast as you can?” I look up, staring at the road ahead of me, the street lights glaring down onto the asphalt road.

I can only hope he would still be there…

We make it to a building with a large lit up sign that read ‘The Hallcross’ in big white letters. I thank Harry, kissing him on the cheek before hopping out of his car. As I run inside, the time hits 7:32pm. I look around; a very large restaurant looked back at me, it had beautiful crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, a line of windows along the far side or the room over-looking the river and soft music from the symphony orchestra played as many happy couples sat at tables, chatting away whilst drinking expensive wine; laughing and making fun of each other’s jokes… I wonder if I will actually ever have a happy ending like that; where we both love each other and will be together for…

“Excuse me miss, May I help you?” A older lady behind a counter says; looking at me with helpful eyes, a friendly smile on her face. Bringing myself back to reality I smile back.

“Umm… Is there a reservation under Payne?” I say, flattening out my hair.

“Ah- yes. Just go in the elevator, to the next floor.” She says pointing behind me; I say a quick thank-you before making my way to the elevator which was in fact behind me.

The elevator doors slide open; I stand there waiting for the doors to close, my heart beginning to pound out of my chest. The aggravating sound of elevator music fills my ears, my breathing beginning to calm down. We’re going to Australia in a few days; this was the last chance to go on a date with Liam… And it’s literally all ruined because of me. The elevator doors open once again; revealing a nearly empty room with no Liam, I walk cautiously over to the circular table- careful not to slip on any rose-petals. I sit down on the cold chair that was faced towards the large window to one side of the room; Liam must've been sitting here… The tears begin to swell my eyes, Liam really cares… or cared about me and while I was thinking about Harry, me and nothing else- Liam was putting his hard work into organising an amazing date… that never happened. I spot a note sitting on top of the plate beside me; I slowly unfold it, my hands beginning to shake.

I don’t know if you ever even came tonight- you’re probably with Harry but if you are reading this, just hear me out.

I saw you sneak off with Harry during rehearsals and saw how happy you two were so I thought it would be best if I kept it to myself. To the point, I think that it would be best if you choose him… I can tell you’re both happy when you’re together, you deserve happiness.

Yours truly, Liam. xx

The tears begin to stream down my face as I look out over the view- it’s beautiful. There are buildings lit up everywhere and the river flows right past the restaurant, the moon light gleaming against the silver water. Slightly in the distance I can see the London Eye; it sparkling in the cold night of England, the sky a dark shade of blue and black, the stars only just visible through the thick clouds that hung in the sky. I sat at the table; two plates sat on the table; joined with cutlery, two wine glasses and the red rose petals were spread out on the ground and a few lying on the tablecloth. The lighting in the room was light and there was nothing else in the small room, except the table I now sit at… I wipe my cheeks with the back of my palms as I sit in the comforting silence for a while, before making my way back down to the restaurant, tear stains down my cheeks and note in hand.
