Things are Different Now

A Johnlock fanfic based when Sherlock returns...

1. Chapter 1

John woke up early in the morning. It wasn't the first time. He often woke up after dreaming that he'd heard Sherlock playing his violin that had laid, unused on Sherlock's chair for the past three years. He went into the living room and stopped in his tracks. He'd been on his way to the kitchen but he suddenly forget about that when he saw a figure sat in Sherlock's chair. It was Sherlock. He stood up.

"John," he said

"Three years." John ran to Sherlock and punched him, tears falling from his eyes.

"THREE YEARS!" he yelled and then he stopped hitting him and just hugged him and cried. Sherlock hugged him back.

"I was only trying to protect you." said Sherlock softly and he kissed him on the head. John continued to cry.

"John, it's okay. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

"Three years, Sherlock. It's been three years and you haven't contacted me. I've not known that you were still alive. Three years I've been waking up early and the sound of your violin has stopped by the time I opened my eyes.." He was crying so much more than he had been five minutes previously.

"I was always there John, everywhere you went, I followed you. I had no choice. I had to die. I did it for you, I did it all to protect you. Do you remember the last words you said to my face, before the phone call?" John shook his head. "You told me that friends protect people. they were the last words you said to my face before I jumped. I was there, at the grave, the day you came with Mrs Hudson. The day you said that you could never be convinced that I lied to you. I've been watching you from a distance all this time. Moriarty would have killed you. And Lestrade. And Mrs Hudson if I hadn't jumped. I had to be sure that coming back wouldn't get the three of us killed. That's why I left it so long. I understand, you've moved on. I know I don't deserve forgiveness. I just hope we can at least be friends again."
