The Immortal

Would you fight the evil that surrounded you? Would you risk your life to save another's? Would you try to save the whole human race? Well, would you?

If anyone had told Avia Green she was the only person in the world that couldn't turn immortal she would of laughed. Immortality? Demons? Evil? Please. But what if one man is trying to destroy the human race with what Avia created inside her head. What if Avia is the only one that can destroy him? What if the whole world is relying on Avia to free them of their evil spirits? Yeah what if.

3. Secrecy

I listened as my voice was sung into my ear, echoing off dark walls. It was delicate and sweet, making my head stop pounding from getting slammed into the ground and relieve the sharp pain. I flickered my eyes open to see a bright light shining onto me, blinding my eyes.

"Finally, we thought you were going to sleep for hours!" a tall pale haired girl spoke dryly. Her voice wasn't sweet like the girl that woke me but more husky and bitter. As my eyes adjusted to the light I noticed two girls standing in front of me, their hands placed firmly on their hips.

"The names Havana," the shorter one grinned, her pearly whites sharper then normal. "And this is my sister Grace."

Grace gave me a smile of her own, beaming her teeth in my direction that also seemed sharp. Maybe it ran in the family?

"We just want to ask you some questions so there's no need to be afraid" Havana winked. Frightened, I struggled against the chains that were holding me down and winced as it cut into my sensitive skin.

"So delicate..." a tough voice whispered behind me, sending little shivers down my spine. He soon came into view and I gasped as the boy from before stood proudly beside me.

"Oh and that's our brother Cole," Grace muttered with boredom. I couldn't help it. I was extremely pleased they were related and not dating. Not like I was going to date him or anything, he is a sociopath after all.

"What type of questions?" I whimpered. Stay strong Green.

"Questions involving your purpose in the world and how you are the only one who can save all man-kind," Havana giggled, obviously amused by the shocked expression on my face.

"C-can you at least t-tell me where I a-am," I stuttered. Great now the stutter was coming into play.

"Don't worry you're still on school property," Grace smiled. She sat down on another chair and crossed her slender legs as her siblings studied my expression. "Alright let's start with-"

"Stop!" a voice cried, echoing from the shadows of the room. I heard a bang of a gun, a scream and then all hell broke loose.

Cole had grabbed me and had ripped of my chains. As soon as I was loose I went for a punch but he blocked and pushed me hard into the cold stone walls. I heard Grace hiss and dive for the intruder but miss and another rattle of bullets flying around the room.

"Get off me!" I screamed, tugging at Coles shirt and kicking him in the gut. Wincing, he stood back and I finally got a punch in, making him fall back so I could escape.

"Going somewhere?" a sleek voice hissed behind me. Before I could reply Havana had pounced onto my back and tackled me to the ground. She turned me to face her as she started clawing at my neck, a needle in her hand. She was trying to knock me out!

Rolling over onto Havana, I looked to see Jamie pushing Grace out of the way and running towards me. With a final shove I got up and grabbed Jamie's hand, both of us bolting out of the cold room and up a flight of stars. When we got to the top, I realised we were in the school storage basement and we bolted for the exit, noticing it was ten minutes until school ended.

"Are they following us?" I panted as we sprinted down the street, the storm finally gone leaving just a cold breeze. Remembering the cloud, I looked up at the sky. It had cleared up and all that was left were some white clouds but no cloud with a dark blue aura around it. Phew.

I watched as Jamie hid his gun in his belt and continued to sprint forward, "I don't think so, they seem to attack but never follow."

We turned the corner onto our street and finally stopped at Jamie's, his mum standing in the front garden, watering her garden beds.

"Jamie! Avia! You guys are home early," she said, her voice full of concern as we calmed down from the small sprint, "And why do you look so stressed?"

"We were let out early and we just were held up in a crowd that's all," Jamie lied, his mother nodding as she placed her watering can onto the ground.

"Well that's a bonus," the plump lady grinned, "I was just doing some gardening."

"And I must say," I replied politely, admiring her red and yellow roses that were fully bloomed, "Your garden is beautiful."

"Oh your such a sweetheart. Come in, come in! I just made fresh orange juice and it's delicious!"

Jamie rolled his eyes as we followed his mother into their home, the afternoon sun shining onto her green wooden door. The King household was very old but had a warm and cosy feel to it. Pink and cream wallpaper covered the walls and old creaky boards covered the ground, creaking as we stepped into the kitchen where yellow tiles blanketed the area.

"Wow what's cooking?" I asked, as I smelt baking goods.

"Oh just a cake for my good friend Barbara's birthday. She's turning 60, can you believe it?" she chuckled, taking off her large sunhat and pouring us some glasses of juice. Mrs King (also known as Karen) has known our family for many years. She's much older then my mum but the King's had always been my second family, being my babysitters when I was young.

"It smells amazing," I grinned, sitting down at the dining table next to Jamie.

Karen walked over and gave us a cup each, smiling before grabbing her hat again, "Why thank you darl, I'll let you kids chat for a bit while I go back to the garden. I'll just be out front if you need me."

"Thank you," Jamie and I said in sync as she disappeared down the hall. I sat around to face him and took a sip of orange juice.

"What just happened back there?

He sighed and sculled the juice down before replying, "I would really like if you stayed out of this Avia."

"I was just part of what just happened! You can't keep this away from me forever," I snapped.

"Yes but I can keep this away from you for as long as I possibly can. I'm doing this to protect you Avia," Jamie sighed, running his fingers through his hair in annoyance.

"Protect me? What if these people need my help?" I asked.

Jamie looked even more annoyed, "They just kidnapped you! I just rescued you! Where's my thank you and 'Oh Jamie your my hero!"

Anger flared in my chest and I stood up without thinking. I finished my juice and looked up at the clock that told me my part-time job was starting in ten minutes, "I need to go."

"Avia I-"

"Save it for someone who cares."

I cleaned up my cup and walked out before Jamie could say anything else. It was obvious he didn't want me to hang out with Cole, Havana and Grace but why? If he didn't tell me soon it would be too late. I was going to get to the bottom of this.

I span around to see Mrs King still working on her roses. I couldn't tell her the truth, she didn't need to know.

"I need to get to Trixie's," I smiled, stepping out past the gate and into the street, "I'll be late if I don't head off soon."

"Oh alright love, have fun!"

I laughed, "Sure thing, thanks for the juice!" I ran ahead to get out of another in-depth conversation about orange juice and reached my house to see Ebony outside with the home phone in her hand.

"What?" I asked when she gave me an annoyed glance.

"Someone's on the phone saying they need to talk to you." Jamie.

I walked over and snatched the phone out of her hand before walking into the living room.

"Avia, how nice of you to run away from us this afternoon," a deep voice spoke and automatically I knew it was Cole. Even over the phone I felt weak from his tone.

"What do you want?"

"We need to speak to you in person, this is very important and we promise if you agree we will not tie you up like last time," he replied, a little humour in his voice.

"That's comforting."

"So, it's a deal?"

I thought for a moment. Jamie clearly told me to stay away but if I didn't go, how would I ever find out who they are and what they want? "Alright we'll speak tomorrow at the back of the science block. No one will find us there."

"Good, we're watching you Avia so don't think about telling your little rescuer," he grumbled, hanging up the phone.

They were watching me? And they new my phone number? Overwhelmed I fell onto the sofa and closed my eyes. I could die tomorrow. I could be walking into a trap without even knowing it. Exhaling I rubbed my temple and sighed. Only God knows what will happen tomorrow and I can only hope that it doesn't leave me with a bullet in my head.
