12. In My Eyes

Liam's POV

I don't know how to respond anymore. Should I even acknowledge the fact that she tries to make things right? At least she puts an effort but then again, if she's sorry every time, how can I tell when it's true and when it's fake?

She then later requested if we could meet up at the park again, to talk. Of course I agreed. I wanted to make things right. I have the character to make things right, even if it wasn't my doing.

I told her to give me some time. I needed to think things through and formulate on exactly what I want to say to her. I decided I would bring up the dinner with Harry and Niall and get to the bottom on exactly why she does what she does.

I may seem pushy and might be diving into this situation the wrong way but I am genuinely concerned for her. I care about her too much to just see her throw away her life.

After some time I had convinced Diana to just come over my house since I was in no mood to go out. I persuaded her well when I told her that there will be a pillow fort in the living room later that night. She didn't hesitate for an answer.

I heard the predictable knock on my door while I was making myself some dinner. I went over to the front door and unlocked it and opened up to see Diana standing there in duckie pajamas and a hoodie with her hair up. Even when she wasn't trying could I still see her beauty.

I invited her in and she took a comforting seat on the couch.

"Mmm. Smells good. Watchya makin?"

"Just some pasta. Do you want some?"

"Sure."

I made my way back to the kitchen and finished up the food putting it into 2 separate bowls. I put one onto each hand and walked myself over to Diana where she was sitting on the couch in the living room. I bent slightly as I gave her her bowl.

"Thanks."

We began to eat and silence over took us. I wanted to say something but I just couldn't find the right words. I had it all planned out in my head and now I have nothing. I was pulled out of my labored thoughts when Diana decided to speak up.

"Okay Liam, I'm not going to sit here and pretend like nothing happened. I'm sorry that I keep screwing up and I'm sorry that I keep pushing you away. I'm just afraid."

"Afraid of what? You have nothing to be afraid of. You can trust me."

"I know I can. Just don't take this personally. I just...I don't know. I guess I was always one to shun out the people I love."

I almost dropped my bowl on the floor at her words. Did she say that she loved me? She must have realized what she had confessed too because her eyes were wide and her mouth was open. I was just waiting for that one answer.

"Y-you...love me?" I asked as I turned towards her while setting my plate on the table. She had done the same and she took my hands into hers.

"I guess? I don't know Liam. And I'm only saying that because if I say it, then I'm confirming it. And I don't want to confirm it because I don't want you getting hurt like I will. So don't say it. Don't you dare say it." By now tears were threatening to spill out of her eyes, but I was ready to catch them.

"Diana, I...I do love you. And no matter what I always will. You have had the biggest impact on my life and I just met you. How is that possible? Whatever cracks were left on your heart, I will mend them. Whatever scars were left behind, I will heal them."

I took her arm and gently rolled her sleeve up. I wasn't expecting to see such fresh wounds. She quickly took her arm away and rolled the sleeve back down. It angered and upset me that she could do something like that to herself. It's not the scars that bother me, it's just what's behind them, their reasoning for being there.

I huffed and got up from the couch in search for a certain item. I'm only praying that this will work.

Diana's POV

He quickly got up from the couch and left leaving my startled self behind.

"Liam? Liam where are you going?" He came back into the room with something in his hands and a deep frown on his face. I got up and walked over to him.

"Here." He said holding his hand out which withheld a blade in his open palm. I just looked at him with disbelief.

"Wh-what?"

"Here! take it!" He grabbed my hand and dropped the blade in it and then stuck his bare forearm out to me.

" If you're going to cut yourself I want you to look me in the eyes and cut my arm as much as you do to yourself."

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Has he gone mad?

"What? No! Liam, stop!"

"Why? Why won't you do it?"

"Because I can't hurt you like that!"

I then understood everything.
