4. The Letter

Once I came back in from running after Professor Dumbledore, I read the letter he gave my parents.

Dear Mr & Mrs Barrett,

We are proud to inform you, your daughter has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. We will take into consideration that she has missed three years of education and will have her up to speed in no time at all. Please find enclosed three lists of necessary equipment and books and note that first,  second and third year books will be provided. Term begins 1 September. We await your owl no later than 31 July. Third-year students are permitted to visit the village of Hogsmeade on curtain weekends. Please sign the enclosed permission form.

Yours Sincerely,

Minerva McGonagall

Deputy Headmistress

I put the letter down on the table, and went to talk to my mum and dad. I took a deep breath before I said anything. “So the man who nearly killed was right.” I said, “I am a witch.”

“Hayden, don’t say that.” Mum replied. “It’s true. He said ‘I know you’re a witch’.” I answered back. “Yes, but you’re not the reason he had ergot poisoning.” Dad explained.

“But still, Dad.” I whined, “He was right. But know one knew it but him.” Everything went silent. Then I went upstairs to my room with the letter. I sat quietly reading the first equipment list.
