6. Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff or Slytherin

After filing off the train, Ron, Hermione and Harry left me with the first-years. Apparently I had to be treated like a first-year until I’ve been sorted. I suck out like a sore thumb. My head looming over the others. Then an abnormally tall man with a brushy black beard led the group to a group of rowboats where we were to cross the lake.

Once we arrived at the shore, we were lead to the entrance hall where we waited to be let into the Great Hall. Then a tall middle-aged woman came to us and introduced herself as Professor McGonagall. After a few minutes of her talking she led us into the Great Hall. As we walked in, I noticed a lot of people staring at me. I could imagine what they were thinking.

Then we stopped at the front of the hall. “Now when I call your name you will sit on the stool and the sorting hat will choose your house.” Professor McGonagall instructed then she referred to her list “Armstrong, Rachel.” A little fair haired girl in the front walked up to the stool and sat down as Professor McGonagall placed the ragged old hat onto her head.

“Ravenclaw!” the hat hollered, then loud cheers came from the long table on the far left. The rest of the sortings when exactly likes the first.

“Bailey, Tabitha.”

“Creevey, Dennis.”

“Randall, Emily.”

After all of the first years had been sorted, Professor McGonagall made announcement. “We also have a new fourth-year student joining us. She will be joining normal fourth year classes after Christmas.” Then she checked her list “Barrett, Hayden.” I stepped forward and sat on the stool. Everyone had his or her eyes on me.

Then the hat started to talk, “Hmm,” It said “Lots of courage, I see. A lot of generosity too. But then there’s a weakness. Powerful weakness. A weakness like none other that I’ve seen. Better be… Gryffindor!” I looked over at the table closest to the middle on the right and saw that Hermione, Harry and Ron had saved me a seat. I walked quickly to the table as Gryffindors of all ages clapped and cheered.

Once I sat down I figured out what the hat meant by ‘weakness’. It meant my regular panic attacks. But I didn’t tell that get me down as I tucking into a hearty meal that had magical appeared on the table.
