13. Setting Out

"Uh, what happened to me?" Amber sat up on the cold ground and looked around. All the others were beginning to stir as well. She held out her hand in front of her to warm herself a little, but instead of getting a nice blast of hot air she got a blast of something else. Snakes. They seemingly appeared out of thin air and flung themselves at her. Amber's shocked scream made the other jump up and run over to her.

"What happened?" Serena asked, picking off a snake from the girl's shoulder.

"I was gonna heat myself up, but then these - these snakes came hurtling at me!" Amber explained, gesturing angrily at the small green snakes that slithered into the surrounding bushes.

They were interrupted by Lily's gasp. Amber turned, only to find Lily staring in agony at a wilted flower in her hand.

"The - the flower - it died!" She wailed, unable to peel her eyes off of the daisy slumped in her palm. "I killed it!"

"Hey!" Matt yelled at Aaron. "You burnt me!" He said indignantly, holding his wounded thumb bitterly. Suddenly, he disappeared.

Aaron looked around confused. "Who - who said that?"

"Uh, me," Matt's voice came through a cloud of darkness next to Aaron.

"Where?" Aaron asked, whirling around like a dog chasing his own tail.

"Seriously?" Matt suddenly popped back into view and waved his hand in front of his friend's face.

Everyone exchanged a confused look. "What's going on?" Ash asked.

"Wait a second…" Luke said, a contemplating look coming over him as he stepped back and looked at the group. "The stone - it's switched our powers!"

"What are you talking about?" Amber asked.

"When Nick revealed the stone, we all passed out. When we woke, we had each other's powers. It must've been the stone! Nick, why I'd love it to come over there and give you a piece of my mind…" He walked off, angrily running his fingers through his hair.

"That little... I'm gonna hunt him down and kick his traitorous butt!" Jay flexed her shoulders as if to spread her wings, but no wings came out. Jay gasped in horror and started to claw desperately at her back.

"What do we do now, though?" Lily asked nervously.

"Well obviously we need to find out what powers we have. Then we go and find Blaze. I'll be he has the antidote." Aaron instructed.

"I think I have Lily's powers." Amber said, inspecting the hand that made the snakes.

Jay concentrated. Her eyes widened as her body slowly morphed until it was completely stone. "I lost my wings for this? Who has my wings?!"

Ash keeled over. Out of his back sprouted two black dragon wings. After a few experimental flaps, the dark boy stepped foreword."I think I do. I'm so sorry."

"That's okay, I guess. Besides, you do look kinda hot with wings." Jay grudgingly admitted.

"I'm pretty sure I have Serena's powers," Luke said after sending a blast of water into the sky.

As the water rained down on them, the other teens started to experiment with their new-found powers.

"I, uh, have Aaron's powers?" Serena's voice swirled around the group, and three copies of her appeared in the clearing.

          "Yeahhhh…" Aaron confirmed.

"Well, found our powers. Check." Amber said, gesturing around. "What's next again?"

Lily spoke up. "Go find Blaze!" She raised her hand as if to rally her troops.

Everyone looked at her with shocked expressions, and Lily dropped her hand. Jay stepped forward. "I'm in!" She said, putting her hand on top of Lily's.

Ash placed his hand on top of his girlfriend's, and soon the whole group was huddled up, rallying for the perilous journey to find Blaze and the antidote.

The group of teens stood in a semi-circle, preparing to set off to find Blaze. Based off of their underground knowledge, Ash and Lily had felt pretty sure that the enemy's headquarters were located somewhere in Arizona.

"Where's Serena?" Lily asked, looking around to search for the absent girl.

"Right here!" Serena suddenly materialized in front of the group. "Aaron, these powers are so cool!"

          "Uh, thanks?" Aaron said uncertainly.

"Well, now that everyone's here," Jay said with a pointed look at Serena, "Let's go!"

The group stood in a semicircle, getting ready to underground travel to find Blaze.

Lily and Amber, who now had the underground powers, started to concentrate on opening a wide tunnel, large enough for the entire group to pass through two across. After they shut their eyes and channeled all of their energy and focus to one patch of dirt, a rumbling could be heard and a hole burst from the earth. After the dust had cleared, a dark tunnel could be seen.

"Alright!" Ash said, "Let's go get that little brat!"

"Wait, wait! I'm not going down there!" Jay protested.

"You have to. C'mon Jay! Do you want your pawers back or not?" Ash said, nudging her towards the gaping mouth of the tunnel.

The girl's eyed widened in terror. "No." She insisted, her voice scarcely more than a whisper.

Ash scooped up Jay in his arms. "I don't care. You're coming with us whether you like it or not!" Jay screeched, but Ash just laughed.

"NO!!! You don't love me! If you did, you wouldn't make me do this!" Jay crossed her arms and turned into solid stone.

Ash chuckled yet again, unfazed by the sudden change in weight, and led the way into the opening, the others close behind.
