Sydney's POV
My name is Sydney Cade, I'm fourteen, and I'm a Greaser. I live in Tulsa Oklahoma on the east side of town with my two older sisters'. Jamie the oldest, and she's twenty. She's the provider of the family, she graduated early and went to college for three years, but she had to come back to take care of me and Cara. She might be going back next semester, I aint quite sure because she don't tell me nothing. Then there's Cara, she's 17, she isn't that great at her school work but she gets by, she says the only way she'll get into college is a scholarship for sports. She is real good at high jump. Then theres me, the youngest, Im in tenth grade. I skipped a few grades, Jamie says I could be something if I stick to my academics, I do volleyball ,but, Its more of an "No Greasers Allowed" situation. I go to school with PonyBoy Curtis. And I had heard of his friends. I never thought I would actually talk, let alone become friends with him. . .

It all started when I was walking home from school. I had just passed the old lot when they approached me. The air was cold, but, their presence was far colder. We may have won the rumble but not the people. They still think the Soc'es are innocent and us greaser are "White Trash". Im now near the new brick building on the corner across from my street when Jimmy Kimble pushed me up against the cold hard brick wall holding me by my neck, up at least a foot above the ground and made me drop my books. "Well looky here boys another filthy Greaser". Jimmy knocked my books out of my grasp. " Man its such a shame that such a pretty face was stuck in such a pathetic crowd". Jimmy said. "Hey Donny, hand me your switchblade". As he said that he looked at me with a disgusting, sinister grin.

I know what your probably thinking "how could he hurt a girl?" Well he's done it to me and other girls. Including my sister Cara. . . I now was starting to get a cold sweat. Don handed Jimmy the switchblade. And with that its as if a ghost drew on  a devil's smirk. "PLEASE DONT HURT ME!PLEASE!PLEASE!" I was screaming at the top of my lungs. " Too little, too late doll face!" He raised the blade to about an inch above my right eyebrows and cut into my skin. The pain was unbearable, I shrieked with pain. I was trying to fight back but I couldn't. Jimmy and his buddies Donny Framiel and Mike Pollster were laughing like there was no tomorrow. Just before Jimmy could get to my neck, PonyBoy and his friends  showed up. Pony ran and tackled Jimmy to the ground. Keith, Steve and Darry attacked Don and Mike. As I fell to the gravel Soda came and met me there. Holding my neck gasping for air I watched as the others scare off the soc'es.
Soda knelt next to me and ripped a piece of his shirt off and used it to stop the bleeding. "Are you alright?" He asked with consideration. Pony, Keith, Steve and Darry were now sitting next kneeling near us.. "Ya, I-Its just a cut". It was more than just a cut, there was pain in every word I said. "Here lemme see" Darry says. I removed the piece of ripped shirt from my forehead. "Well Jimmy got you good, but nothing too traumatic. We'll take you back to our house to patch you up. Do you live far?" I actually live near them, just five houses down. "No, just five houses down the road from you guys". Darry nodded then helped me up. "Well its 'bout time you know our names. I'm Darry, and these are my brothers, Sodapop and Ponyboy". Darry introduced. "Ya I know Ponyboy". Pony was had a very confused look on his face. "We go to school together. We have creative writing together". I explained. " Oh ya, thats right your Sydney Cade, you sit in the back of the room two desks away from mine". Pony said confirming my existence."Well now,now that we all know remembers each other just call me Two-Bit" Oh I always thought his name was just Keith. " And I'm Steve Randle". So many people. Darry gave us a "Lets get home" look.
I quickly tried to stand up, but when I was at my feet I Got really light headed and fell to my knees. Darry then told Pony to help me up and grab my books for me. I got on Pony's back and we started on walking. I felt so awkward, I hoped he didn't think I was heavy. We were about 8 or 9 feet behind the rest of the guys. " Sorry if I'm getting too heavy to carry" I said. " No your fine. Steve is hard to carry, your far from that". Even though I was in a lot of pain his comment made me laugh. "So why were they trying to skin you back there?" "I don't really know, they kinda just came out of nowhere." I was starting to slip off of Ponys back so he kinda jumped to get me back on.
****
We got back to the house and Darry cleaned out my cut, and managed to find a band-aid. "Thank you, for helping me." I don't know why but I hugged Darry. Darry was a bit surprised but hugged me back. "Uh no problem, I guess. Hey Pony! Walk Sydney home and make sure she gets home safe." Then Darry and Soda gave Pony a wink. I don't really know what that was about but Pony blushed and as we walked outside he hit Soda in the arm and Soda just laughed. We started on our way to my house but then Pony had an idea. "Hey well it's only 4:30. Do you uh-want to go to the lot?" I quickly agreed, and we turned around to head to the lot. This is so weird, is this some weird way of asking me out or something? Why is this so confusing, I had always kinda hung out with guys, why is it so weird and awkward when I'm with Ponyboy.
When we got to the lot we sat down on one of the benches. We just talked about everything under the sun: our lives childhood, school, literally everything. It was really unexpected but we really connected. Time flew by real quick, it was now eight o'clock. "Wow time really went by. I need to hurry on home or Jamie is going to freak!" "Alright I'll walk you home."

The walk back to my house was silent. I think thats only because we ran out of things to talk about. When we got to my doorstep I peeked in through the window. Oh thank God, Neither Cara nor Jamie were home yet. All the tenseness disappeared, so then I turned all of my attention towards Pony Boy. There was an awkward silence until I broke it. " So uh, thanks for helping me back there." "Oh-uh no problem." Pony said. Again he started to blush! I don't get it, why does he always blush? Before I knew it our eyes met, his greenish-gray eyes were glistening. My heart began to race. I swear Pony could hear it too. When I closed my eyes to blink, before I knew it, Pony planted his lips on mine. I'm not one to be cheesy ,but, it was amazing. When we pulled away,  Pony was as red as a tomato. I can't blame him , I felt like my cheeks where on fire. We were both smiling and we didn't stop looking into each others' eyes. "So-uh, see you tomorrow?" He asked. "Yeah, I guess I'll see you tomorrow." We then hugged said good bye and I watched him walk to the road. He stopped and waved and then continued on walking. I know you think thats a bit weird to watch him walk away but it kinda hurt for him to leave.
