Left outside alone.

Dana's mother got sick and left her alone in a world with guns, cannibals and crazy people. She was 10 years then, now she's 18 . She doesn't trust anyone and has no problem killing. She's not scared and quite strong, but will she survive alone? or will she have to get along and make a group with what she hates the most (people) to stay alive?

4. Recurring return.

I dropped the gun and walked backwards slowly, my heels spun and my feet stumbled to the car were I told The beaten up guy he should stay. He was gone, of course he was, he must have left as soon as I walked away. That’s why you can’t trust anyone, they always leave you. I didn’t need him, but the knife I gave him…It belonged to my mother she gave it to me just before she died. Left me. I’m so stupid! I slapped my forehead, My eyes became wet and I was about to tear up, only the thought of my mom could do this to me.

Her hands locked mine around the knife.

“This is for you, Dana” she stroke my hair.

“This knife can maybe be the one to choose if you live or die one day”.

The flashback made me soften up and forget all about my anger, but it all came back to me when I heard Alan shout something angry. I sighed and looked down in a combination of sadness and rage, then I heard Alan’s shouting getting closer, I kicked the car tire and went off running deeper into the woods. I just ran and ran, didn’t have time to look where I stepped. I suddenly stumbled over something and burning pain went through my leg when I hit the ground. I let out a loud yelp when I got up again, I had to move on. Fast.

I turned around to make sure that I wasn’t being followed, I wasn’t. The sound of a car driving through the woods filled my ears after 5 min. of limping along the trees. I panicked and dragged my hurt leg with me as fast as possible, but the car caught up with me faster than I thought it would.

“Need a lift, sunshine?” that voice. I knew that voice. I looked up and saw ,,The beaten up guy”.  His arm was resting on the car door. It was the car filled with food from the camp. I glared surprised at him without moving. I just stood there looking stupidly at him.

”What? Why do you look so surprised? He said smiling at me, revealing some pretty white teeth.

“I…uhm” I looked down shaking my head. He grinned.

“Look, I owe you one, remember? You helped me and now I help you”.

I moved to the side of the car, then took a closer look at my leg; the sight of one of my own homemade, wooden arrows buried in it made the pain flare. The blood began pumping out slowly as I hopped into the car. I couldn’t believe he came back, I mean, it’s not like people tent to come back nowadays. The guy probably just wants my weapons, there must be an evil motive, there always is.

“What happened? he gasped, grapping some tissues. I started pulling and twisting it but the pain was too strong; making my eye flick.

“Hey easy now, if you twist it, you can damage your tissue or make it bleed further, and that’s the last thing you want right now” he said removing my hands. “We have to put some pressure on it first…here” he said taking his belt of.

“No, I got it. I don’t need help” I said moving a little away from him. He sighed and lifted his eyebrow.

“Please, you could get an infection” he pleaded holding the belt out. Why the f*ck did he care?

“I didn’t know you were a doctor” I said sarcastically. He smiled and his teeth revealed themselves again.

“No? well I tent to surprise people a lot” he joked and prepared his belt.

I let him help me but I was still worried about his attentions, he could kill me right there I wouldn’t be able to do anything about it. He wrapped the belt around my leg above the wound and tightened it. I didn’t like to be touched by strangers, I wasn’t used to it, never going to be.

“Don’t worry” he grinned “I know a thing or two about wounds, my dad was a medical doctor”. I wiped my brow as the sweat was pouring from me. That doesn't make you one, I thought. He examined the wound few minutes and then took his hoodie off.

“Here, this is going to hurt a little so if you feel like screaming, do it, but cover your mouth with this” he handed me the hoodie, “We don’t want the attract those things”. He’s smart, that’s always a plus. Maybe he’s smart enough to take advantage of my hurt leg?

”Are you ready?” he asked and placed his hand on the arrow. I closed my eyes and nodded.

“Argh!” I screamed into the hoodie, and felt something warm spreading on my leg.

“Okay, lift your leg” he said and wrapped something around the wound, I didn’t look I just continued screaming into the hoodie. I could feel the warmth from his hands working on my leg it gave me goose bumps. He took away his hands and I removed the hoodie from my face.  The wound was covered and the belt gone, it still hurts but it wasn’t that painful anymore.

“There you go, you should be able to walk normally in 2-3 days” he looked at me smiling big and then we drove off.
