Left outside alone.

Dana's mother got sick and left her alone in a world with guns, cannibals and crazy people. She was 10 years then, now she's 18 . She doesn't trust anyone and has no problem killing. She's not scared and quite strong, but will she survive alone? or will she have to get along and make a group with what she hates the most (people) to stay alive?

12. Blurred vision.

The pressure on my wrist disappeared slowly and I allowed myself to open my eyes again. Eric had kneeled down behind me and was cutting me free from the tight ropes. I frowned questioningly, surprised by his action; I thought he was going to kill me when he pulled his knife.

“My name’s Dana. I’m…” I paused at the thought of Warren “I’m not in a group. You people don’t need to know anything else about me, okay?” I didn’t want to hear the ‘famous’ questions again, so I thought, better just tell this Eric guy my name now and get over with it.

“So…Dana, I don’t know if you’re a danger, but I’ll cut you free for now” he said and threw the ropes on the floor.

“Where am I?” I fondled my sore wrists as I stood up.

“It’s a lab, this is just the underground part its way bigger upstairs” he looked down and seemed to be in deep thoughts “You look like you could need some new clothes” My eyes wandered down on my body and only now I realized I was in my oversized t-shirt; almost half naked and with blood covering it slightly. “Follow me” he said and waved his hand for me to follow, I nervously followed him. Before he opened the door he looked at me.

“Why are you limping?” he asked and frowned questioningly.

“I…cut myself on some glass” I lied, I didn’t want to tell everything about Alan, his group and Warren.

“Oh, we have a doctor who can take care of that” he said. I nodded.

He opened the metal door; it led us out in some kind of long hallway. I looked back as we walked. There was blood everywhere, on the walls, on the floor, even on the little lights that hung from the ceiling along the hallway. We went up some stairs and ended up in a small living room. I looked around; it looked like a normal living room, with chairs, couches, small tables and paintings of boats and planes. This room was nice, it’s the first time in many years I’ve seen a place like this. I didn’t really fit into this room, it was clean and neat while I was all bloody and looked like a filthy animal. I got a little dizzy again and I had to take a break for a minute. This headache was killing me.

“Are you coming?” Eric asked, I turned my head; he was standing in a doorway which seemed to lead into an enormous kitchen. I limped towards him, and dropped my jaw when I saw all the food supplies. The room was filled with canned food and tons of bottles with water. A tall chubby man stood at a stove and cooked something. The smell of professional cooked food stroked my lungs as I breathed in.

“H-How do you…?” I stuttered, completely blown away and surprised. The man turned with a little jump.

“Hey, Gus” Eric welcomed and patted the man, who I now knew was called Gus, on the back. Gus immediately smiled and swept his brow.

“Hey Eric! I assume that it wasn’t your voice I head before?” he giggled and Eric moved to the side so Gus could see me. I’ll think he was in his mid-forties, he was bald and was dressed like a chef. A quite big man if I should say it. “Who do we have here?” Gus said, cleaned his hands in a kitchen towel and held out his hand a little too enthusiastic. I just looked at it; there was something wrong I could feel it. Nothing could be so perfect, so unspoiled, so unaffected, it’s not possible. Too much happiness in one place… I backed off and frowned. Dizziness filled every corner of my body, and my eyesight went on and off like a light switch.

“Uhm, this is Dana, the girl Jimmy and Scooter found on the road” Eric answered.

“You should take her to see Larry. Scooter told that he hit her with a metal pipe and I guess he hit her pretty hard; she doesn’t look too good” Gus turned to the stove again. I met Eric’s questioningly glance and shook my head.

“I’m fine” I said and he nodded. We moved on. I followed him until we reached an empty room with two separated beds in.  One of the beds was all messy and beside it there was a bed table with weapons on it and a pack of cigarettes.

“We don’t have many bedrooms left. This is Steven’s room and well it’s also the only room who has a bed which is not being used” he said and pointed at the untouched bed “I know you guys don’t get along, or I assume you don’t since all the yelling and evil looks, but you’ll have to share bedroom with Steven” he searched for an reaction on my face.

“No wait…” I said shaking my head “I’m not going to stay” I backed a little away.

“Why not?” he looked surprised “You told me you didn’t have a group? And you’re in no condition to walk out there alone” he pointed out of a window.

“That’s right but I just can’t stay I…I just can’t” I said looking down. Eric was about to say something when Steven came into the room with a bowl of meat. He picked up some of the meat and threw it in his mouth. The chewing made my stomach writhe and I felt like throwing up. His eyes met us surprised and he stumbled some steps back. He glared asking at Eric but that glare turned into burning daggers as soon as he laid his eyes on me. I responded with a just as furious look back at him. My head started throbbing like crazy, as he threw his knife on the messy bed.

“What the hell are you doing in here?” he said and frowned at me. My vision blurred again, their faces turned into distorted images and my legs quivered under me. What’s going on with me? I tried to get a hold on myself by rubbing my temple easy.

“Well Dana…going…not…your bedroom…” I couldn’t understand a word Eric said. It was like I was shifting between conscious and unconscious. My body felt heavy as I slowly walked backwards, my elbow hid something and knocked it over. I could hear Steven yell something angry before everything went black. The last thing I heard was “Get Larry!” and then the distant sound of my body hitting the floor.
