Are You my Father?

"I'm your... daughter"
My mom died when I was 10, I was put into foster care. I finally found my dad, but what happens if he doesn't want me?

17. Chapter 17

I woke up in a white room. Two voices were coming from the corner. I slowly turned my head to see Kirsten and a doctor standing there. Kirsten was in tears while the doctor explained something to her. Their conversation went like this:

"If she wakes up she'll be fine, but remember she was very badly hurt. Let's not get our hopes up," The doctor looked sadly at her.

The tears steamed faster down her face as she said, "A-and i-if-f s-she d-d-doesn't wake u-up?" She stuttered her words so badly I could barley understand her. The doctor only shook his head. She held her face in her hands and cried even harder. The doctor rubbed her back for a while and sat down next to her. Neither of them seemed to notice me. I gathered up the strength to let out a moan. They both looked up with surprise. Kirsten ran over to me and pulled me into a hug. I groaned in pain and she gently set me down.

"Sorry, I forgot bout that," Her American accent rang through me ears, but it sounded fuzzy and far away. Her and my mom were both American, and they grew up in the same small town together. Her tears came down and splashed on my arm. After Kirsten let go the doctor moved around checking the machines, and asking me a bunch of questions. He asked me my name and birthday (May 16th). He then asked bout my parents, which Kirsten looked sad to hear bout Emily ditching me...she knew the real story...but I didn't know bout that, bout my school schedule, how many fingers he was holding up, etc. After playing 20 questions with him I got irritated and started giving him sassy responses. Kirsten had left the room to go tell the boys. It was a big hospital...I hope she didn't get lost. He chuckled and shook his head.

"They told me you'd be a tough one, you're strong inside and're very lucky Rosalie," He told me. "Do you know how long you've been out?" I shook my head.

"How long?!" I sat forward, the seconds of silence that followed seemed like centuries.

He sighed and continued, "A month," I shook my head in disbelief. It couldn't be half-way through November. "Do you remember what happened?" He asked me. Images flashed through my mind, stabbing, kicking, people other than Audrey were there, Callie's face when I screamed, my spilled duffel bag, the puddles of blood. I could hear their laughter and my screams. I shook my head and started to cry. The doctor nodded and gave me a hug. I didn't want to remember. His pager went off. He looked at it then back at me. "There's someone here to see you, do you want them to come in?" I nodded and wiped the tears from my eyes. He left the room and shut the door. A shadow crossed over the window and the door opened. I wasn't expecting who came through the door.

"...Dustin?!" I asked. He nodded and came over to sit on the side of my bed. "Y-you c-c-came to see m-me?" I stuttered. He nodded and leaned forward.

"Only when nobody else was here though..." He chuckled and I laughed with him. I loved his laugh, it was contagious. We talked for a little bit when he said that he needed to go before everyone else came in. I nodded and he grabbed my hand and kissed the top of it. I giggled and my cheeks blushed red. I glanced down at his hand and saw some scars on his knuckles. I grabbed his hand back and a worried look crossed my face.

"What happened?!" I whispered, flipping his hand over to see more scars. He shrugged.

   "Fight," He said.

"With who?!" I whispered, not able to bring my voice up any louder.

"Doesn't matter," I gave him a look of 'bullshit'. He shrugged again and said, "Fine, I got into a fight with those guys who hurt you after you were put in here,"

"Dustin!" I yelled. His hand clasped over my mouth. He let go and I dropped my voice saying, "You could've gotten hurt!" He shook his head and a grin came over his face. A laugh rumbled in his throat. He shook his head and turned to walk out. Just as he was about to open the door he turned when I said, "Dustin..."

"Yeah?" I looked him in the eye.

"Why does everyone but me think you're a bad guy?" His eyes got darker and his smile faded.

"Cause I'm known as the bad ass," With that he opened the door and left the room. A few minutes later Kirsten and all the boy came through the door. They all hugged me and were asking questions. I was giving them snippy responses, I'd already played 20 questions with the doctor I didn't want to do it again. They were all saying how happy they were that I was awake...and ok.

"Oh! I've got to text Sarah!" She grabbed her phone and hopped over to the window. Louis looked annoyed.

"Why does she need to know every update?! She's not even part of this family," Louis said to her. She shook her head in annoyance.

"She cares Lou," Her thumbs flying on the keyboard. I thought to myself 'If only they knew how much she was a part of this much she actually did care...'
