He's my Brother?!

A scarred freshman, Harper Johnson, was the biggest One direction fan ever- her favorite being Harry. She used the music they sang as an escape from her abusive dad, Travis Johnson. Like the average fangirl, she lie in her bed all day checking Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and Youtube and trying to get One Direction to notice her. But finally, after winning a contest, she wins a trip to LA to see a Little Mix concert. But what will happen when on the plane over, she sits next to her idol and life saver, Harry Styles?

4. Yelling

"Um, peppermint tea, please," I tell the cashier. I look at the clock above the cashier. It almost time to let out school.

While I’m waiting, I try to take out my phone, but realize my phone is not in my back pocket. It must have fallen out when I was sprinting away from Josh’s house.

I get my tea I turn away to see a breathless Josh looking around for me. I grab the tea and throw some money at the cashier. I look for an exit and decide on the one behind the counter. I run out and try to collect my bearings. I’m in a sketchy alley. I run to the end only to see Josh peeking out from a door and few yards in front of me. I turn and when I come out the other end I see I’m only a few blocks away from my house.

When I make it home, I fall onto the couch. I must have fallen asleep because I awaketo the sound of someone banging on the door.

“Harper, open the door!” He yells. I can clearly tell it’s Josh, and he doesn’t sound happy.

“Harper, I know you’re in there. I have your phone. Nice background.” He laughs at my One Direction wall paper. I decide to just not move.

“I swear I will break this door down!” He yells with sincerity.

“Well, fine” He doesn’t know I have three locks on my door and a Glock next to my couch. He kicks the door, but it doesn’t budge. I giggle.

“I heard that, Harper! Open the door!” He yells flustered.

There was no way I was going to open that door.

“You have to go to school tomorrow, Harper!”

I go downstairs to my bedroom. I can still faintly hear his threats and attempts to break down the door. I turn on my Spotify playlist on my computer to drown him out. I change into some shorts and an over-sized t-shirt. When I jump onto my bed I feel something squirm under me. Simba bats the bedroom door open and excuses herself with a loud hiss.

I see him. I’m running from him, but the further I run the closer he gets. I scared of what will happen. Suddenly, I’m in a room Saran wrapped to a table like Dexter’s victims. I feel a knife draw a smiley face on my left cheek. It feels all too familiar. I see a knife hovering above me.

I awake in a cold sweat shaking and crying. I get up, my head spinning in circles. I walk into my bathroom and take in the image before me. My hair is a mess and my eyeliner and mascara smudged.  I wash face and take off my make-up. I try to go back to sleep, but I can’t take the risk of going back to the hell that is my mind. I look at the clock. 5:34.

After forty-five minutes of tossing and turning, I peel myself from my bed to walk to the kitchen. I grab a bagel from the bag of bread a lady from my church gives out. Apparently this old lady works a Panera and they throw out their bread. She asks them every day if she can have the extra bread for her church. They won’t turn down a little old lady so they kindly give it to her. The whole church knows her as ‘The Bread Lady’. I spread some knock-off nutella onto it and eat it. I swear it’s the best thing it in the world.

After an half an hour of stalking One Direction on multiple social media sites in my PJs, I get up to put on some clothes. Again I wear something casual and comfortable. I wear a over-sized chevron shirt, a pair of mint green ombre pants, and white lacey Toms. I wish my school had a uniform.

I find that left my peppermint tea on the coffee table. I smile at my clumsiness and heat it up in the microwave a happily sip on it the whole way to school. I listen to Nightingale by Demi Lovato (link in A.N.) because it’s always a good way the start my day.

For a few seconds I’m not dreading going to school, but then I remember what happened last night. Josh will probably badger my all day now. He will run away. No one wants to be friends with a broken girl. I can’t tell him, yet.

I follow my normal morning routine. Get books, check the calendar on the side of my locker to see if I have any tests today, and go to Religion. When I walk into Religion, the class goes silent. This isn’t the first time this has happened. I casually go to my seat as the talking slowing gains volume.  I write down my homework. I turn around and for the second time, I see someone has sat down next to me. This time it’s not Josh, it’s Shelby. We used to be friends, but we grew apart in about 7th grade.

“What happened yesterday, Harp?” Shelby whispers.

“Ya, Harp,” Josh, who pops up in front of my, says mimicking Shelby’s voice, “What did  happen?”

Shelby must have felt the tension in the situation, because she shrinks to her little girl group.

I ignore him and pull out my binder to look over my notes for the test today.

“Harper, what happened! My mom thought I hit you because you left. Oh, by the way you dropped your phone.” He says thinking he has the upper hand.

I choose to just ignore him, again.

“You can’t just ignore me.” He hisses.

“Josh! Get in a seat!” Mrs. Benkert yells trying to start the lesson on Mesopotamian gods. I quickly direct my eyes to Shelby then the empty seat next to me so Josh can’t get it. She walks over and sits down and shrugs at her group.

“Now,” She looks around for someone not paying attention. “Harper, what is the name of the world’s first empire, who was their priest-king, and how long did he reign?”

“Well, Mrs. B” I say trying to think. “Mesopotamia, Sargon I, and over fifty years,” I say glad I read the chapter a few nights ago. Then, she asks me a harder question.

“OK, what was the language the women were taught called?” She says, her voice dripping in sweetness.

“Trick question, women weren’t allowed to learn a language or even go to school. But cuneiform was the language taught to the men for business purposes.” I say with the same voice. She doesn’t say right or wrong, she just kind of gives a raised eyebrow and continues with the class.

Shelby asked me to sit with her and her friends at lunch because she thought I needed dome cheering up. “Hey,” Josh says unhappily sitting down in front of me.

“Can’t ignore me forever,” He says.  “I kinda can, you’ll go away sometime.” I think.

“I’m not going away until you tell me what happened yesterday.” By this time the group had gone silent.

“Tell me!” Josh yells. Now the most part of the lunchroom was looking at us. I calmly get up, throw my lunch away and walk out of the huge cafeteria with tears in my eyes, thoroughly embarrassed. He follows me out.

“You can’t run forever!” Josh yells echoing the empty halls.

“Fine, Josh! Want to know why I can’t go to a hospital?” I say loudly, my voice shaking. I walk to the library and I find the computers. I go to Google and type in Emily Framely, my real name.
