When the lights fade out

I knew that a promise wouldn't make them stay, so that's why I told them that if they don't, I'll make sure that they go on stage in just their briefs. Needless to say, it totally worked.
River finds herself signed up for being the temporary assistant stylist for The Vamps. She doesn't want to do it because she thinks that all the practice she needs is inside her high school classroom. Will four boys be able to change her mind, or will they just make her never want to see them again?

5. Taking turns

After putting together Tristan's outfit, I send him out to get Connor. A few minutes later he pops in, his hair all wild and everywhere. As he steps onto the block, I have him change his jeans and let him pick out of three different shirts.

"I like this one, hate these two" He hands me two of the three shirts and I hang them back up. The one he chose is a light blue one with a neon green pocket on the front over top of his grey skinnies.

"Looks good" I lie, studying his choice of shirt. He smiles in response.

"You hate it, don't you?" He asks, noticing my high pitched tone. I always go higher when I'm lying.

"No, I don't hate it. I just think we could get something better" I sort through some shirts while he makes faces at himself in the mirror. "So I noticed on your guys's videos that Brad always introduces you. Why don't you take turns?"

"I dunno really, he's the lead singer and everything. That's why he gets the most camera time. Management makes it like that. Guess they think he's the best looking" He shrugs and gives me a 'what can you do' face.

"Well have you tried asking management if you could take turns doing the intro?" I ask him, standing back.

"Nope. No one's really said anything about it, but it would be nice. To make it seem like Brads not the only one in the band" He looks down at his shoes, then back up at me giving me a small smile. James walks in eating a jammy dodger and asks what we're talking about as crumbs fall out of his mouth.

"How Brad does all the intros" Connor says, and James just plunks down on the couch raising his eye brows.

"Oh. That" He says and finishes off his cookie.

"I thought you said you never really talked about it..." I turn to Connor in question.

"Well not to management. But James and Tris and I have" He clarifies.

"And we all came to the agreement that it would be nice to take turns" James says and Tristan jumps over the back of the couch like earlier and takes a cookie out of the package he has in his hands.

"Whatcha guys talking about?" He says with his mouth full. James leans over and takes a cookie.

"Brad's intros" He tells Tristan.

"What about them?"  Tristan asks, eating another cookie.

"How we all think it would be nice to take turns" James says in a quiet tone.

"Oh. Yeah. I don't really care that much, honestly" Tris leans back and stretches his arms above his head. Brad walks into the room, making it seem awkward that we were just talking about him.

"Anyway, I think we're all done here. Everyone likes what they have?" I ask all of them, packing up my things and shouldering my bag. There's a chorus of 'yeses' and nods that come from the boys.

"Alright, well I'll see you once more tomorrow before the show then" I take out my phone and text Celeste to come and pick me up. I remember how she wanted their autographs so I take out a pen and some paper.

"Would you guys mind signing this for my friend? She's a huge fan" I hold out the paper and Connor takes it first, scribbling down his name. He passes it to Brad, then to James, and finally Tristan hands it back to me with a smile.

"Want us to walk you out?" He asks, and the rest of the boys stand up.

"Oh you don't need too. Only if you want" I shrug and head towards the door, the boys following behind. We walk down the hall to the front doors where Ida is standing. She looks up when she hears us approach.

"How'd it go?" She asks all of us.

"Good, I think" I look over my shoulder at the boys who smile and nod.

My phone goes off and I look at the text from Celeste telling me that she's waiting outside. She was so happy to skip school to drive me around today. I give the big doors a tug and they open, letting a burst of cool air hit my face. Celeste is leaning up against her car, and I can see the terrible parallel parking job she did. I make a mental note to tell her about it later when she looks up from her phone and her eyes light up when she sees whose behind me.

"This is my friend Celeste" I say, and they all say hi and introduce themselves.

"Hi. Mind if I get a picture?" She asks and hits the camera app on her phone. They all gather around her to take the picture, and I notice how Brads hand rests on her waist. When she takes a few pictures she thanks them and her and Brad start talking. By the way she moves her hair out of her face, and how he's giving her his signature smile, I can tell they're flirting. All of a sudden they swap phones and she comes bouncing over to me with a huge grin on her face.

"See you guys tomorrow" I wave at the boys and get into the passengers seat. As soon as we're out of sight, she lets out a scream and bangs on the steering wheel causing us to swerve off the road slightly.

"So he gave you his number then, ya?" I ask, already knowing the answer. My smile matching her smile.
