My Step Brother

"Our parents...they don't have to know. We can be a secret." Louis said, coming closer and closer to me and moved back until I reached the wall. Louis was right in front of me; his hand resting right next to my head.
"But- what if they, you know, find out?" I asked, my voice shaking due to how close Louis was.
"They won't. It'll just be our little secret" Louis said, his face inching towards mine.
"Works for me" I said, grabbing his head and pulling his head in to kiss him.

36. Chapter 36

"Hello" A voice that I never wanted to hear said into the phone.

"What the fuck are you doing there? Why are you with Amber? Where are you? Where is Amber? How is she?" I burst out a bunch of questions I was dying to ask.

I heard a deep chuckle coming from the other side of the line.

"She's with me. So don't worry, she's safe with me." I could sense the smirk in his voice. That bastard is lucky that we're talking over the phone rather than in person/

"Just- let me talk to her" I said, trying to control my temper. The last thing I needed was for me to lose my temper, making him hang up on me.

"And why would I want to do that? Besides, I doubt she's want to talk to her EX-boyfriend." He said, emphasising the 'ex' part. This dude is getting on my fucking nerves.

"I don't care what I am to her. I just need to talk to her. 5 minutes." I said. I hated the fact that I sounded so desperate. I can just imagine him smirking, that stupid smirk of his, in amusement.

"Fine. 5 minutes only." He sighed. I heard him call for Amber in the background, immediately followed by footsteps.

"Hello?" Amber's voice spilled out. My body warmed up in a fuzzy feeling. I hadn't heard her voice in 3 days and now that I have... I couldn't help but smile.

"Amber" I whispered.

"Louis?" She said, surprised.

"We need to talk. Please, Amber. After that, it's up to you if you want to walk away or stay. Just-please." I said, closing my eyes in desperation.

"Sure, L-Louis. U-Uh, where do y-you want to met u-up?" She said, stuttering. Is she scared of me? Because I had beaten Jake badly. She should know that I would never lay a finger on her in that way. I'd never hurt her.

"Just come to my hotel." I said, stopping myself from telling her how much I love her and that I'd never hurt her. Baby steps, Louis. Baby steps.

"I'll come over now" She said, hanging up the phone. I took the phone away from my ear and stared at her profile picture.

"Uh, Jake. I need to go-"

"Will you come back?" He interrupted.

"I'm not sure... you know that I'm only staying her temporarily right?" I said, frowning. Ever since my break-up with Louis, Jake's been acting more... I don't know... overprotective? I'm probably just imaging things.

"Yeah, yeah. I know. Have fun I guess. Call me if you need help" He said, sitting back down on the couch. I had stayed at his house for a couple of days. I was actually planning to stay with Julia but he insisted.

I walked out the door and down the street to Louis' hotel. There's only two things that could happen. Either we'd end up shouting or we'd make up. I really want Louis back but he's not the same Louis as I met before. Before when I met him, he seemed so much nicer and cuter. He wouldn't hurt a fly. I get that he's looking out for me and everything but there's a limit. He's changed so much. I just want the old Lou back.

Before I knew it, my feet guided me to the front door of Louis' bedroom. Well, here goes nothing. I knocked on the door. It was opened by a very tired looking Louis. I took in his appearance in shock. He had bags under his eyes and a tear stained face. It took me all my willpower not to hug and kiss him right there and then.

"Come in" He said, pulling my hand so that we were inside his room. I saw his promise ring still on his finger. Mine was on too. I didn't have the heart to take it out. Louis noticed my stare and followed it. He saw the promise ring on my finger and smiled. It quickly disappeared once he began to speak.

"Amber, are you scared of me?" He said, inching closer.

"N-no" I said, moving back slightly. Louis' eyes filled with hurt when  he noticed my actions. He sighed deeply as he shook his head slightly.

"Amber, you don'y understand. I love you so much. You have no idea. These past three days have been nothing but a nightmare to me. I can't eat, drink, sleep, think, do anything without you. I know you have every reason to be angry with me. I took it too far with Jake. But he did provoke me but that's beside the point. I don't want you to be scared of me. I'll never hurt you, Amber." He reached his hand up to stroke my cheek, heating it up.

"You're too perfect. You're too good for me. You deserve someone better. Much better. But they will never love you as much as I do to you. And I love you too much to let you go."

My eyes widened at his speech. I honestly didn't expect this. My heart ached at the fact that he thought he wasn't goof for me. If anything, it should be the other way round.

"You've changed Louis" I said, before my mind could comprehend what my mouth was saying.

"What do you mean?" He said, his eyebrows furrowing in confusion.

"The day when I met you; you were so different to how you are now. You wouldn't even hurt a fly. But now, you're just going around the punching people. I'm not saying that you didn't have a good reason, I'm sure you did. It's just that, well there's limits I guess." I said, avoiding eye contact.

"Amber..." His voice trailed off.

"Do you hate me?" He continued. My eyes shot up to his.

"No! I could never hate you even if I wanted to. I love you Louis." I said.

"Say it again" He said, he was really close to me. His breath was fanning my skin.

"Say what?" I smiled a little, teasing him a bit.

"Say that you love me. I love it when those words come out of your mouth" He said, closing his eyes.

"I love you Louis. You're the only one for me. No one could ever replace you" I said, inching closer. Just as I was about to kiss him, Louis opened his eyes to see our position. He quickly moved away, leaving a sense of coldness.

"No. Amber, we need to sort out our problems before going anywhere." He said, scratching the back of his head. I smiled internally at how cute he was being.

"I just- I don't know what's got into me. I just feel... that I need to protect you. I don't know what I'd do if someone ever hurt you..." He said, sitting down on the sofa with his head in his hands. I walked next to him and sat down.  I lifted his hands out of his head and took them in mine.

"I know, Lou. I love it when you care for me. I feel so safe with you. But nothing's going to happen when I'm with you. I trust you with my life." I said. Louis' grin took over his previously glum expression.

"Really?" He said, like a little boy.

Louis suddenly looked down again. "So-uh- does this make you my -uh- girlfriend again?" He asked nervously. I wrapped my arms around his neck and sat down on his lap.

"Course" I said, snuggling into his neck. Louis started kissing my neck and slowly trailed up his way to my lips. I missed his lips on mine. It filled a hole in my heart. He grabbed my waist, pulling me closer into him. It started to get heated when my phone began to ring.

Louis pulled away and stared at the Caller ID. He stole my phone from my hands and answered it.

"Jake, I suggest you bake away from us before things start to get messy-" Louis said, gritting his teeth. I shot him a glare. His eyes softened when he saw my face.

"I've got to go. Bye" He managed to say calmly while hanging up.

"Please don't lose his temper on Jake. He hasn't done anything to you. But if it makes you feel better, I'll try and avoid him." I said, snuggling into Louis' neck. He smelled so good.

"I love you Amber"

"I love you too Lou" I replied.

"Hey! That rhymed! Too and Lou" I said. I felt Louis' chest shake, indicating that he was chuckling.

"Now this time, YOU ruined the moment" He laughed.

"Someone had to say it"

"What time is it?" Louis asked, looking back at the clock.

"Around 9 according to my phone. Let's just go to sleep" I said, getting up. Well tried to anyway before Louis pulled me back down onto his lap again.

"Please. Let me do the honours." He said, carrying me bridal style to the bed. He gently laid me down and pulled the covers over me before climbing onto the other side. He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me closer to him.

"Amber, never forget that I will never hurt you" He mumbled, half-asleep.

"I know Louis. I know." I said before drifting into the world of blackness otherwise known as sleep.

I know. It was kind of late updating.

But what do you think of it? And I promise the other 2 charcters will come along in the play. Just need to find the right moment.

Also, I WILL be updating during Christmas :) It's not as if I'm doing anything else anyway except watching a bunch of movies on telly.
