High School Romance.

Ariel, an image of a red-headed mermaid poped into your head, didn't it? Well, that's kind of me. A fiery red head and look alike to Molly Quinn. I just started high school (oh joy.) and I'm so not used to it. What happened to small schools? Oh well, but, I can't really complain. And all of my classes are fairly easy, and every single one of them I share with the most random guy, football jersey number 13. That's what I call him, thirteen. And I think I like him... like, LIKE LIKE him... and I'm pretty sure he feels the same way about me...

I smiled and looked at my desk. A warmth spread over me, I don't know what he did that made me do this, but I kind of liked it. I looked back up at him to see his nervous little smirk.

"Okay." I said smiling.

Ryan smiled at me.

"Alright," I looked up and saw the teacher walk in, "class, my name in Mrs. Walker," she wrote her name with a purple marker on the white board behind her, "and this is my English class."

[ one LONG school day later ]

The day passed by slowly. Too slow for me to want to be happy about it finally being over. Ryan and I both found out we both have each class together, so, YESSS!!!

But, now I was changing in the locker rooms into my tennis clothes then walked over to the tennis courts twirling my raquet in my hand. I picked up a tennis ball of the ground and bounced it on my raquet (I was spinning around in circles trying to keep it on the raquet), waiting for the coach when I heard someone call my name.

I bounced the ball into the air and caught it then looked to my left, Ryan was waving at me walking over.

"Hey thirteen." I said smilng.

"Hey babe," he sais with a smile. He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and kissed my forehead. "You have tennis today?"

"Yep, every day." I said. I got out of his embrace and took a step away, then hit the ball and sent it soaring over the fence and back into the tennis courts.

Ryan gave a low whistle. I turned back around to face him and smiled.

"Can you teach me how to play?" He asked.

"Sure," I said. I looked around and found another stray ball, I picked it up and tossed it to him, he caught it and smiled.

I showed him to ho hit a forehand, he caught on easily and was able to send the ball over the fence too. I laughed and we started talking.

Finally Ryan looked over his shoulder to the football feild and then back to the tennis court.

"Hey," he said with a smile, "I'll be able to watch you practice."

"Same here." I said with a smile.

"YO! Ryan!"

We both turned and saw some other football guys watching us, Ryan waved to them and they went over to the football field.

He turned back to me and sighed. "I have to go practice."

"Okay, what time do you stop?"

"Four thirty."

"Perfect, that's when I get out."

He smiled. "I'll walk you home then."

"Thanks." I said.

Ryan turned and went off to practice, and I went to play by myself until the coach came. I picked up one of the balls Ryan and I hit over. I tossed it into the air and caught it in my hand. I smiled, threw it up again, and served it over the net.

[ time: 4:31 p.m. ]

I thanked the coach again and went over to the lokcer rooms, I changed back into what I was wearing earlier and sighed grimincing at the pangs of soreness in my right arm and both legs. Anyone who said tennis wasn't a work out, was so wrong.

I hefted my backpack onto my shoulder and popped my earbuds back into my ears. I played some of my dad's favorite music: Toby Keith, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash.

I softly sang 'Ring Of Fire' to myself as I walked to the gate.

I turned around, Ryan was waving at me. He said goodbye to his friends then came over to me.

Oh no! I forgot he was going to walk me home! How do I forget that?! I asked myself. We both smiled at the same time and started walking south towards my house.

"So, where'd you move from again?" Ryan asked me.

"Texas pan handle."  I said smiling.

He chuckled, then grabbed my free hand in his and we kept walking.

"What about you?" I asked. I smiled as a leaf slowly spun in a circle as it made its way to the concretee flooring. A car zoomed past us and I let my eyes follow it.

"Yeah, I really miss my old friends."

"Same here."

We walked in a comfortable silence after that. I sighed as we neared my house, the day was almost over, and there was still over a hundred days of school to suffer through.

"Oh, I never got your number." Ryan said.

"Oh, okay, it's 552-8338."  I said. I pulled out a purple guitar shaped stickey note and wrote it down for him. "Text me and I'll get your number." I added.

"Kay." He said. His eyes were fixed on the piece of paper in front of him, he looked up at me and smiled.

"I'll see you tomorrow then?" I asked.

"Sure, aisle thirteen?"

"Okay, thirteen."

We both smiled. Ryan gave me a quick kiss on my cheek before he went home, I watched him walk away. A dumb smile on my face. I put a hand to my cheek and smiled even bigger, I waitied until he was halfway into being a shadow until I started to go into my house. I stopped at the door and looked out to the direction he had left, he was watching me, a smile playing at his lips.

I giggled and waved at him, he waved back and I went inside.
