Luna *on hold*

Hazel is a 16 year old girl from New York.
"There are so many bonuses that come with living in New York, for example; shopping, great food places, decent cinemas and leisure centers, hot boys. The list is endless, granted there are a few minuses that come with living in New York too, for example; my mother is a workaholic and my recent dinner habits have all been microwavable, there is little to no large outdoor spaces or forests and absolutely no capacity for people like me. And by that I mean, werewolves. "
The wolf inside Hazel becomes restless and lands her on a plane straight to live with her father in Silverton, Population 1000.

4. Chapter three

Chapter 3

Although it was only a few minutes past seven, everything outside seemed to be a lot darker than it should have been. The run home was exhilarating, I’d never felt so weightless and free. I was also surprised to find that I did in fact remember the way back. As I was running it was like my wolf was directing me.

Once we’d arrived at my house I realised that I didn’t know how to shift back nor what Quinn and Lena were going to wear since they didn’t bring any stuff back with them.

Guys I said.

I don’t know how to shift back? And won’t we all be naked?

It’s the same as before, just visualise turning back into your human form. Quinn said as she licked her front left paw.

Lena nudge my ribs with her nuzzle. Yeah, when you shift back, you’ll be naked, but you’ll be by yourself anyway, we’re going back to get our clothes.

Oh Okay, where do you two live?

Just around the corner, you probably passed our houses on your way from the airport. We had to move into the new houses because of the fucking Blanc pack taking over the land our old houses were on. Lena growled

Yeah, I hate the Blanc pack. Quinn showed her support by licking Lena’s ear.

Looking up at the now full moon, I don’t really know much about this whole thing. I Said, Maybe we should talk about all this later?

Quinn and Lena nodded and left me to shift back in private.

Shifting back into my human form was much simpler than I thought it was going to be, although I did feel incredibly embarrassed about running up to my bedroom naked. I know the house was empty but I don’t feel like it’s my home properly yet.

After running along trail paths and through the woods as I wolf, I thought I’d better shower before the party

I ran the shower and turned up the temperature so high the room filled with a dense steam very quickly. There was enough steam to not be able to see much further in front of you, but I managed to hop into the shower without falling over.

As I scrubbed my skin free from muddy leaves and twigs, my hand traced over my Swallow tattoo and I began to think about home.

I know me and Nick we never officially together and he was a few years older than me but I kind of miss him. Although he was really sweet when we spent time together, and when he tattooed the swallow, he was also kind of a twat. He did cheat on me with my alleged best friend at the time which made me forget about missing him and made me slightly angry instead. My eyes shone a slightly more intense hazel as I kicked over the shampoo bottle. I sighed deeply as I picked the bottle up and placed it back on the edge of the bath.

It felt good to be clean again I thought as I sifted through my wardrobe for the second time today.

“No, no, no, no, no.” I huffed.

Why am I annoyed that I don’t own anything sluttish? I wondered.

Eventually Quinn and Lena arrived and I still hadn’t found anything so I had to answer the door in my dressing gown.

It was a pink and grey spotty robe and I looked quite ridiculous in it.

“Nice robe.” Lena smirked.

“It is nice, isn’t it?” Quinn cheerfully beamed as she stroked the material. She seemed to genuinely love the dressing gown which confused both me and Lena.

I opened the door wider to let them inside.

Lena shuffled in first carrying a Louis Vuitton travel bag on her arm and a smaller version in the other hand containing a large variety of makeup.

Just after her, Quinn bounded in, her luggage was a lot smaller and she only had one bag but it was from Burberry. I was impressed. Who knew fashionable retailers shipped to such small towns? I thought.

I was expecting Lena to waltz in and make herself right at home, but she didn’t. She stood respectfully just aside of the front door and waited for me to give instructions on where to go.

“You know, you could just go straight up to my room, I don’t mind. It’s not like you don’t know where it is.” I smiled.

“Yeah, it’s just, this is the Alphas house. We treat him and his home with high respect.” Lena said suddenly serious.

“Well,” I said, “As long as you’re with me, feel free to treat it like your own home.” I was hoping this evening would win me some points with the girls so that if I accidentally, or on purpose, piss off Nina, they’ll back me up.

I don’t know why we don’t get on because Quinn is really fun. I suppose it’s not fair for me to say they’d be exactly the same just because they’re twins.

Quinn beamed at me for the second time in the space for two minutes and skipped towards the stairway. Lena followed slowly, still aware she was in the Alphas home, I suppose.

Lena was looking through my closet trying to find me something to wear since she’d already decided what she wanted to dress up in. Quinn was sat on my bed holding up each garment and inspecting it.

“Hmm, too causal.” She’d mumble or “Does not accentuate my curves enough.” And chew her lip whilst she rummaged through the rest of the contents of her bag.

Lena was struggling to find something for me. “All of your clothes are oh so stylish.” She said whilst stroking a peachy coloured lace skirt and then sighed, “But you don’t own anything you’d wear to a decent party.” Lena closed my wardrobe and emptied her larger Louis Vuitton bag onto my bedroom floor. She picked up her red bodycon dress and threw it onto my bed. “Pick something you like from here.” She instructed me. I bent down over the pile of clothes and sifted through.

I little black dress caught my eye. I picked it up and held it in Quinn and Lena’s direction, looking for approval. They both grinned at me.

“Go try it on!” Quinn said excitedly.

I nodded and headed for the bathroom.

“I’ve got the perfect pair of black heels to go with this.” I said as I strutted from the bathroom.

“Oh. My. Gosh.” Lena and Quinn gasped in unison.

I couldn’t help but grin.

Lena grabbed her red dress and dashed to the bathroom too, we were all getting excited now. Quinn was still having trouble trying to choose which dress to go for.

“This royal blue dress,” she said holding up a mid length tight dress that would be sure to make her curves look amazing, “Or, this green one.” She said again holding up the dark green dress, it was a short, tight piece with a delicate black lace traced over the green material. “Try the green one on.” I said.

She looked so amazing. I knew the green was a good choice because it’d match her eyes.

“You look sexy!” I laughed.

Lena strolled back into the room, she looked equally as good.

“Wow,” I gasped, “I think you two will most definitely be the hottest girls there!”

Lena flashed a cheeky smile and said, “We always are.”

Quinn finished off curling her hair whilst Lena adding the finishing touches to my makeup.

“Thanks guys,” I smiled, “if it wasn’t for you, I’d be sat on the sofa, stuffing my face with fattening foods and watching crappy TV.” Not that I don’t mind one of those nights every now and again but that’s not going to make me any new friends.

Lena and Quinn “awed” for a moment and then Lena said “Stop being such a sap, it’s time to PARTY!”

I’d never been to this part of Silverton before, which surprised me because Silverton is pretty small. Lena and Quinn assured me that the party would be epic and that I’d make more friends by the end of the night- or morning, depending on how epic the party was.

I could hear the music pounding from ‘Jack Rodgers’ house. It was only half eight and already there was a few drunken teens sprawled over the lawn. I had to tiptoe over a girl blocking the front door.

Lena stopped and took a few pictures of the passed put drunks and laughed.

The girls went in first; I paused behind them to move the blonde girl blocking the door, onto the grass and placed her on her side just in case she was going to puke. I stood back up and straightened out my black dress. A boy was looking at me from the front left window. He smiled at me. I looked down at my feet embarrassed, after a couple of seconds I decided to glance back at his shadowed face but when I lifted my eyes in his direction, he was gone. I shook my head, puzzled.

Quinn poked her head around the front door “Are you coming in or what?” she asked.

“Uh,” I stuttered “Yeah, yeah I am.”

I hurried inside the house, trying as best as I could to stay close to Quinn so I wouldn’t become lost. We weaved in and out of the bouncing bodies of people. The house was damp with alcohol and sweat.

Lena came towards us, awkwardly carrying three drinks, she handed two to me and Quinn. I sniffed the contents of the Dixie cup suspiciously - Beer. I wasn’t a beer drinker but I downed the drink quickly and crumpled the plastic cup onto the floor. Quinn and Lena stood back in bewilderment. They both glanced at each other and then back to their cups, “Okay.” They said and followed suit.

We danced our way deep into the house, Quinn and Lena exchanged nods and smiles to the girls and guys surrounding us. I didn’t know anyone but the more I drank the friendlier and less nervous I became. Suddenly I was dancing with a group of blonde girls who all looked exactly the same to me but judging by how many beers I’d had so far, they could have all been red heads. Because I’m a werewolf, the affects of being drunk don’t last long, so if you want to keep the buzz going you’ve got to be chain drinking.

I was in the middle of being momentarily completely drunk for the fourth time that night, when I tripped over a small coffee table and cut my hand open.

A small pool of purple werewolf blood swelled up in the palm of my hand. Then the trade mark werewolf healing trait kicked in, healing my hand and removing my tipsiness, leaving a patch of now dry purple liquid and a little pick fleshy scar on my palm that would probably be gone by the time I got home. I clambered up off of the floor and barged my way into the kitchen. It was empty of people in here; I closed the door to block out the noise of the party. Finally I could breathe properly. I fumbled with the cold tap and tried to wash away all evidence of my non mundane life.

Now breathing in and out slowly, I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder. I jumped to the side, concealing my hand.

“Let me see.”

My eyes followed the sound of his voice until our eyes met. I blinked and looked away, cheeks burning. This boy was beautiful. He had short, messy, dirty blonde hair with a dark brown undertone and green eyes. He was much taller than me, 6ft something maybe. His cheek bones were incredibly chiselled, he had a tiny bit of stubble and he smelt amazing. College Guy, I thought. He was wearing jeans that I could only imagine made his bum look great and a fitted, plain black t-shirt that gave away too much of his muscled physique. I was quite sure I’d never seen him before, but he just seemed slightly familiar.

“Your hand.” He said in a calming but, Oh so sexy voice. I looked at my palm and back at him again. I just stood still, blinking. The boy advanced forward and tentatively took my wounded hand, his touch made my wolf howl with electricity, I gasped. He examined it quickly before browsing through Jack Rodgers cupboards for a bandage.

“Here.” He said whilst he wrapped my hand.

“Um, it’s fine.” I said quietly, trying to stop him from un necessarily bandaging my palm.

“It is now.” He smiled as he gave me back my hand which was now securely wrapped.

“Thanks, I guess.” I mumbled. I looked back down at my feet again and chewed my bottom lip. I could feel his shiny green eyes on me, making my cheeks glow even redder.

I looked up and he smiled, “What?” I asked defensively.

“Nothing,” he said softly, “It’s just, you’re beautiful.”

My eyes widened and my lips parted slightly.  “Oh.” Was all I could manage to say. Although I was stricken by his good looks and charm, I was suspicious. I’m the new girl, easy target for nasty tricks I thought.

He was still pretty close to me and I could only faintly smell the beer on his breath and a slightly stronger sent of his cologne. I held my own breath, not wanting to smell like stale alcohol too.

Finally, he said something.

“You wanna go dance?”

I looked back through the partially opened door into the very crowded lounge.

“Um, it looks pretty crowded in there.” I said. I wanted to dance with him for sure but I was nervous and still weary.

The guy glanced through the door too, “Hmm.”

I changed the position I was standing in so that more of my weight was shifted onto my left side. His eyes watching me and continued his gaze until he reached the kitchen window which was also on the left hand side of me. He smiled, “Come on.” The handsome stranger took my hand and led me out into the empty back yard. My heart was thundering as a million and one thoughts crossed my mind.

What if he’s a murderer? Or a rapist or he wants to kidnap me?

My hand was still in his, I was about to yank it free and run when he said, “May I have this dance?”

“What?” I said again, confused.

He smirked at me and looked up at the moon and the billions of glittering stars. “You know, its very un lady like to say ‘what’, girls should say pardon.”

I glared at him, who the hell does this guy think he is? I thought.

“You know,” I said in a mocking tone, “It’s a bit pig headed to assume that i wanted to dance with you. How do you know that ‘it looks pretty crowded in there’  wasn’t just me politely telling you to get lost?”

The guy stepped closer to me and whispered into my ear, “Because, I can sense they way I make you feel. I make you nervous, plus you think I’m attractive.” He stepped back away from me again but he was still holding my hand, not tightly though, it was loose enough for me to pull away if I wanted to, but close enough for me to feel his blood pulsing through his veins. The thing is, I didn’t want to let go of his hand. The buzzing I got from his touch was addictive.

“Oh please,” I said annoyed, “I’m new, everything makes me nervous.”

“Just one dance.” He asked

I sighed and looked into his eyes. I want to trust him, I do, but being the new girl on the block was making to wary of everything. I did not intend to be the star act of some bet or prank.

I was taking too long to answer.

“We don’t have to dance, we could just talk, if you like?” he added, noting my wariness.

He let go of my hand and led on the ground, he patted the hand he’d been using to keep me here with him, on the ground, gesturing for me to join him. I bit my lip.

Ah screw it. I thought and led down next to him.

We led in silence for a while, our arms not quite touching, but I could still feel the sparks eager to be connected. He didn’t look at me, just kept his head and eyes in the direction of the night sky.

I turned my head so that I was looking at the side of his head, couldn’t quite see all of his features because his face was shadowed form the darkness.

Wait a minute. That’s why I recognised him!

“It was you in the window earlier, wasn’t it?” I asked.

He laughed, “Yeah that was nice, what you did for that girl.”

“I just didn’t want her to get stood on or choke or something.” I said earnestly.

We led in silence for a little longer.

“I like to be outdoors, not in a confined space, that’s why I was in the kitchen; I wasn’t following you or anything, just trying to get away.” He said sincerely.

“Okay.” Was all I said.

The boy sighed, “Well, I did see you go in there as I was heading in that direction anyway and I just can’t keep my eyes off of you. I know I’m starring at the sky right now, it’s pretty but believe me it’s taking every bit of strength I have to not look at you.”  His head started to turn towards me but he stopped and shook it quickly and went back to watching the stars. I stayed silent. “I’m not looking at you because I know it makes you uncomfortable.” He muttered.

I took a deep breath. “I like the outdoors too.” I said, so quietly, it was almost a whisper.  The wolf inside me was howling, making me want to impulsively kiss this mysterious, random stranger.

He rolled over so that his muscled arms were holding him up either side of my head. i let out a tiny gasp. His face tilted down towards mine, “I really like you.” He whispered into the night’s breeze. I brought myself up so I was no longer led on the ground, to meet his face. Our lips were only brushing slightly against each other, we both leaned in- “HAZEL!?” Lena called.

The boy sighed and helped me up. I let go of his hand, “Uh, I have to go.” I stuttered as I ran back to Lena.

When we were back inside and out of ears reach she gasped, “WHO,” she said, emphasizing on the who, “Was that?”

I chewed my lip, “I don’t know. I was hoping you did.” I know what it looked like but I am not a slut and I didn’t want Lena to think I was.

“Hazel! Don’t say you were drunk because you know that is not a decent excuse.”

I needed to some how justify what I did, but to be honest, even I’m not too sure why I almost kissed a complete stranger. I couldn’t think of anything plausible, so I just keep looking at my feet as we walked.
