26. Desperate

Justin’s POV

I'm desperate.

Desperate for love.

Desperate for drugs.

Desperate to feel that fullness I once felt.

I ran a hand through my hair as I pulled the package from the inside pocket of my jacket. I saw her in the distance, looking down at the ground. When I coughed, she looked up, a smirk on her face.

‘You have it?’ she asked me, running her hand up my arm.

‘I have it.’ I sighed, giving it to her and she pulled the wad of cash from her pocket.

‘Here, one grand.’ She said, taking the large package and opening the top.

‘There’s 10 packets in there, like you requested.’ I said, turning away from her and heading back into my car.

When I hopped in, I unrolled the cash and counted it. One grand, good.

I guess she didn’t want to cause any trouble.

I shook my head before backing out of the parking lot and driving towards the drug house. It’s my temporal house for the moment. It’s unsafe, as anyone can just walk in at any moment as the door is always left unlocked.

But there’s a loft, in which I sleep in. my brother Chris let me sleep in there for as long as I wanted, as he and his friends owned the house.

I parked on the curb outside and walked inside. I walked up the stairs towards the loft. I opened the door and walked in, locking it behind me.

I lay on the bed and turned over to open my bed-side table drawer. I put the cash in there and took out a pack of cigarettes.

I lit one and took a drag, before propping it on my bottom lip and looking up at the ceiling. I can’t be bothered to go to the chemist to get some more syringes.

I bought some yesterday, and they ran out in half an hour. Then I took some from that cupboard in the kitchen when Chris wasn’t looking a had them this morning.

It was about 2 in the afternoon and I think it’s the 14th of November.

I took the cigarette out of my mouth and put it out by grinding the edge on the bedside table top. I sat up and got up, bored out of my mind.

I took my phone out of my skinny jean pocket and looked through my contacts. I saw Jessica’s name and my breathing hitched.

I tapped on her number and held the phone to my ear. After four rings, she answered.

‘Justin, I really don’t want to talk to you.’ Her voice came through the speaker dull and raspy, like she hadn’t had enough sleep.

‘Look, I know you don’t want to talk to me, but I just…’

‘You just what Justin?’

‘I really need you…’ I mumbled, before hanging up.

I ran a hand through my hair before sighing. A tear trickled down my cheek before I fell back on the bed.

Jessica’s POV

I shook my head and put my phone down.

‘Argh sweetie! A lady needs help zipping up her dress in change room 5.’ Matilda told me, as I inaudibly groaned.

‘Can’t that damn lady zip up her own dress?’ I mumbled as I approached her stall.

‘Ah excuse me ma’am, im here to zip up your dress.’ I shouted, knocking on the stall door.

‘Oh yes.’ She said, sounding older then I expected.

When she unlocked the door, I saw the rather old lady trying on a yellow floral sundress.

‘Just here dear.’ She said, letting go of the zip as I went to zip up her dress. When I did, I quickly went out of the stall, complementing the lady after she asked how she looked in the dress.

‘Ah Jessica dear!’ I heard Matilda shout out to me.

‘Yes?’ I asked, coming out of the change rooms.

‘This young man is here to see you.’

And there, was Justin, standing sadly with his hands tucked into his pockets.
