2. Drop and Stare

I quickly jumped up hearing the bang of something outside of my room. I slipped my tiny feet into my pink slippers and scattered to my new window. You wouldn't believe how much having a window means to a girl.

Of course the old apartment had one, but It framed a dark alley that sheltered a couple hobos. But back to what I was doing. I peered out of the window at the breath taking view of thin Trees between this house and the one that was an estimate of 2 yards away. Maybe I was an inch off but, I doubt it. Your looking at captain and president of the Academic Decathlon and Math and Science Department. There is no wrong answer that withers out of this month.

I looked into the window directly across from mine that had a crack slit from the corner to the top. My eyes wandered down to the shirtless body that was moving down a plastic ladder that came out of the window and led to the ground.

I rubbed my eyes rapidly to reassure myself. I mean seriously? Who the fudge climbs out of a window a 7 a.m. shirtless when the dew temp. is so low and it's at least 20 degrees Celsius outside.

The boy, or Man, or dude, or let's just say person of the opposite gender lowered himself close to the ground to the outside of the second floor then jumped down landing onto his feet.

I continued to stare as his back toned inwards. Slowly I reached my hands over to my hand against my lamp for support until the worst thing ever could have happened.

It tumbled over and shirtless boy's eyes caught with mine...

I stood open mouthed with a little dribble of drool against my lip. My bottom lip began to quiver as I saw how priceless his Big hazel eyes were. I couldn't move. It was like my mind was telling my legs to go but they wouldn't budge.

I finally blinked glancing over to the lamp that was now on the floor and back down to the boy that was still looking up to my window.

I slowly rose my hand to scratch my head that was connected to my useless arms that felt as if they were made of Jell-o.

His facial expression stayed still frozen in a dark gaze. As an immediate... and stupid choice I broke out a smile feeling my braces against my top lip. Before he could frown.. or call me a nerd like most people he looked up as something hit inside of his house.

He rose his pointer finger up to his lips dashing his eyes over to me and back up to his window before running away from the distance of my window. A sigh of relief flowed over me as I quickly lifted the unbroken lap from the floor.

"Rachel.. I swear, If your not down stairs in 5 your ass is mine." Stacey screamed outside of my door.

I had to ride with her to school. I know your thinking. Why was a 19 year old still going to school and not spending her weeks at college or in bed. Well Stacey was still captain of the Cheer team so she went everyday to bitch to the newbies at the new school. Also she did go to college but she only had 2 or 3 classes a day.

After about 10 minutes of listening to Stacie scream while I was in the shower I slipped on my black skinnies. Usually i wouldn't get too dressed up for school. Sweat pants, bangy shorts, etc. were my forte but.. my mom convinced me that I needed to really make a good impression here. Considering Aunt Lynn and Stacie had this side of town in the palm of their hands.

I was a lot more lenient about the jeans but she also wanted me to wear a black and white tight, low cut shirt that complimented the boob's I didn't have. I even flat ironed my usually dark frizzy hair today.

"Don't talk to me, don't look at me, Don't tell anyone you know me, and please--" Stacie said pausing in mid-sentence.

"--Do NOT talk to any of my friends." For some reason it was like she thought I was some kind of brain dead blonde long lost cousin from Texas that liked to be loud and the center of attention.

For some reason, I preferred Alienating myself instead of highering other people's IQ percentage with my presence.

"Um, Hello!?" Stacie clicked her perfectly manicured cotton candy pink nails in front of my now completely dilated eyes to make herself once again. The center of attention.

"Uh, Yea, Yeah I here you." I grumbled threatening to open the door until she locked it.

"Mom left you Class schedule in the bag. Get some other looser to walk you to your classes." She barked opening her door stepping out.

I sat puzzled at how... how.. self centered she could be sometimes. She wasn't always like that. She was just like me. Well.. scratch that, she was nice.

She continued to walk to the opening of the school swaying her petite hips back and forth in her denim mini skirt. Numerous guys ogled at her in awe at how her legs seemed as if they went for miles then finally connecting with her black wedges.

I could never hate Stacie, but I envied how perfect she could be some times.

I finally worked up the nerve to step out of the car connecting my white flats with the hard pavement.

My hands moved down against my thighs as I begun to try and jack my jeans down a little but, serving the purpose, they didn't budge.

"Did she just get out of the car with Stacie?" I heard a couple people whisper as they stared at me like I was some kind of science project.

I was used to being the weird walking museum exhibit at my school, but these stares were different.

I sped up my paste looking down at the schedule that was laying inside of my now shaking hands.

"You must be Ms. Rachel. I am Doctor Briggs." A feminine voice full of power called behind me. Her voice filled the call and area of the perimeter around me making me quiver. Authority never stuck right with me considering my dad was the only one that enforced it.

Spinning around on my heels my eyes met with slender short lady.

"Yes, I am." I said feeling belittled by how even a short person was taller than me.

"Well, Aisha here--" She pointed to the curly hair girl standing with her arms crossed behind her. Her naturally curly hair almost reached against her honey nut colored skin. Her legs were stuffed into shorts that reached down 1/3 to her knee.

"Will be showing you to your classes." She nodded looking over to Aisha that rolled her eyes walking away.

I turned back to the girl with worry and a little hurt filling me. What if she was one of Stacie's friends? What if she tells Stacie I'm embarrassing her?

"Ms. Briggs gone get it one of dese' days. I swear she lookin' for it." Aisha mumbled in front of me clenching her fist.

"I think the proper term is..." I paused for a moment remember this was why I had no friends in the first place. "-- Never mind."

"Nah, continue new girl. There aint a thing you can say to make me more ticked off then I am now." She said stopping in her tracks then turning to look at me. Her eyes were a light shade a hazel and her nose perked up in a way that made her eyes look wider.

"Gimme your Scedge. Doctor B got me doin' this for ditching her Formal assembly." Her hand grabbed the paper out of my hand groaning as she spoke.

"Formal Assembly.?" I questioned. Of course I knew what a Formal Assembly was, but I needed to make small talk. That's what they did in my romance novels to make new friends right?

"Ya' know.. when the whole school goes to the gym so she can rant bout' changing crap." Her eyes wandered from me to the paper and back up again.

My mouth formed a complete "O" so she knew I was listening. "Speaking of which, we have one today except it isn't formal.. it's to celebrate the football team since it's almost the end of season." She went on fumbling up and down the paper groaning more.

I nodded carefully continuing to walk after her as we reached a classroom.

"I'll be here after Crator face here stops ha' lecturing. And then we headin' to lunch."

--

"Guys this is Rachel, Rachel this is the crew." Aisha said dropping her tray pulling her black hair back into a bun. My eyes trailed down to the group sitting at the table. I'd layed low during all of my previous classes making as little eye contact as possible.

"And she is here why?" An Asian girl with short black and blonde bobbed hair. I ducked my head down a little. Being publically humiliated was normal but I've never been this close with conversation in a group.

"Ms. B got me doin' charity because of Johnny's mini make out session Friday." She nudged the boy that wrapped his arm around her waist. His brown hair swooped back in a swift motion making his green eyes stand out against his light tanned skin.

"Not my fault Isha." He said through his crooked smirk pulling her into his lap.

"Oh come of May, We need a nerd to add to our minority." an extremely pretty blonde girl in a pink pleated skirt said as she rose from her table. She winked as she wrapped her hand onto my arm.

"I'll take you to get some of this yummy chili." She said flipping her hair glancing over to Aisha and Johnny.

"Nah, we all know that's an over statement." Another guy said walking past her. She tugged me through the short line of the lunch line. I could tell she was into herself because of the way she glided instead of walked. The way her blonde locks bounced full of exaggeration. Almost like Stacie's did.

"So um.. do you know Stacie?" I whispered so lightly I thought she wouldn't be able to hear me. But that was exactly what I was going for. But she stops directly in front of me almost making me walk right into her.

"Of course I know that back stabbing skank." She screeched turning around ignoring the bowl of chili the lunch lady sat in front of us.

"She slept with my boyfriend and then got me kicked out of the cheer leading team. That its the least of it! I was about to win homecoming queen last year until she rigged the baled. She said she was my best friend." She snapped

I knew Stacie could be a pain in the back side sometimes. but every now and then she took it too far to get what she wanted.

"She's my cousin." I managed to wince out. The girl rolled her eyes pushing over the bowl then walking away. This was the one time that i should've taken Stacie's advice.

I trudged out of the line watching the blonde girl walk back over to Aisha and the others with a fierce look on her face. I continued to walk holding out the hot bowl of chili almost making it to the table until a foot restricted inside of a black wedged heel came out in front of me making me fall. The hot chili tumbled over spilling into the crouch of someone sitting beside a table filled with Jocks and cheerleaders.

Following the scene an erupt of laughter filled the cafeteria but then turned to silence in a second. Oh god kill me now.
