11. day out & meeting people

It's weird isn't it. Someone who is your 'friend' can just snog you, and it isn't awkward after it? Me and Tom had got past that 'friend' stage anyway, we were more than friends, but we weren't in a relationship.. Yet anyway. After we had watched a few more films, I got changed back into the clothes I arrived in, slipping my pocket into my pocket, and Tom had got changed into some other clothes a bit more presentable to go out in.

'Come on then, if we're going!' Tom called as I sorted my hair out.

'Your hair looks perfect, now let's go!' He had to be the most impatient boy I have ever met.

'So impatient! Honestly' I smirked at him, walking past him back into his room to collect my bag, he slapped my bum on my way past him too. 'Cheek' I grinned at him, before we made our way downstairs and out the door as he led the way to the carnival funfair type thing, hand in hand. 'I could get used to this' I winked at him, referring to our entwined hands.

'So could I, but we'll leave it at this for now, yeah?' He smiled, squeezing my hand tighter. It hurt me a little, what he said, 'leave it at this', I wonder what he meant? Does he not like me or something? Does he not feel the same way about me, as the way I feel about him? After he said that, I felt a bit awkward holding his hand. As if he didn't want me to hold it. If I was just another girl to him, I would rather this whole 'thing' be over now. I always got my heart broken, I always got hurt. So I really wanted some answers, or leave before it was too late. But I didn't want to say anything, not tonight anyway. We walked in silence towards to fun fair, I hadn't said much after his little comment, our hands had unlocked too, so we were just walking next to each other.

'What's the matter babe? You haven't said much the whole way' Tom pointed out as we entered the fun fair, the noises of children laughing and playing filled the air, couples walking round hand in hand, I couldn't help but wish that was us.. Me and Tom.

'Nothing, I'm fine' I lied, forcing a smile to form on my lips.

'You sure?' He asked, he seemed to buy my lie, I nodded in response. Me and Tom went on a few classic fair ground rides together, I put on an act, pretending to be happy, but what Tom said hadn't stopped running through my mind. As we walked through the fairground, I could see two familiar faces walking towards us, I couldn't quite remember who it was. Then it hit me, Chris Mears and his girlfriend Sam Rogers. Chris and Sam were both divers for Team GB, as well as Tom. I had known Sam from school, but Chris went to college, and I didn't know Tom then, as he went to college too.

'Maddy!!' Sam called. 'Sam!! I haven't seen you in ages?' I called back to her while Tom greeted Chris, both of them engaging into conversation.

'This is Maddy then is it Tom?' Chris asked, throwing me a wink.

'Yep..' Tom kind of looked awkward. 'Maddy, this is Chris, Chris this is Maddy' Tom introduced us both.

'Pleasured to meet you Maddy!' Chris smiled at me.

'You too!' I smiled back.

'She your girlfriend yet Daley?' Chris asked as he turned towards Tom.

'Don't be silly' Tom laughed, I smiled at them both, before biting my lip. Ok now I was positive he didn't like me.

'I'm just going down there, I have a bit of a head ache' I excused myself, before walking down the hill and sat by the river, by a tree. I sat there a few minutes in silence, before a female voice interrupted my thoughts.

'You really like him, don't you?' The voice said, I turned around and it was Sam, I sighed, as she sat next to me.

'Course I do, can't say he feels the same way' I confessed.

'He does' Sam informed me.

'How do you know?' I asked her.

'He phoned Chris this morning, he told Chris he likes you!' I responded to my question.

'Really? He has a funny way of showing it then' I half laughed.

'What do you mean?' Sam asked, confused.

'You heard what he said when Chris asked if I was his girlfriend..' I told her. 'And when we were walking here before, hand in hand, everything seemed perfect, until I told him I could get used to that, and he told me 'just leave at this for now' if that doesn't prove he doesn't feel the same way, I don't know what does.'

'Maddy..' Sam began. 'I've known Tom for ages, and.. well.. commitment scares him. Like being in a relationship with someone where he has to dedicate his life to really terrifies him.' Sam told me.

'I can't be in a relationship with someone like that then' I told her, swallowing the lump in my throat. 'It was alright for him when he had his tongue down my throat earlier though wasn't it.'

'Tom doesn't show his feelings to many people.. And I can tell he trusts you.. It's just.. You need to understand him' Sam told me.

'I do, but I can't see someone like that.' I told her. 'Do me a favour? Tell Tom I've gone home' I said, standing up.

'You can't walk home at this time!' Sam told me, I checked my phone, it was 9 o'clock.

'My car's at Tom's, it's only down the road, I'll be fine' I told her. Before walking in the direction we entered in, before looking back up the hill to see Tom laughing away with Chris. I felt myself choke up and the tears fill my eyes, as one managed to escape looking over at him. What I've learnt is that, if it's too good to be true, it is too good to be true.
