Learning to Trust

*Sequel to Different From the Rest*
Kady is grown up now. She is now eighteen, a far cry from fourteen. There is no One Direction, if you asked your kids about them they'd be like "are you high again?" Kady's stutter is long gone, but the fears from it will never surrender. Being alone, forgotten, useless. Mainly she can't trust, anyone, not others around her, not herself. She makes a mistake that can't be fixed, and must go on with her life. Kady has to learn that you must leave the past behind you before you can move forward and not all mountains can be moved. It's a bowl of cherries, with a few-no many, nuts thrown in.

6. Where's Emme Going?

This is why I don't trust people, they turn on your back the second Twinkies come back on the shelves. Summer obviously wanted me to trust her so she could take Emme away from her real family. I take the drive out of the picture frame and I put it into my laptop which is on my lap. I save all the photos to my U drive  in case we have to get the police involved in this. When I'm looking through the photos again, the one with Emme just disappeared. I look at Liam, "The picture of Emme isn't here anymore."
"Yeah it is," Liam looks through the pictures three times and he does not find Emme.
"Maybe I was just imagining it Li."
"No, I saw it too, and I didn't have sugar yet today so I know I'm right," he says. But how is it remotely possible that a picture could just disappear. The ones from London are gone, too. The wind outside starts to pick up and a branch hits the window behind us. We both jump, turning around, having the feeling as if we are being watched at this very second. No one is there, it's just a viscous fall/winter storm, but their is a thin shadow of a person lurking around, trying to find a way in. Goose bumps go up my arms and Liam holds me a little closer to him and tighter. I call Harry and after like forever he picks up:

"Harry, come to our house with Emme and the boys and their children ASAP," I say, the boys are vacationing on the Rhode Island-Connecticut boarder. Li didn't go because he had the interview with Ellen.
"Why, is this one of Liam's pranks again?"
"No, come now, it's about your daughter and we are all in danger, everyone must come!"
"Okay, okay fine," and he hangs up the phone. Maybe I did over react a little, we are not in danger, but Summer does want to hurt us.

The boys and their kids and wives/girlfriends all come in a van in twenty minutes. The boys with kids pick up their kids and run with their wives and everyone else also runs through the rain. Harry is the first to come in with Emme and I take her from his arms almost imminently. She coughs as I move her back and forth in my arms. I bring everyone in, most of whom have never even seen this house or me in a couple years for that matter. I close the door, lock it, then I turn on the security system. The system goes off if any door or window is open in the house.
"What is going on?" Valerie asks. I notice her engagement ring is off, I wonder what happened between her and Niall.
"Kids, go in that room and play," Eleanor instructs, with a clear baby bump this time.
"No! Don't have your kids leave your side! Summer has been texting me threats about stealing Emme back and she put a picture in our digital frame telling us to say our last goodbyes!" I yell.
"And when we put the flashdrive into Kads' computer, the picture was gone," Li says. Perrie pulls Cate a little closer to her and El does the same with Kensington, Michael, and Danny. I motion for everyone to follow me into the kitchen and we sit on the couch by the fireplace as Li gets a fire going. Everyone takes off their shoes and then Harry speaks, "If Summer is here, then why are we here, not on the boarder?"
"Um, I didn't really think of that. I guess I didn't want Summer following you guys if we left, it would lead right to Emme," I say. I guess we maybe should have gotten a hotel or something. I put my feet on the edge of the fireplace to warm up my toes, "How are we supposed to protect our kids and ourselves?"
Truly, Perrie had a point, we have no plan.
"I guess I had everyone together here so it would be harder for Summer to get in Perrie. It is more likely one of us would see her trying to get in. I can show you guys the texts she sent me," I say and I hand Valerie my phone who is next to me. She scrolls through the page, her green eyes following every word.
"Wow, you've turned bad Kads," is all she can say as she gives the phone to Niall.
"Why is she even mad at us?" asks Niall.
"I don't know, what she says is she's mad because Liam and I won't give her an invite to our wedding. That's not true because she wants to go to the wedding so she can take Emme back since Emme's the flower girl," I say. The phone gets passed around in a circle. Six year old Kensington starts to cry, she understands what's going on while her twin, Michael, hasn't really made the connection. And four year old Cate and two year old Danny are completely confused. Emme is five, but she understands some of it, not all of it.
"I'll stay with the kids in another room, but just tell me what happens later Lou," Eleanor says.
I pick up Emme and Harry speaks, "No, she will stay down here, no matter how much I trust El, I am not leaving my baby girl."
I nod and I put Emme on his lap. I pick up Cate and Michael and El gets Danny and Kensington. We walk upstairs into an unfinished room next to me and Li's bedroom. We can hear the others downstairs talking about what to do.
"What is this room used for?" El asks scanning the empty room.
"It does not have a use," I say.
"Well, where are your childrens' rooms going to be?"
"Kids?! I'm not having kids."
"There annoying and messy and I don't want to freak out a kid by having them live with me," I say and El sighs and says something about how I'd be great with kids, whatever.
