Learning to Trust

*Sequel to Different From the Rest*
Kady is grown up now. She is now eighteen, a far cry from fourteen. There is no One Direction, if you asked your kids about them they'd be like "are you high again?" Kady's stutter is long gone, but the fears from it will never surrender. Being alone, forgotten, useless. Mainly she can't trust, anyone, not others around her, not herself. She makes a mistake that can't be fixed, and must go on with her life. Kady has to learn that you must leave the past behind you before you can move forward and not all mountains can be moved. It's a bowl of cherries, with a few-no many, nuts thrown in.

10. The Last Hours of Being Free

"Hold still!" El says inserting yet another bobby pin into my hair.
"Finished!" she says and I look up into the mirror in front of me. I don't look like myself, I look almost, pretty. El goes onto my makeup, but it's not necessary, I already look pretty enough. Perrie comes and fixes a few strands of hair that have fallen out and puts in Anti-Frizz spray, "You are too young to be getting married!"
"I'm eighteen and I've been with Liam for the last five years."
"But you-I just can't believe it."
"I thought the same thing when you and Zayn got married at twenty-one."
Perrie now goes onto my nails. She's doing them a cream color and my ring finger will have a little pink flower on it. Perrie wanted crazy nails, like neon and turtles, but it wouldn't fit the traditional theme.
"Are you nervous?" asks El.
"You mean you can't see me shaking?"
"It's fine, at least it was with me and Lou."
"Yea, because he started to sing Everything About You."
"He's amazing, isn't he."
"Yea…what do I do?"
"Go with the flow," Perrie says. I remember Perrie's wedding. It was very modern, but that's not my style. It was a tiny wedding, for celebrities. There were only about a hundred guests, only her close family and friends. Li took me as his date, it was so much fun. The wedding was by a river, then the reception was in a boat that went down the river. Zayn was a little freaked out by all the water, but I guess faced his fears, "Let me see that ring again."
I show El the diamond ring, "I want that ring."
"I would find lots of things clothes, shoes, diamond rings, stuff that's driving me insane!" Perrie sang. El rolls her eyes.
"Stop moving Kads!" El says putting on one last swipe of mascara.
I stand up from the chair.
"Now we need to get on your dress," says El. The girls help me get on my dress. It looks ten times prettier than yesterday. I'm careful not to get my wet nails on my dress. The wedding is in five hours, five hours until I'll see Liam. It's a British tradition not to look at the bride until she is standing at the alter, and I respect England's customs. Perrie and Eleanor had to do it for their weddings too. Of coarse, I had to wake up earlier than Li so he wouldn't see me and because it's always more preparations for the lady. I'm at El's house now. There's a babysitter downstairs with her kids and Lou's at my house with Liam. The fourth one hasn't been born yet. Same with Zayn and Cate. But, I actually think Cate may be with the boys.
"Kensington, Michael, Danny, come here!" El yells. There are footsteps running up the stairs and the door to the bathroom flings open.
"I need to see if you all look okay," El says smoothing out Kensington's dress, "now, you can't get these dirty. Boys, you are good, so you can go back downstairs. They almost trample the babysitter running down the stairs.
"It's your turn for hair and makeup," Perrie says patting the chair I was just in. Kensington sits down, "But isn't makeup tested on animals, it kills the animals!"
I laugh, "Turning out like that model you always wanted El."
"Shhh, no honey, this is special makeup. It was tested on me, and look I'm beautiful," El says making up the story on the spot. Kensington laughs, "Your pretty Mommy. But, the baby will be prettier."
Perrie and I erupt into uncontrolled laughter. Eleanor shoots us a look, "Well, I can't argue with that, Kensington."
Perrie curls her hair and El does her makeup. El doesn't trust Perrie doing makeup because her makeup is very dramatic. I slip on the black pumps and put in the teardrop earrings. In my second piercing, I put in a pair of pearls. I also put on the small K necklace I got from way back when. I add a silver cuff bracelet just 'cause. Kensington is talking about how cute Barbie and Ken are together.
"What do you think about Liam and me?" I ask.
"You can do better than Liam," she says and El and Perrie giggle. That is the first time someone has ever said I'm too good for Li. It has always been vice versa, everyone thinks Liam is too good for me.
"It's okay, Kenz, Liam is perfect," that is probably the first time I've ever said that.
"Your all set Kensington, just walk and don't fight with your brothers, you don't want to mess up this perfectness!" says El. Kenz nods and hops out of her chair. As told to do so, she walks down the stairs.
"She's so obedient," says Perrie.
"I wish Michael and Danny would be more like her," El says.
"Cate is a handful, she's always jumping off things, of coarse she's instructed by Zayn to do so."
"Lou does the same thing! Always telling the kids to do crazy stuff. Your in for some fun, Kads, even Daddy Direction wouldn't keep his kids calm."
"I don't know about that, it may be just me, but Li's been different since One Direction. He's lost some of his humor. It's like a piece of his heart got ripped out, his world is singing. He doesn't sing as much around the house anymore and when one of the boys' songs come on the radio, he usually changes it," I say.
"Lou's the same, he doesn't have those four other boys for support. I think it's natural, and this phase will pass over," El says. I shrug, maybe.

One by one, my other bridesmaids and Maid of Honor come to El's house. They're all in their black mini dresses. It took two months for them all to agree on one dress. But, Peyton is wearing the exact same dress, just in white because she's the Maid of Honor. Everyone wears nude colored heels and pearl studs.  Perrie and I fix the girls' hair so they're in curly, high ponytails. My hair is in a messy bun. El does everyone's makeup, she's like a pro with the skin tone has what color thing. There's a knock on the front door and El goes down to answer it, "The limo's here!"
Everyone, me, El, Perrie, Ruth, Nicola, Jana, Lucinda, Lena, Lilly, Peyton, Kensington, Michael, and Danny, pile into the limo. We are squished, thanks to my dress.
"Kads wedding here we come!" yells Peyton.
