Learning to Trust

*Sequel to Different From the Rest*
Kady is grown up now. She is now eighteen, a far cry from fourteen. There is no One Direction, if you asked your kids about them they'd be like "are you high again?" Kady's stutter is long gone, but the fears from it will never surrender. Being alone, forgotten, useless. Mainly she can't trust, anyone, not others around her, not herself. She makes a mistake that can't be fixed, and must go on with her life. Kady has to learn that you must leave the past behind you before you can move forward and not all mountains can be moved. It's a bowl of cherries, with a few-no many, nuts thrown in.

13. Matchmaker

After two more speeches, one from Liam's mother and the other from Zayn, it was time for my dance with my stepdad.
"I chose this song for Kady because it was one of her father's favorite One Direction songs," Liam says. The first few notes of Moments starts to play. This is such an old song and it was my father's favorite. A slideshow with pictures starts to play. It's mainly Liam and I and my dad and I. There are a few pictures from the photo frame and some from my phone-what the? Anthony offers me his hand and I take it. We move to the song, thanks to countless practices with a dance teacher. Liam, Niall, Harry, Zayn, and Lou sing the song at the back of the stage. Anthony twirls me around and I start to laugh, one of the few times I've laughed because I'm having fun, "I wanna be with you, I wanna feel your warmth, I wanna lay beside you."
I start to tear up again. That's all I want to do with my father is see him again. I want to call him "daddy", watch American football with him, and to jump on his back when he gets home from work.
"I know that reminds you of your father," says Anthony. Is he a mind reader? Gosh, that was exactly what I was thinking. I don't respond to him, he and my mom don't own me anymore, Liam does. I look over my left shoulder to Li and he winks. I smile, even if my dad was here, I would be saying goodbye anyway. I decide to soak up the moment. Anthony spins me around again and I stumble. I laugh it off, that was my biggest fear, but now it'll just be a funny memory.

After the dance, I hold the sides of the microphone, "I decided to actually do a fast song for Liam."
"Oh God!" yells Karen and I look away for a second, "And this song is one of Liam's absolute favorites. Before you all ask, I'm not going to sing, your ears would bleed. One Direction and Ed will sing this. It's Friday by Rebecca Black!"
Liam does a face plant, he doesn't really like this song. I step off the stage and I go back to the table with my bridesmaids. Friday starts to be sung, and Karen like can't move, she's like a frozen Popsicle and Li's dancing around.
"It's Friday, Friday, gotta get down on Friday," sings Niall, one of his few almost solos.
"It's Saturday, dumb head!" Lena yells. Lead by Harry, they start to change it to Saturday and gotta get down at the wedding. I think Harry has a thing for Lena, and who wouldn't? They were partnered during the wedding. Lena is incredibly beautiful with tan skin, dark brown eyes, and light blonde hair that never has a knot or hair out of place. You never know, maybe I played matchmaker! After about three minutes of Karen standing still, the song is over.
"Sorry I ruined your dance, heck, I made that song sound good!" Karen says and Li hugs her a goodbye, I belong to another person now. Louis goes up to the mic, "This is kind of strange, but for Liam and Kady's first dance, we're going to sing They Don't Know About Us. It reminds me of how they kept the news about they quiet for more than five months. They didn't say anything because Liam was afraid the so-called "fans" would get to her."
Other couples come onto the stage. This is a One Direction filled night! Wow, 2k rewind.
"May I have this dance?" asks Liam offering me his hand.
"You may," I say taking his hand. He pulls me close and we rock back and forth.
"People say we shouldn't be together, too young to know about forever," Harry sings covering Liam's official part. Liam sings the words softly and I mouth them. At the end of the line, Liam picks me up and spins me around, just like what he did at my birthday party a million billion years ago. What I've never noticed is that Liam always does things he's done before and nothing really changes, I like it that way. I wish nothing ever changed, but that will happen when I can walk on water. He puts me down, how can he still lift me up, I'm like-heavy. Sure, my doctor tells me I'm a healthy weight, but she must be saying that to make me feel better. The kids sit in their seats strangely eyeing the other kids. The young couples, by that I mean twelve, thirteen, fourteen, start to slowly get up. Most of them are our cousins and their dates. I focus myself back on Liam and he tucks a strand of my hair behind my ear, "What does our baby think of our wedding, does it approve?"
"By the kicking, I'll take that as a yes," I say and he puts his hand on my stomach. He's never actually felt our baby kick before. What are good names? Cole? Trudi? Blythe? Rachel? Makenzie? Never mind, I'll deal with this in six months. The song ends, but I don't want it to. It was like me and Liam's National Anthem of us. I go off the stage to talk to some of the non-dancers as a hired band takes over.
"You looked so pretty!" said Lena when I came back.
"Thanks, but you look better."
"No, never ever never."
I see Harry out of the corner of my eye as I'm talking to Lena. He adjusts his bow tie and runs his hand through his hair. He's so interested Lena.
"Hey, Lena, I was kinda wondering um, if you you know, erm, wanted to dance with me?" Harry asks. Lena is speechless, "She would love to, Harry."
I push her forward and she starts to walk. They take a place on the stage and I can tell Harry is using one of his cheesy pickup lines. It's something like "I lost my teddy bear, can I hug you?" Lena really seems to like him too, which is a good thing. I go over to one of the buffet tables, and I get a cup of milk coffee. Dinner is just about to be served, and I want to have something that'll keep me remembering the best night of my life.
