Rome was a normal girl who lived in a village, that was until she was cursed by a prophecy.

6. Chapter Six

We stopped in front of Nathaniel's door. She knocked on the door. We heard rustling and then the door opened. Nathaniel's dark brown hair was all messed up. He had clearly been running his fingers through it, which meant that he had probably been studying. His light brown eyes bored into my black eyes. He smiled at me.

"Hey, I haven't seen you in a while!" I laughed.

"It's only been a couple of days." I told him. He just shook his head. He was wearing jeans that had holes at the knees. He was wearing a black t-shirt underneath a red and white plaid shirt. He looked hot.

"Come in, Rome. I'm afraid, Pandora that you will have to leave." I could tell that he was joking. I tried to keep a straight face. She crossed her arms over her chest and pouted. "I was only kidding, Pan."

"I knew that. And would you please stop calling me Pan. My name is Pandora." She said. I laughed. She looked over and glared at me. "You're lucky you have a name that can't have a nickname." I rolled my eyes. Pandora hated when people tried to shorten her name. Most people want their names to be short if they have a long name, but not Pandora. She likes her name just the way it is.

"What about, Ro?" Nathaniel suggested. I shrugged my shoulders. I defiantly prefer Rome. "I think that's what I'll call you from now on." I shook my head.

"You better not." I warned. He smiled down at me. He's tall whereas I'm average, about 5'5. His smile caused my stomach to flip.

"Well, I'm sorry to say this, but I have to go. Shade wants me to help him with something. Remember we're having a group hunt next week." She said to me. How could I forget about the group hunt? I am head of the clan and pack. I broke out of my thoughts and nodded to reply to her. She ran down the hall, towards the stairs.

Nathaniel shut his bedroom door. His room was crammed with all kinds of books, parchment paper was lying on the floor, some of it used and others were blank. His bed was messed up. He had images on his wall of people he looked up to. He loves astronomy. He has devoted most of his life to studying it. He's a total genius.

His telescope was at the window, which was open. He must've been looking at the stars before Pandora and I got here.

"Am I interrupting something?" I asked. I'd hate to interrupt when he's studying the stars. He quickly shook his head.

"I was almost done anyway." He assured me. I nodded my head. He shut the window and sat the parchment he had been writing on, on the his desk. "So, how have you been?" He asked me, while looking through his telescope.

"I've been better." I answered truthfully. I've never wanted to lie to Nathaniel and I'm not going to start. Besides he'd see through my lie anyway. He looked over at me, worry etched on his face. "It's fine though, Nate."

"Are you sure?" He asked. I nodded my head. He walked over to me. "What's going on? You can tell me."

"I know I can tell you." I said. I bit my lip. "Luna has been stronger lately and I'm dealing with that and Shade. He acts like he likes me, but then turns around and makes out with Zaphara. That's not even the worst part. He marked me." I finished talking and looked up at Nathaniel. He looked tense. He brushed my hair away from my neck. He touched the mark, which caused shivers to run through my body. Anger flashed across his face.

"Why did he mark you?" Nathaniel asked through clenched teeth. I hesitated. "Tell me now, Rome."

"We both got carried away. I wish I had never let him touch me." Nathaniel nodded his head. He took his hand away from my mark.

"Do you mean that?" He asked, as he brushed his lips against mine. I nodded my head, wishing he would close the distance already. He finally closed the distance. My heart started beating faster. I grew weak, but Nathaniel held onto me.

Mate. My wolf said. I hadn't heard from her for awhile. I would've never thought that Nathaniel would be my mate. We have been friends for a while now.

I ran my fingers through his hair. He bit my bottom lip, which caused me to moan. I felt him smile. He pulled away too soon. I smashed my lips back to his. We both backed up until we fell on his bed. We didn't break away from the kiss.

He moved down to my neck. It seemed like he knew all of my sweet spots, which made sense since he's my mate. He sucked on my collar bone. I moaned. He moved back up to my lips. He lifted up my shirt a little. I stopped him and shook my head.

"I'm not ready." I said. He nodded his head. I pulled my shirt back down just as Shade walked in. My eyes widened. He looked between Nathaniel and me.

Please don't fight. I begged in my mind. Shade looked incredibly hurt. Luna, I noticed felt guilty, even though she hadn't been the one that kissed Nathaniel. I didn't feel the slightest bit guilty. Nathaniel is my mate, therefore Shade can't be hurt. But why should I feel guilty? Shade is always making out with Zaphara.

"Um, Raven wanted me to tell you that she needs help making dinner for the other werewolves." He said, talking to Nathaniel. Nate nodded his head and got up. Nate turned around and looked at me.

'You can come help too, if you want.' Nathaniel said through my mind. I nodded my head and got up. Shade stopped me. I noticed Nathaniel clenching his fists.

"She'll be down in a minute; I just need to talk to her." Shade said. Nathaniel seemed hesitant, but nodded his head and walked off. "What were you two doing?"

"It's none of you business." I told him, angrily. Why is he acting like it's such a big deal? He gripped my wrist harder. "You're hurting me." I whimpered. This only caused him to grip harder.

"Tell me what you guys were doing." He ordered. "And tell me why my mark is gone." His eyes grew a darker shade of red. His second question confused me. It couldn't have just disappeared. Nathaniel is my mate, so that means that Shade's mark disappeared since he's not my actual mate.

"You will let me go." I commanded, using my ranking to help me out. He quickly let go of me as if I was hot coal. "What I and Nathaniel were doing is none of your business." Shade nodded his head. I walked out of the room. I walked down the stairs; I got to the bottom and took a left, where the kitchen is.

"Hey, look who it is!" Raven said. "Where have you been? We missed you." I smiled.

"I guess I've been distant....I'm sorry." She waved her hand dismissively.

"It's fine. At least you're just Rome right  now." Raven said, smiling. "Nathaniel get your ass over here." She shouted, even though he was sitting at the table, which wasn't far from the kitchen. He rolled his eyes.

"What do you want, Raven?" He asked his sister.

"I need you to go tell the others that dinner is ready." Nathaniel nodded his head and walked off. After a couple minutes Nathaniel came back. "Wow! That was fast even for you." Nathaniel shook his head.

"They were already on their way up here." He told his sister. She simply nodded her head. Nathaniel grabbed my hand and we walked out of the kitchen. He lead me to a closet that hasn't really ever been used.

"What are we doing in here?" I asked him. He turned on the light. He pushed me up against the wall, his arms trapped me. He smashed his lips to mine. I immediately relaxed. My heart started beating faster.

I pulled away. "I think we should go eat before it's all gone." I said, breathing heavily. Nathaniel nodded his head. We left the closet and went to get our food.

After dinner I got up to leave the dining room. I walked out and started walking to my bedroom. It's been a hectic day. Somebody grabbed my wrist and yanked me to them.

"You have a letter from one of the biggest clans in the world." Shade said, walking towards my office. I followed him. He handed me a red envelope, it was sealed with the clan's crest. I opened it and unfolded the parchment.

Dear Rome,

I am writing this letter to inform you we will be having an important meeting in exactly two days. I hope you have not forgotten. I know how hectic it must be with your uncivilized vampires and werewolves. We will be discussing important issues that are happening in the vampire community. I think it will be very informative for you since you're still new to running a clan.

There are also new laws the rulers have passed. I would like to discuss these new laws with you. I assume you have not heard of them yet. I will be bringing my top vampires. I assume you will also have your top vampires with you. I must stop writing now. I am running out of ink. I can't wait to hear your views and opinions on everything.

Sincerely, Devon

How could I forget about this? I hate this guy so much! He thinks his clan is the best clan that has ever existed. Maybe the rulers finally figured out it's 2014 and not the 18th century. They expect us to still live in the Victorian age and most of us do. I guess it's just our culture though. The werewolves have no problem with keeping up to date, but vampires are old fashioned.

I put the letter back on my black desk. Shade was still in here. I crossed my arms over my chest.

"What?" I asked him, annoyed. That letter really pissed me off. I know I shouldn't be taking it out on Shade, but oh well.

"Nothing," he said quickly. "It was nothing." He quickly left the room. I ran my fingers through my hair. I sat down on the chair behind the desk.

I went through letters, reading all of them. I was looking for the letter the Rulers would've sent about the new laws. I eventually found it. They had put the letter in a tan envelope. It was sealed with red wax. I'm not kidding when I say they still live in the 18th century.

I opened the letter and read it. They literally only made two new laws and they're minor at that. I shook my head and tossed the letter aside.

There wasn't anything important. There were only letters complaining about the way vampires live (those letters were from werewolves). I guess I can understand where the werewolves are coming from. Some of us don't clean up after ourselves. I try to unless I'm in a hurry.

I heard a knock on the door. What now? I just want to relax.

"Come in." I called, trying to hide my annoyance. The door opened. Pandora and Raven sat down. I raised my eyebrows.

"Shade and Nathaniel are fighting." Pandora said. My eyes widened. I quickly got up. I can't catch a break!

"Where are they at?" I asked them. They looked at each other, hesitant. "Tell me now." I said, using Luna's voice. I let her take over. I would need her to deal with this.

"They're outside in the woods behind the castle." I ran out of the room and out of the castle. I was fast, thanks to my vampire and werewolf speed combined. I stopped when I saw them.

They were beating each other up. What caused this? I don't even need to ask. Rome is what happened. Jeez why can't she settle with one guy? My heart went out to Shade, whereas Rome's went out to Nathaniel.

I swear just a couple hours ago she was so in love with Shade. I have to admit tough I never truly liked Shade, but for some strange reason I think he might be my beloved. Which also means if Nathaniel is Rome's mate....We can never truly be with them.

For the first time I felt like I needed to stop the curse, break it. I've never wanted to do that, but it has ruined mine and Rome's lives. I'm done trying to destroy Rome and this clan/pack.

I let Rome take over. My approach wouldn't be the right one. At least I don't think so.

"What are you guys doing?" I, Rome asked. They stopped fighting and looked at me. They backed away from each other. "Please tell me what happened."

"I'll tell you-"

"No, I'll tell her." Shade said. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I opened my eyes and looked at the two idiots.

"Nathaniel what happened?" I asked. Shade's been known to lie and I don't think Nathaniel has ever lied to me. I guess I just don't trust Shade that much. He's hurt me a lot.

"He told me to back off of you. That you were his; he claimed you and blah, blah, blah. I told him I wasn't going to because you're my mate. I also told him that he marked you without your consent. Yeah, so then we started fighting. I'm sorry, Rome." I nodded my head.

"You both should've known better. Both of you are acting like little kids." I even felt like I was dealing with two five year olds.

"We are deeply sorry." Shade said, grabbing my hand. I pulled my hand away, his touch repulses me. His expression held pain. I didn't care. He had hurt me numerous times.

"I'm sure both of you are. This will not happen again." I commanded. They nodded their heads. "Now get back to the castle." They walked off, Nathaniel walking slower than Shade, like he was waiting for me.

I caught up to him and put my hand in his.

"I'm not mad at you, Nathaniel." I said, softly. He looked down at me.

"You should be." He said, sadly. "We were being immature." I nodded my head. Nate sighed. "I need to know something though...." He trailed off. What if he doesn't want to be with me after all? Stop worrying. I doubt it's that.

"What are we?" He asked me. The question took me by surprise. To be honest I'm not really sure. I know we're mates, but is that enough? "I just don't want to get hurt." I nodded my head. I wouldn't ever want to hurt him.

"You're my mate...." I trailed off. I closed my eyes. "This will probably be confusing. Luna's beloved is Shade." He gave me a confused look.

"Luna was a real person before the curse set in place. It's only natural that she'd be in love with someone too." I finished explaining. I don't know if any of the made sense.

"What you're telling me is that you and Luna have two different mates?" I nodded my head. "I assume you can't be with me and Luna can't be with Shade until the curse is broken."

"Yeah, that's about right." I said, looking at the ground. "I'm sorry you got dragged into this." He shook his head.

"There's nothing to be sorry about, Rome." He sighed. "I guess I'll have to accept that we can't be together." I reached my hand out to touch his hand, but he pulled back. I quickly brought my hand back to my side. "Do you have any idea how to break the curse?" I shook my head.

"I'll wait for you, Rome. But I think it'd be wise if we kept our distance." I shook my head. What's he saying?

"W-why?" I choked out, trying not to sob. He stuffed his hands in his pockets.

"That way none of us get hurt." He turned around and made his way back to the castle. I let him go. Maybe he'll change his mind. No, he's right. I kicked at the ground with my black boots. Tears rolled down my cheeks. I just lost my mate.

I wiped the tears away. Stupid curse! Why me? I made my way back to the castle. Raven greeted me at the door.

"What happened out there? Nathaniel came back looking glum. Is everything okay?" I nodded my head.

"Yeah, everything's fine so stop worrying." I forced a smile. She gave me a weird look, but didn't ask any questions.

"You don't look fine." She commented. I shrugged my shoulders. I felt empty, but I couldn't show weakness. I have to remain strong for my pack and clan.

"I haven't been fine ever since this stupid curse happened." I said, shoving past her. I know I shouldn't have said that. I walked to my room. I sat down at the edge of my bed.

I can't be with the guy I love and neither can Luna.

Nathaniel's POV

What did I do? I know I should've given us a chance. I know she wanted that. I guess I'm afraid of getting hurt. This will probably sound really immature, but Shade has always gotten everything. It sickens me how Rome- or should I say Luna, sees him as this perfect guy. He's not.

I've loved Rome ever since she first got here. I've known for a while now that's she's my mate. But it always seemed like her attention was on Shade.

Nobody will love her more than I do.
