Rome was a normal girl who lived in a village, that was until she was cursed by a prophecy.

14. Chapter Fourteen

"Do you really think you can save them?" Devon asked. My eyes swept over the scene. My clan/pack's bodies laid lifeless on the ground. "Do you really think you can save any of them?" I glared at Devon.

"I will make sure they did not die in vain." I said, through gritted teeth. Devon smirked. I took out the sword I had Zeke make for me. I studied Devon before I made my first move. I swung the sword, so it'd hit him in the stomach. He dodged the sword just in time. I'll have to be quicker than that.

Knowing Devon he would be making the next move. I can't believe he would do this. And for what...power? Just looking at him makes me sick. How is this man my father? I watched as Devon's hand raised and I felt my throat tighten. He was choking me. I felt at my throat trying to make it stop.

I collapsed to the ground. I fell next to Nathaniel, my mate. He had died protecting me like he had promised he would. My heart broke again looking at his lifeless body. I tore my gaze away, focusing back on what was currently happening.

"You cannot let him win, Rome." Luna shouted inside my head. 'I know that.' I told her. "Let me take over." I nodded my head. Luna wouldn't be affected by his powers since she is a vampire. She smirked at Devon as she stood back up.

"You made a big mistake killing my clan and pack." I was in control again and I wasn't about to let him win. He killed innocent members. "You will pay." I raised my hand to the sky and it started thundering. Devon looked up at the sky in bewilderment. I smirked. With a flick of my wrist it started raining and lightening.

"You made a mistake, Luna." I furrowed my eyebrows. "You should be more aware of what's going on around you." Devon smirked. I fell to the ground in excrutiating pain. I looked down at where I felt the pain. I was stabbed with dead man's blood. It's toxic to vampires. How did one handle it? I looked behind me and saw a werewolf. He wasn't from my pack and from his smell I could tell he was a rouge.

I felt my life drifting away. I was supposed to win. I was supposed to live and make our world better. Devon ruined that. I gripped the dagger in my hand with all the strength I could muster. I pulled the dagger out. I screamed in pain. I have to do this before I die. Devon cannot live.

With the small strength I still had left I threw the dagger in Devon's direction. It pierced him in the chest, immediately causing him to fall to the ground. I watched as he withered on the ground, turning to ash.

I collapsed after that. I looked up at the sky as I lay there dying. The sun had come out and the sight was beautiful. A beautiful memory for my last one. I closed my eyes and welcomed the darkness.

I quickly woke up from my dream. I sat up in my bed. I was covered in sweat. I got up and got dressed. There's no way I'm going back to sleep after that nightmare. My heart tightened as I thought about the nightmare.

What if that comes true? What if my nightmare was actually a vision? I shook my head. No, that can't be it. I won't let my clan and pack die.

We have been training hard ever since I discovered what Devon has planned. All of us have made great progress. There are still things I need to figure out. We're taking one day at a time.

"Rome we need to talk." Zeke said. I nodded my head. I've noticed that it doesn't seem like Zeke ever sleeps. It must be because he's an angel.

"What do we need to talk about?" I asked. I suddenly started feeling nervous. What if it's about the nightmare I had?

"It's about Devon...he took your mom and little sister to an abandoned shack." My blood boiled then. What does he plan to do to my little sister? He wouldn't dare hurt his own mate, but he doesn't seem to have a problem hurting his own children.

"Do you know where he's taken them?" I asked, quickly. I will rescue my sister. I won't let him hurt her. Zeke nodded his head.

"Yes, but he has the location heavily guarded. We'll need help to rescue your mother and sister." I nodded my head. I hadn't planned to go alone anyway.

"Okay," I said. I was already forming a plan in my head. I will rescue my mother and sister no matter what.

The training room was filled with sunlight streaming through the floor length windows. Pack and clan members were fighting. I looked around the room for Pandora. Shade had told me she'd be here. She's been training more than any other member. I'm pretty sure I know why and I wish I could somehow convince her that she's not weak.

I finally found her in the back of the training room fighting Raven. At least they're both down here so I won't have to make another trip searching for Raven.

They stopped fighting when they both noticed me. Pandora caught on to my anxious feeling. I needed to save them....time is running out.

"Rome, what's wrong?" Pandora asked. She sounded frantic. I took a deep breath.

"Devon took my mother and sister to an abandoned shack. I'm sure he plans on torturing them because he knows it'll hurt me. I need both of your guys' help." They both nodded.

"You know we'll always have your back, Rome." Raven said, gently smiling. I nodded my head. Of course I knew they'd always be loyal to me. I just seem to be asking a lot from them here lately.

We met up with the others a couple minutes later. We sat down at the huge black table in the meeting room, so that I could go over everything. I'm not sure how this plan will go, but I can only hope it'll work.

I explain to Shade, Pandora, Raven, Nathaniel, and Zeke the plan. Zeke had drawn me a picture of the shack earlier. I explained to each of them who would stay outside and who would go inside the shack with me. Shade and Raven would stay outside and Pandora, Nathaniel, and Zeke would accompany me inside.

The plan wasn't flawless at all and I could see the doubt on their faces. I didn't say anything to reassure them that this would all go to plan because I didn't know if it would. I wouldn't put false hope in their minds.

We made our way outside. We all carried weapons of our choice. I had my dagger strapped to my waist and the sword Zeke made me slung over my shoulder in its sheath. Shade had his dagger hidden in his jacket pocket. Nathaniel had his wolf, which was an advantage. Pandora had a bow and arrow. Zeke had his shiny silver sword. It seemed like he never was without it.

All of us grabbed Zeke's shoulder and we were teleporting to the shack. We would land a distance away. When we landed I quickly looked over the scenery. I listened closely, but I didn't hear any screams or anything. That made me relax only slightly.

All of us shared knowing looks. It was time. This was now or never.

We quietly walked to the shack. It wasn't big and I'm sure it only had two rooms at the least. It shouldn't be hard to find my mother and sister. Getting them out will be the hard part.

Shade and Raven advanced on the guards knocking them unconscious. We wouldn't kill them...at least not yet. Shade and Raven then proceeded to check the premises. They waved us forward once they finished.

The rest of us walked to the front door of the shack and I quietly opened it. The shack was dark, but with what little light that was coming through the cracks I could see that there was glass everywhere.

Zeke moved forward his blue eyes swept over the shack, looking for anything out of the ordinary. He looked at me and shook his head. I nodded my head.

My body tensed when I felt another presence in the room. It could only be Devon.

"Well, look who we have here...." I glared at him. He started walking around us. "I knew you would come if I took them." I was raging with anger. I wanted him dead. It might seem harsh to some how I would want my own father dead, but it was simple...he isn't my dad and he never will be.

"Where are they?" I demanded. Devon smirked. He knew he held the cards in this game of his. I won't let him win. He's taken things way too far.

"And why should I tell you?" I clenched and unclenched my fists.

"They're my family that's why!" I shouted. I walked closer to him. I took out my dagger and positioned it against his throat. "If you don't tell me where they are I will cut you." Devon smirked.

"You don't scare me, Rome." He looked thoughtful for a moment. "Why tell you when I can show you?" The floor opened and all of us fell into darkness. We hit the ground seconds later.

The room we were in was dark and I couldn't see a single thing. I suddenly heard a whimper. My heart started to race once I recognized it. I haven't seen my little sister in so long.

Lights suddenly turned on. I looked around the room. The walls were pale white, and so was the ceiling. There weren't any windows. The room itself seemed to be underground and not connected to the shack at all.

I saw my sister in the corner of the room. Her arms and legs were chained together. She could barely move. I quickly got up and ran towards her only to be stopped by a strong force. I furrowed my eyebrows.

"It's a force field. It was conjured up with magic." Zeke said. I nodded my head, feeling defeated. How am I supposed to save my family now?

"What's wrong with Pandora and Nathaniel?" I asked. They looked to be in a deep sleep. Why it seemed to only be effecting them I have no idea.

"It must be some kind of spell....Devon doesn't want them to fight it seems." I nodded my head. We couldn't do anything to wake them up right now.

"Welcome Rome and Zeke." I knew that voice. Walking down a flight of stairs was my mom. She didn't look different at all. She looked sad, but that was the only noticeable difference. She was acting strange though....

"Mom," I questioned. She smirked.

"I'm not your precious little mommy. Your mom is currently...not present at the moment."

"You bitch! What did you do to her?" I shouted. My mom smirked, although it wasn't my mom it just looked like her.

"I haven't done anything to her...yet." At this I ran full speed at the creature. It raised its hand and sent me flying backwards. I hit the wall with a ton of force. I quickly got up, ignoring the pain of hitting the wall.

Zeke was fighting her. I looked around the room. I found him standing in the corner smirking. I charged at him. I stabbed him in the stomach. He didn't act like he had been stabbed.

"That won't work on me, daughter."

"Don't you dare ever call me daughter." He sighed.

"Very well," he walked over to my little sister. I tried following him, but once again the force field wouldn't let me pass. "You're going to watch me torture your little girl." My sister whimpered. My heart broke at seeing her in so much pain. It was never meant to be like this. She wasn't supposed to get hurt.

I looked over at Zeke and saw that he had killed the creature that had disguised itself as my mother. Its true form lied lifeless on the ground. Now Zeke was working on destroying the force field. It worked.

I ran at Devon but he dodged my attack. I'd have to be quicker.

"You know I have all the answers to your questions. Would it really be wise to kill me?" I glared at him.

"I don't want your answers. I've gotten enough." I said. He nodded his head.

"How about we make a deal? I'll tell you how to break your curse and you let me take over your clan."

"How could you possibly know how to break my curse?" I asked.

"Oh, because I'm the one who made it." I almost collapsed then. I knew Devon was heartless, but I didn't think he'd ever do something like that.

"W-why?" I sounded weak. He knew what my weaknesses were and he was using them. 'He's winning this game, Rome. Don't let him win.' Luna told me. She has a point. I won't let him win, I can't.

"It's simple really. You were always destined to be the most powerful creature in existence, but I couldn't have that. I would be the most powerful creature in existence. I couldn't let you take my place, so I cursed you."

"You really are pathetic." Devon smirked.

"So I've been told." I took this opportunity to swing my sword at him. He dodged my attack once again. Dammit! He charged at me and threw me across the room. He then took out a red handled dagger. He raised it and I knew what he was going to do next. I couldn't let him kill my sister. I got up finding it rather difficult. My whole body hurt.

I ran at full speed toward Devon. Just as he was about to stab my sister in the chest I stepped in front of him. The dagger plunged into my heart. I fell to the ground in pain. I couldn't move. And just before darkness consumed me I heard the scream of my mate, Nathaniel.
