Broken (Harry Styles FanFic)

Part of me wanted to walk up to her and wrap her in my arms because as much as I hated her for making me feel this way; I also hated watching her cry. But the other part of me, the part that was build up with rage and pain, just wanted to walk away from all of this and never turn back.
I wasn't sure what part I wanted to listen to, so I just took a deep breathe trying to control my anger and took a few steps towards her. I tried my best not to hold her in my arms and whispered, “sometimes broken things can't be fixed, Monica.

Chapter 9

I was sitting in the living room doing some home work. We have only been living in London for about two weeks and I decided to start summer classes at the university that my father's job was paying. I had to admit I was pretty thankful for that. I really do not know anyone around here and I figured that if I do the summer course then I will be a little preoccupied. To be honest I have been trying to avoid any thoughts of my mother or of Harry.

Ever since I saw him at the airport I haven't been able to stop thinking about him. The only image that had been roaming in my head is the image of his eyes. I've even been having nightmares. It's always the same nightmare. My mother's cold body lying on the ground as I try to bring her back to life. Last night was a little different though.

The nightmare started the same. I was trying to bring my mother back to life. I yelled and screamed her name begging her to wake up, but she wouldn't. Then out of nowhere Harry came into the picture. He was standing over me as I was on the ground next to my mother. I looked up at him. My eyes meeting his green orbs. He stretched out his arm asking for me to take his hand. Some how I knew that I should take it. I wanted to take his hand, but I couldn't. There was something holding me back. It was like as much as I tried to move from the ground where my mother laid; I couldn't move. I couldn't seem to leave my mother behind.

“Do you have class today?” My stepmother asked me waking me from my thoughts.

“Uh no. I just want to study and have a ton of homework. I think I am going to go study at a cafe near my school. I think I need a change of scenery,” I said.

“Alright. Are you going to be home for dinner?” she asked.

“I should be. It's not like I actually have anything to do,” I laughed.

She smiled and I made my way out gathering my books.

When I got to the cafe I ordered myself some tea and sat at a far table in the back of the cafe. I come in here sometimes to study before class. The cafe was cozy and small, but a lot of students seemed to enjoy coming here for a little studying.

I began to read the book that my professor had assigned for me to read when a red haired girl began to make a lot of noise. She was arguing with one of the guys at the cash register and I could tell that he was pretty embarrassed about the whole situation. He kept asking her to lower her voice, but she just screamed even louder.

“You scumbag!” She yelled throwing her hands in the air, “Ugh I hate you!”

She turned around meeting my gaze. I tried to look away as quick as possible hoping that she didn't notice I was listening to the whole argument. I looked down at my book then tried to sneak a peak at her wondering if she was still staring at me. I looked up and saw her starting to make her way towards me.

“Hey,” she said her tone a little strong.

“Uh hey,” I said.

“You're Nicollette, right?” She asked.

“Um yea,” I said wondering how she knew who I was.

She pulled out a chair and sat down at my table making herself comfortable.

“I am not stalking you or anything we have a class together. Actually we have two reading and that dreadful speech class,” she spoke with so much confidence.

“You are not English,” I said noticing she wasn't speaking a British accent.

“Wow you're smart,” she said sarcastically.

“Where are you from?” I asked.

“New York. My mother is a lawyer and got transferred here, so I was basically forced to move here.”

Why would she be forced to move here? I would move here willingly. I love it here. Although I haven't seen much of London; I just absolutely love the idea of living in another city. I've always been stuck in that little corner of Los Angeles and although I love LA; I've always wanted to travel to new places. With my mother being a drunk and having me pay all the bills I never got the chance of actually traveling our of LA. I am glad that I moved in with my dad and that he brought me with him. I wished that my mother was still alive so that she could have came with us, but I know that she wouldn't want to come even if I begged. She was the type of person who was afraid of change. She always wanted to stay in the same place and live by the same customs and rules. I think that when my dad left she was lost, so that was why she turned to the alcohol.

I wish that I could have don something to prevent her from becoming an alcoholic. Maybe if I would have done something to stop her then she would still be here.

“Hello,” the red head moved her hands in front of me trying to catch my attention, “Earth to Nicollette.”

“Uh. Oh. Sorry. I'm a little distracted,” I said.

“I can tell,” she said, “anyways I asked you where you were from.”

“Oh um Los Angeles,” I said.

“Nice. I'm Bethany by the way, but you can just call me Bethy.”

“You can call me Nicky,” I said, “so what was that whole argument over there with the cashier guy?”

She looked over at the guy then back at me, “Oh that. He is now my EX boyfriend.”

“Ex?” I questioned.

“Yeah I caught him cheating last night at a party we were at. He was too drunk to even remember, but I wasn't and I saw it all. So yeah we are over now,” she said. She didn't seem sad about it or like she even cared that she just terminated her relationship.

“Ok,” I said awkwardly.

“Anywho you should go to this club with me tonight. It is so hard to get into, but I've got my ways,” she said.

“What club?”

“Funky Buddha,” she answered.

“Oh,” I said. I wasn't sure if I was ready to go out and party. I mean it's only been about two months and a half since my mother passed away. I was still trying to forget about those horrible images when I watched her body go cold and lifeless.

“So are you down,” she asked.

“Um I'm not sure,” I said.

“Come on you grandma. You'll have fun,” she said.

I was about to deny her offer, but I guess it was time for me to go out and have a little fun. I had to get y mind off of Harry and my mother. These past months have been hard for me. I need to go out and have fun. I need to live my life.

“You know what yeah I'll go with you,” I said to her.

Her eyes immediately lit up and she shot out from her seat in front of me.

“Great I'll pick you up at 8:00pm,” she said. She grabbed my phone from the table and typed in her number, “Text me your address.”

I nodded and watched as she walked away. Just before exiting the cafe she flipped off her ex-boyfriend and then waved goodbye to me giving me a kind smile.

I had to admit she was an interesting person. I liked that she was so out going. Maybe hanging out with her won't be as bad.

I was suddenly excited to go out tonight. I don't remember the last time that I actually went out with friends and had a little bit of fun. If I am not mistaken the last time I went out to a club was when Ella promised me that Harry would be there and that he wanted to meet me. If someone would tell me that I would end up hating Harry simply because he is rude and blames all girls for the mistakes that one girl made' I would have laughed.

I quickly gathered my stuff and made my way home.

When I got home Martha and my father were no where to be found. I went into the kitchen and there was a note on the refrigerator.

Nicky we went out for dinner with some clients of mine. Martha made some dinner for you it's in the fridge go ahead and help yourself out. Love you.

I grabbed the not and turned it over. I grabbed a pen that was left on the table and wrote them a note.

Dad I went out with a friend. She is a girl from class and I will be home late. Don't wait up. Love you.

I made my way up to my room and began to get ready for this night out. I still hadn't unpacked some of my stuff and I don't even remember if I ever packed a dress that would be suitable for a night out. I went through all my clothes trying to find something, but it was hopeless. I was just about to give up when I stumbled upon a black lace dress. This is the dress I wore to the club where I was suppose to first meet Harry. Ugh stupid Harry.

Why is it that he always pops out in my mind?

I shook my head trying to shake all my thoughts of Harry away and began to get dressed.

My phone buzzed and I looked at the screen thinking it was Bethy, but I was surprised when I read Liam's name on the screen.

“Hello,” I answered.

“Nicky hey. So the boys and are going out tonight you want to join us,” he asked.

“Um, thanks but I know Harry would be there and I am not sure if him and I would actually get along,” I said forgetting that I actually had plans already.

“Harry agreed to play nice,” he said and I swore I thought he was joking.

“Thank you Liam, but I already made plans with some girl I met at school. How about we go out tomorrow,” I said.

“Yeah that's great we actually have this whole week off to ourselves so I think that would work. We can show you around town.”

“Sounds great,” I said.

We both said our goodbyes and set up some plans for tomorrow evening. As soon as I put my phone it buzzed again.

I answered it and this time it was Bethy telling me she was outside.

When I got in her car there were two other girls in there.

“Hey Nicollette. These are my friends Alex and Alejandra,” she said pointing at the two girls.

“Hi,” I awkwardly said, “So are girls from England or NYC like Bethy?”

“I am from NYC,” Alejandra said, “by the way just call me Ale.”

“I'm from England,” Alex said.

“So what club are we going to again?” I asked.

“Funky Buddha,” Alex answered, “My uncle owns the club. It is hard to get into, but since I am his favorite niece he let's me in whenever I want.”

“That's so cool,” I said.

When we arrived at the club there was a long line of people trying to get in. I followed Alex and Bethy as they cut right up in front of the line. We got a lot of stares and a lot of people cursed. Alex talked to the bouncer and soon we were let into the club no questions asked.

I followed Alex as she led the way into the club. There was already tons of people dancing to the upbeat techno music. I looked over at the bar and there were girls taking shots and guys buying girls shots. Everyone was here to have a good time and the energy in the club was insane. It put me in such a better mood. This was exactly what I needed. I was going to have fun tonight and no one was going to stop me.

Alex led us up to this private area where there were some couches set up and there was another bouncer standing there to keep anyone from going into that area. That must have been the VIP area. Alex hugged the bouncer and they laughed an talked over the loud music. It seemed like they knew each other pretty well. The bouncer stepped away and let us go through into the VIP section.

We sat down on the couches and a big bottle of alcohol was brought to us. Ale and Bethy poured some of the clear liquid into some shot glasses and then handed me one.

“Uh I don't drink,” I yelled over the loud music.

“What?! No! You have to drink!” Bethany yelled.

“No thanks. You guys can drink I’ll be the designated driver,” I said.

“Suite yourself,” she said and took my shot and hers.

I did used to drink, but after experiencing my mother's situation I chose not to drink at all. I don't think I can even stand to watch that liquid. It was the cause of my mother's death.

Some loud shrieks woke me from my thoughts. It was weird that I was able to hear the loud shrieks over the music. I looked over towards the entrance of the club and there was a lot of people hovering over the area.

“Oh great. They are here,” Alex said.

“Who,” I asked, but just before she could answer the music stopped and there was a man announcing something over the microphone.

“Ladies and Gentlemen the party is about to get started because we have One Direction in the house!”

“What!?” I yelled in shock.

“They come here sometimes,” Alex said, “This club is really popular with celebrities.”

“No,” I said, “They can't be here.”

They all stared at me confused as the music started again. I could see as the crowd made way for them and I prayed that they wouldn't come near me, but then I watched as the bouncer that had led us in moved to the side and the first one to come on sight was Harry.

His green orbs found my eyes and I felt that anger and pain inside of me again. His eyes were just too much for me to handle.

“Nicky?” He questioned.
