5. Chapter 4: Love Bites

Love Bites

Daniel and I sat in the library’s office, talking in hushed tones, getting to know each other.

And by that I mean, I was getting to know him, and he was getting to know a fictional version of me. Nonetheless, in little more than an hour, I was practically falling in love with this boy.

And he was better than the majority of youths I had heard about.

Danté and my “siblings” said that today’s youth was rude, boisterous and ill mannered, and from observation I could tell that, in the majority, that was true.

But there were some – definitely Daniel – who seemed…wonderful.

In fact, despite knowing him for such a short time, I had grown to trust this boy. Sure, he was over 200 years younger than me, and looked about 2 years my junior, but…

I felt I could tell him anything.

So…I did.

“Daniel…I want you to know something before we become friends, you know,” I said, twiddling my thumbs awkwardly.

“And what’s that?” he asked, genuinely interested, leaning forward on the table.

“Well…I’m gay,” I replied. “And I think I’m falling--”

I was cut suddenly and, rather remarkably, short as Daniel crushed his lips against mine.

I felt a sexual thirst. I didn’t need to feed because I was hungry…I needed to feed because…because I…

I pulled away and thrust my fangs into his neck, receiving a sigh in return – there was definitely pleasure in his sigh – that almost forced me to drink. As I felt his heartbeat weaken ever so slightly, I let go, gasping as I did.

“I’m…I’m…” I stumbled on my words as I saw the smile on his face.

“Thank you, Patrick…I knew there was something special about you.” Daniel wrapped his arms around me and rested his head on my shoulder, breathing slowly against my neck. “I’ve always loved the idea of vampires…”

I swallowed heavily and whispered, “You can’t tell anyone, okay? If you keep quiet, I promise I’ll turn you.”

“Really?” Daniel gasped, jerking upright, his movement causing a small bit of blood to trickle from his neck.

I nodded. “Yes. But there are some things you need to know about vampires.” I then proceeded to share with him the truth about vampires. The fact that if – or should I say “when” – I turned him, he would not be able to go in sunlight for a century. I exposed the myths as what they were and, once I finished explaining, he nodded, kissed me again and said:

“Whatever you say…master.”

So that’s how Danté feels,” I thought, as my body tingled with pride, happiness and…power…

THE END
