6. Wherever

~Chapter Six~

They sat in front of the fire, hand in hand, and thought for a while of somewhere to go. Turns out, it was a long while because when they had decided to go to Hogsmeade, people had started to crowd into the common room. Lots of people gave them funny looks, especially Ron and Harry, who were still eating. Harry sat with his back to the fire on the floor but Ron just sat in the middle of them, breaking up the holding of hands.
"Hermione, we need your help."
"What is it, Ron? Can't you see I'm busy?" She linked her and Devon's hands and held them in front of Ron. He looked down, ashamed, and shuffled onto the ground next to Harry. Hermione and Devon moved back into each other so that their shoulders were touching and their personal space was crowded with another's. They looked up at Hermione hopefully.
"Fine. What now?"
Harry and Ron looked at each other then looked at Devon, telling him without words that he couldn't be here right now. Devon felt their eyes burning through him, he got up to leave but Hermione pulled him back down.
"He's with me." She said, her teeth gritted. He smirked. Harry looked around, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of parchment. As he unfolded it, Devon looked at in shock: he'd heard the rumour of Dumbledore forming an army to overthrow the Ministry, but not until now did he realise how real it was. Harry noticed him staring and moved it around to see if Devon's eyes would follow - sure enough, they did.
"We can't trust him." He said as he slipped the parchment back into his pocket. Hermione looked offended. Devon realised they were talking about him, again.
"Yes we can!" Hermione shouted. Most people in the common turned around to look at them.
"Yes we can." She said again in a lower voice. "We need to find somewhere safer than this to discuss the matter. How about the girls bathroom?"
"Eww, no way!" Devon wrinkled his face up at the thought.
"Don't worry, no one uses it because Myrtle is in there."
Harry and Ron nodded, Devon took a little more convincing but agreed in the end. Hermione got up from the sofa in sync with Devon, Harry and Ron followed their actions. They looked at each other and Devon thought that they were going to accuse him of something, but they just said that they needed to grab their wands before setting out. Harry and Ron jumped up the stairs, three at a time, to their dorm. Hermione slumped back on the sofa because she knew, damn well, that they already had their wands - she had seen Ron's sticking out his back pocket. Once they knew no one was listening, they quickly changed and whispered to each other something about getting rid of Devon so that Hermione's head would clear, and they could focus on getting The Order back together. Although Harry thought there was something strangely familiar with Devon, they made an unspoken deal to get rid of him, no matter what it took.

Clambering back down the stairs, making a lot of noise, were Harry and Ron. Hermione stood up and her hands flew straight to her hips.
"And what took you two so long?"
"Uh, I couldn't remember where I put my wand..." Harry said quickly. Hermione's head whipped around and her eyes met Ron's.
"What about you?"
"M-me?" Ron stammered.
"Yes, you!" Hermione said in a raised voice.
"Well, uh, I w-was helping Harry...f-find his wand." He replied, uncertainly. She glared in his direction and dropped her hands from her hips.
"Come on." She said, turning on her heel. "We're wasting time."
They hurried out of the common room, and down to the girls bathroom. Harry, Ron and Hermione walked in without a second thought, but Devon stopped dead in his tracks. He gulped and looked around. Hermione traced her steps back outside. She stood by Devon and leant her head on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry this ruined our date."
"Don't be sorry." He said, taking her head off his shoulder. He put his arms around her waist and let her warmth surge though him. "It's not your fault." He breathed. She looked up at him and stared straight into his bright green eyes. He pushed back a piece of hair from her face and brought his lips to meet hers. The kiss didn't last long but he knew that it was enough to break the tension between them. Standing there, they cuddled a little longer and walked in to the girls bathroom, hand in hand, smiling.
