A Magical Year (Magical trilogy book #2)

*Complete* 1976 ... Last year, Alex and Kyle visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with their school. They're best friends, and more like a brother and sister. Hogwarts was not the kind of school they expected to ever visit, since it taught REAL magic. And they never expected to meet such people there, people who they'd love.
Because of this love, Alex got the ability to make some simple spells; a talent that it so rare that it's nearly impossible. Now what'll happen when Alex turns from a muggle to a part-witch? And what will the Ministry of Magic decide to do about her?

44. Unexpected

I was painting, like I do usually do when I'm either thinking of something, bored, or sad. This time however, I was thinking of something. Well, it's quite obvious, I was thinking about Hogwarts, and about  everyone there, including Alex and about going there, with Jasmine. I wonder if the principle's going to let her take the next step, the next test. I got so distracted in my own thoughts that I painted with the blue color instead of the brown.

"Oh it's okay, I think the blue eyes look really good on her." I looked around to see Jasmine sitting by my side.

"How long have you been here?" I asked quite shocked.

"A while. I like watching you painting, even if it's my first full time. Well, who is she?" She asked, her voice cracking a bit, and I couldn't really tell what was that in her voice. I couldn't ask yet.

"Oh, she's Clara. Beautiful isn't she?" I looked at the painting. "But she's actually prettier in reality, you'll see her once we get to Hogwarts." It took Jasmine a while to respond, and as I looked at her I saw her jaw tighten and then she replied,

"Yeah, she's quite pretty. Say Kyle,"

"Do you-" She looked away then.

"Do I what?" I asked. I turned to my right a bit, so that I'll be completely facing her.

"N-never mind." I didn't want to push it, so I nodded and turned to the painting.

"So what happened in the principle's office?" I asked continuing my painting.

"W-what do you mean?"

"I mean, are you going to take the next test or what?"

"I'll tell you when we go to your house." I wasn't really surprised by the fact that she wanted to visit me, but I was a bit surprised by how fast our friendship grew. With Alex it was kinda slower. We were probably more careful, or not brave enough. I think Jasmine was brave, in a way. I liked that about her. So I finished my painting really fast and took it with me, I wanted to put it in my room, since I don't have any photos of Clara, only the one everyone who went to Hogwarts from Cambridge and everyone form Hogwarts was in. I put my arm around Jasmine and held the painting in the other, and we were leaving. In our way, though, we found Mr Blake.

"You're going home?" He asked.

"Yeah, is there anything else we should do for today?" I asked.

"Yes, there's a paper you should fill." We followed him and took the paper, it had one question and many options for the answer. The question was, what of the following scare you? I put a star next to the things that scared me.

Kyle Alford.

"I'm home." I said as I entered my home. "And I have a guest with me."

"Kyle, sine you're here, I'm using the bathroom, so don't come in." Carla shouted from the bathroom. Our rooms were close, so we shared a bathroom.

"Why don't you lock the door then?" I asked, standing by the bathroom's door.

"Because, I just don't want to." Jasmine giggled.

"Yup, that's my sister." I said to her. "Hey Carla where are mum and dad?"

"Dad's sleeping and mum's in the bakery, she'll be back in a minute."

"So what do you want to do?" I asked Jasmine.

"I dunno, anything." She went to my bedroom. "I really like your bedroom. It's quite cozy."

"Yeah well you won't like it when it's nighttime, it gets really creepy."

"So does darkness scare you?" She said sitting on the bed.

"Nope. Neither does my room, I'm just saying that it can be a bit creepy when you're home alone, and it's nighttime."

"Yeah." Jasmine said. I put the painting on my desk and  sat beside her, on the bed.

"So tell me about the principle."

"Well," She moved fast and laid her head on my lap. The way Clara did. It was so unexpected that I stared at her. "He said that I will be taking the next test, but if I failed it I won't go to Hogwarts." We stared at each other for a minute, and I brushed her hair with my hand.

"Well, you won't fail it." She giggled. Her giggle was so cute.

"What makes you say so?"

"Because you're strong, and because you can do it. You've already succeeded the other tests with your own ability."

"Yeah." She said. She looked distant though. "Didn't you promise to draw me?"

"Yeah, I did. Do you want to do it now?" She nodded. "Alright." She sat up and I stood to get my stuff. My pencil, colors, paintbrushes and painting notebook. I got the chair and put it by the window, where the light was in its best ways. "Sit here." She looked bothered. "Is everything okay?"

"Yeah, it's just that - I've just remembered, I wanted you to draw me in a dress, and I'm not wearing a dress now."

"Well, I can draw you again if you like. Or-" I had another idea. "See this room? The one facing us, that's Carla's room. She's got lots of dresses, go pick one. But don't let her notice, she'll get so angry." She laughed.

"Isn't that a bit mean?"

"A bit. But it's okay." Finally Jasmine went there and came back wearing a black, short dress. It was really nice. She looked so, very nice. I believe I blinked more than I had to, she laughed, blushed, closed the door behind her and then seated herself in the chair I put her. There was a moment of silence while I was drawing her, then she spoke;

"Kyle," I didn't bother to take my eyes off of the painting."Do you think I'm pretty?" Why did Jasmine always do and say unexpected things? It's really hard to deal with surprises all the time.

"Well.." I hesitated.

"Sorry.." She said. I looked at her then. Like, really looked at her, for the first time since we met. She was so close, so that I'll get all the details of her in the painting. Her lips had the color of a cherry. Her cheeks red as a spring's rose. Her eyes, wow, her eyes. Brown, lighter than the color of mine by a hue. Her hair as black as a moonless night. Her smile was perfect. The curve of her face, meeting her chin. Yes, she was beautiful. Really, really beautiful. I cleared my throat.

"No need to be sorry. You - you are quite pretty. Beautiful, really. Better looking than most girls I've met." She stood up, and walked to me. I pulled a breath, and kissed her.
