A Magical Year (Magical trilogy book #2)

*Complete* 1976 ... Last year, Alex and Kyle visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with their school. They're best friends, and more like a brother and sister. Hogwarts was not the kind of school they expected to ever visit, since it taught REAL magic. And they never expected to meet such people there, people who they'd love.
Because of this love, Alex got the ability to make some simple spells; a talent that it so rare that it's nearly impossible. Now what'll happen when Alex turns from a muggle to a part-witch? And what will the Ministry of Magic decide to do about her?

76. The Song

At night, I sneaked out with Sirius, it was almost dawn but we went out early so we can be there on time. Of course I didn't know where we were going, I had no idea. Sirius led the way, we walked together and talked only in whispers. Even as we laughed we laughed in a low-voiced giggles.

"Where are you taking me?!" I asked for the hundredth time.

"Don't you ever stop trying? I'm not gonna tell you, that's the thing about surprises, you know?"

"Oh but I hate surprises." I lied.

"You're lying." He said rising his eyebrow playfully.

"How can you tell?" He laughed.

"You're voice rises a pitch when you lie."

"No it doesn't!" I said. He laughed again,

"See, it's happening again." Then suddenly he stopped. "Shh, get down we're almost there."

We were sitting behind a rock by the lake. The moonlight reflected on the lake. The sun barely black, almost blue again. A small faint of sunlight. And Sirius by my side. The breeze was amazing, so was everything else so far.

Sirius suddenly looked at me, from toes to head. I blushed.

"Take them off."

"Excuse me?" Okay, okay. I love Sirius, but .. now? And here?

"Take your clothes off." I opened my mouth and said nothing for a while.

"I won't take them off!" Ugh, he just ruined the whole thing.

"Alex, I'll give you my shirt, but you'll need to wear something dry when we finish."

"When we finish what?!"

"Can't you tell? We're going underwater." Oh. Oh. I have no idea why we're going underwater but that's definitely better than anything hat's been in my head. I couldn't help it but laugh.

"You could've said that from the beginning! You scared the shit out of me." He laughed too.

"What did you think I was... oh my God. You make the worst girlfriend ever." We were both laughing very hard. I started taking my clothes off then, well, not all of them. Sirius did too, then he gave me something. "Eat this."

It was a green plant. "What's this?" I asked.

"Gillyweed. It'll help you breath and swim underwater."

I swallowed it and he swallowed his. It tasted horrible, but it was really useful. He jumped into the water and I followed him. He took my hand and we swam together. Apparently he was taking me somewhere. When we were finally there we stopped. There wasn't anything special in that place, it looked like anywhere else in the sea, but then as I waited.. I could see it - her- whatever. swimming with its tale, not really beautiful, but still strange. I stared at her in awe. Then there were others, many and many of them - merepeople."

"You asked about merepeople." Sirius said, his voice sounding strange under the water. Alex waved them and soon then stood side by side, and sang

"There once was a girl,

Who shone like a pearl,

Her hair bright as the sun,

She was sweet and fun.

And there was a boy,

Staring at her with joy,

That's an angel that I see,

Said the boy with glee.

Her eyes as blue as sea,

They were all he could see.

Her smile charmed any gent,

Curved like a night's crescent.

Her heart very kind,

She had a witty mind,

Her voice soft to hear,

Forces you to come near.

So they talked and went out,

And soon they had no doubt,

They were in love, it was clear,

And together they spent a year,

But that was not enough,

Parting them was really tough.

But with the touch of her lips,

The moon moved, caused an eclipse.

From him to her, his magic switched,

and turned her into a witch.

She never even needed that,

She was already charming to look at.

Her magic was enough to steal

his heart. Their love was real,

And our song is the proof,

That this guy may be a goof,

But he's a goof who's in love,

That's a thing to be proud of. "

The merepeople sounded amazing. That was really one of the best things I've ever heard. The harmony, the melody, the voices. Maybe it was the effect of singing underwater. Their voices echoed in a way they wouldn't if they sang out of the lake. I've never heard something more beautiful.

The words. They were for me. For us. They talked about us. Never in my life have I felt so touched.

By the end of the song, I couldn't clap, but I wanted to show my appreciation somehow.

"Sirius." I said my voice barely audible. I turned to the merepeople. "That was very lovely, thank you very much."

They smiled, and Sirius took my hand and we went out of the lake. After a while, I turned into myself again. Lacking the ability to breath under water.

"Sirius! What was that?" He grinned so widely that I could see nearly all his teeth.

"Did you like it?"

"Did I like it? I loved it! I felt like walking into heaven or entering a fantasy book. How did you do that, though?"

"I talked to them and gave them a poem that I, er, wrote-" He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. "And well, I asked them to sing it."

"You wrote that?!" I said and jumped at him. Kissing him very passionately. He smiled. "But you're not a goof." I giggled.

"Yeah well, I didn't write that part, they must've added it themselves." I laughed even more.

"You're the best thing that's ever happened to me, you know that?"

"And you are the best thing that's ever happened to me." He kissed me once more.

"So we're equal." I said biting my lower lip.

"Well, almost. You're boyfriend's a great person, but my girlfriend's an angel sent from heaven." I blushed too much.

"You're perfect."
