A Magical Year (Magical trilogy book #2)

*Complete* 1976 ... Last year, Alex and Kyle visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with their school. They're best friends, and more like a brother and sister. Hogwarts was not the kind of school they expected to ever visit, since it taught REAL magic. And they never expected to meet such people there, people who they'd love.
Because of this love, Alex got the ability to make some simple spells; a talent that it so rare that it's nearly impossible. Now what'll happen when Alex turns from a muggle to a part-witch? And what will the Ministry of Magic decide to do about her?

91. The Maze

Lucius and I took the turn to the right, we heard someone there. Alex. Well hello.

I pointed my wand to the ground in front of her and the boy. They couldn't see me, I cast a spell that made the solid ground shatter, they boy she was with, Sirius, and her were basically running. They're so crazy. How can you run when you're a thousand feet above the ground - the real ground, not the solid magically-air-floating thing we're walking on.

Just as she passed, the floor cracked and she almost fell. Well, shit. Sirius was already holding her hand. I think she hurt her arm, but he pulled her and she didn't fall. Well, shit. Shit, shit shit. I freaking hate her. I freaking hate killing her too.

Lucius looked at me questioningly, my frown and my head-shaking was enough for him to know she's freaking alive

"Bloody hell, you almost really fell this time." Sirius was saying. "Are you alright? Can you walk?"

"Um, yes, but I think I hurt my arm." She paused. "It's not important, we can move on."

The passed us, and they almost noticed us if we weren't well hidden.

Of course I know the maze's ending way, but I'm trying to kill the others first - well, Alex and if I'm lucky Kyle too, all I want to do with Ragnor is get rid of him.

I tried to follow Rangor, where can he be now?

Lucius suggested I go left, so we first went left, then turned to the left twice more, and we found him. By the wind-blowing ground. I knew about this, just like I knew about the rest of the maze - well informed. The thing is, Ragnor and this girl were fighting it well enough! That's not supposed to happen, he's not supposed to be strong. He was the last in the first task he can't win this one. I cast a wind-blowing spell on him, and Lucius helped me. We had their backs to us and we whispered the spells so we didn't really fear they might see us. I hope we succeed, I really do. I never thought her would be a threat.

Keep moving, Alex.

As we took the next turn to the left we found something huge flying by us, almost knocking us off. Bludgers. That's exactly their job, knocking people off. Not now, though, not here, please. I looked at Sirius and found him looking at me.

"RUN!" He shouted. Which is the only way we can avoid the Bludgers while we're basically in the sky. A thousand Bludgers were moving crazily around us. We still held hands though, it's been really helpful, so far. I guess I can't help being so slippery. This ground is so slippery.

We reached a dead end. Not like the ones we've been facing, this one's ground turned blue when we reached it and the road we took disappeared just as we reached the place. We were standing in a square, bigger than any ground we've been on in this task so far.

"Now what?" I asked Sirius.

"I guess we wait." The ground beneath me started turning green, I discovered. After a while, Katy was there too, she came out of no where, I figured that's how Sirius and I must've looked like. Appearing out of nowhere.

"How the hell did you manage reach the ending before us?!" Man, she was mad.

We kept moving forward. Then suddenly the way behind us disappeared and the ground turned red. I found Alex, Sirius, Lucius and Katy. The four of them were magic dueling.

"Hey, hey, hey. What's happening here?"  I asked.

"Shut up, muggle. Don't you get it? That's the only way to win the task. The Maze isn't the point of this task. The fight is." She turned to me. "You know what happens if you fall from here?" She asked. coming towards me.

"I might have a headache." I said sarcastically. I had no wand with me, but at least I had James, he can defend me.

"I think you should try it."

"Get away from my friend. Now." Alex warned her. Katy turned to her, but didn't move. "Get away from Kyle, or I swear to God I'll kill you, Katy." Katy turned to her, for a moment I thought she forgot she's a witch. Katy jumped on her, she had her hands around Alex's throat, trying to kill her. She then stood up, shot me with a spell and Sirius and James fought her again, then at last she turned at Alex again. Alex cast a spell on her, and she fell away.

A red light filled the place.

"What's with the red light?" I asked Sirius. I was facing the sky when I cast a spell on Katy. I was too exhausted to move my head.

"One champion's down." He answered. "Come on." I wasn't sure what he meant by that. Down, like literally. Down on the ground? Dead? Or did he or she simply not succeed in this task? I couldn't ask. I just couldn't bare to think that it might be Kyle...

I stood up, and found Katy the one missing.

Almost instantly, Lucius summoned his broomstick and flew to get her.

I wanted her dead.

That's why I pushed her.

She almost killed me, though.

I think I killed her.

I was willing to.

The tournament's turning me into a monster.

But I don't care, I don't freaking care. She almost killed Kyle.

As I looked at Lucius, I found Katy -who was now sitting on Lucius's broom- using her wand, casting a spell on Ragnor, who instantly lost his balance and fell.

Another red light.

A second later, Ragnor was nothing but a falling, helpless body. We heard the scream from Jade.

"ACCIO BROOMSTICK!" She shouted with panic. The broomstick was soon in her hands, she rode it and - well I think- she helped Ragnor not to fall and die.

She's not even supposed to fight anymore, she lost the task.

Then something else happened.

Katy turned to me.

The scene went slowly to me, as if my life started running in a slow motion. James and Sirius started casting spells on Katy, then by an accident (Ar least I think it was an accident, she seemed furious at them.) She cast a spell on me.

Come to think about it, it might not be an accident, she looked at me as she cast it.  I saw the wand's light coming towards me, I just stared at it as it hit me, throwing me away.

My back to the ground, I fell. Freaking out. Shouting Kyle's name, then Sirius's, then James's. I couldn't even curse. The adrenaline that ran through my veins seemed useless. What would I use adrenaline for when I'm falling from the sky?

Endless blueness of the sky.

I thought I was imagining, but Sirius jumped after me. Willingly. What was he doing? I was dying, he can't do anything about it. Did he think I want him to die with me? No, I don't want anyone else dying. Especially not Sirius. Especially not for me. For a moment while I was falling, I saw my life, the every moment of it. There were many pictures of my parents, of Kyle, of Max, of Clara and Lara. Of my school friends, of all the good and bad days. Of my so-called father. My eyes rolled. Then the blue sky turned black, and so did everything else.
