A Magical Year (Magical trilogy book #2)

*Complete* 1976 ... Last year, Alex and Kyle visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with their school. They're best friends, and more like a brother and sister. Hogwarts was not the kind of school they expected to ever visit, since it taught REAL magic. And they never expected to meet such people there, people who they'd love.
Because of this love, Alex got the ability to make some simple spells; a talent that it so rare that it's nearly impossible. Now what'll happen when Alex turns from a muggle to a part-witch? And what will the Ministry of Magic decide to do about her?

52. Strange

It's Tuesday. I have Apparition classes in both Fridays and Tuesdays. I just had Arithmancy and was running, trying to be in the classroom on time. I met my friends there, since none of them shared my Friday's Defence class.

"You're here in time." Clara said.

Panting I answered. "Yeah, I had to do some running though." I hope I wasn't sweating. That would be the last thing I needed.

"Come here." Clara said laughing. She started braiding my hair, it must've been too messy.

"Thank you."

Soon the class started. Sirius winked me as he got in, and sat in the front desks, with the other three marauders.

Nothing was really new, I guess the class was just for training this time. That's exactly what I needed, training. I have no time at all, and in my free time, I don't usually train for apparating.

I started remembering the three d's: destination, determination, deliberation. Concentrate. Concentrate, Alex. I had to do this now. This wasn't my first class, I've been taking many classes, and if I couldn't apparate this time, I'd stop the classes. I breathed in, and out.

I saw my destination, it was the Great Hall's doors. I was really determined to reach it. Easy, now ... take your time. Deliberate.

Something felt funny. The wind, probably, a strange chill. It didn't last long, it was strange and fast. I opened my eyes with a shriek.

I wasn't by the Great Hall's door.

But I did apparete. I was meters away from the place I first was in.

"Oh my god! You did it!" Max said. I wasn't even aware that I had an audience. I nodded, many times. Once I turned to face them, I found Sirius running towards me, and soon I found myself in his arms.

"I'm so proud of my student." He said. I laughed.

"I can't believe it." I whispered.

"Alright, what's going on here?" The Instructor said.

"I-" I said and paused to laugh, letting go of Sirius. "Nothing major, I just managed to apparate."

"Really? Well, good job!" He said proudly. "I wasn't expecting that, honestly." His eyebrows were raised, and he looked at me admirably, then turned away.

"I should go to professor Dumbledore." I told Sirius.

After I said the password to the office stairs and went up, I knocked the door of professor Dumbledore's office.

"Come in." I heard him saying. He was talking to someone, however. Professor Slughorn.

"Ah, Alex Cross." I smiled. "I think we'll have to delay this conversation professor Slughorn, if you don't mind of course." He said nodding his head toward professor Slughorn, and standing up. Professor Slughorn nodded and said,

"Not at all. Excuse me." As he walked past me.

"I hope it wasn't urgent." I said, feeling a bit guilty.

"Not at all. I told you before that you'd be welcomed anytime." He smiled and sat down. "Now, tell me. What brings you here?"

"Umm, you once told me to tell you about anything strange happens with me, right? So, umm, today I apparated - only for a few meters, it wasn't like other people's apparitions, but yeah, still." Professor Dumbledore went silent for a while, that I thought of leaving, but then he talked;

"You know, when you told me about the limits in flying that you faced, it occurred to me that maybe, possibly, you will be able to apparate. Now apparating isn't really an easy thing, you know. I would've been so surprised to hear that from you if only I didn't know of the magic powers you have. Allow me to ask you, what was the destination that you had in your mind?"

"The Great Hall's doors."

"That's it. Your destination wasn't that far. Sit down Alex."

Alright. I sat on the chair professor Slughorn was sitting on.

"Normally, if you're a wizard or a witch by birth, in apparating, you have to imagine the place you want to go to and make sure you have the three D's in your mind to go there. But, since you're not a witch by birth, and not completely a witch, but half a witch, the distance of your destination will be the half of it. What that means, is that you'll reach half the distance to the destination you have in your mind and willing to reach. In your case, it'll be a bit harder. You'll have to imagine not the destination you want to reach, but half the distance of it, after it. Do you understand?"

I really wanted to say yes, since it was professor Dumbledore, and I really liked to impress him, but I couldn't, his words were kinda too complicated for me to understand. As simple as they were, I just couldn't get them.

"No, sir. Not really." I said lamely.

"I'll give you an example. Let's say that you're in the Great Hall and want to dissapparate to apparate by the doors. And let's say the distance between you and the door was ten meters. When you want to apparate you have to imagine the place after the doors -which is the Entrance Hall- by five meters -which is half the distance to the doors itself- Does it make it any easier?"

Half the distance after the determination.

"Oh." I said getting the image clearer in my mind. I get it now." Professor Dumbledore nodded.

"But I'm sure you'll be mastering it in no time. You're such a bright witch, Alex Cross."

"Thank you professor. I appreciate it." Another moment of silence.

"Well, if anything else interesting happened, keep me in touch, alright?" I nodded. Thanking the professor again, I left his office.

"Woah." Sirius said as I told him about what professor Dumbledore told me.

"It'll be harder, but I have to manage to do it. Apparting and Disapparating is important after all, isn't it.

"Very important." He looked at me then, like really looked at me. "It's been a while since we last sat together like this. Not in a classroom, and not surrounded by others. It's been a while since I last admired how beautiful you are."

There, he's caused me to blush again. I bit my lips.

"I miss you, and even that I don't have time to even breathe, I'm always doing my best to find some time for you." I said honestly.

"We have some time now, right?" I nodded. "Then let's do something."

"Like what?"

"I don't know, talk-" He got closer. "walk- kiss-" He said asking with his eyes, and I let him kiss me, I just closed my eyes and let him do it. Allowing myself to kiss back. It's the second week at Hogwarts and I'm already tired. I need Sirius, who always gives me strength. I need his confidence to get me steady, I need his courage to get me brave, and I need his love, to soften the rough part of my personality. To awake my emotions, and race my heart.

At last I smiled, and we went for in the grounds.
