A Magical Year (Magical trilogy book #2)

*Complete* 1976 ... Last year, Alex and Kyle visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with their school. They're best friends, and more like a brother and sister. Hogwarts was not the kind of school they expected to ever visit, since it taught REAL magic. And they never expected to meet such people there, people who they'd love.
Because of this love, Alex got the ability to make some simple spells; a talent that it so rare that it's nearly impossible. Now what'll happen when Alex turns from a muggle to a part-witch? And what will the Ministry of Magic decide to do about her?

27. Rubber Ducks

Kyle's P.O.V

I was in my home when I received a letter from Ally's owl. I opened it and read it, I wanted to reply to it. I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen, and started writing her.

Dear Ally,

I miss you so much! Everything's okay in here. Cambridge's still the same boring not-Hogwarts school. You should really tell me more about this whole working thing, because it needs lots of talking. And yes, you are stupid. :P

Many people talk about us, because of what you now are, there have been some rumors everywhere in the school, but as far as I know, no body knows the truth, and let's keep it this way, it's safer. I've made a new friend who's told me all about this, because believe me, I wouldn't have found out about that by myself. Her name's Jasmine, and she's a senior. I don't know if you know her of not, but she's good.

The principal's told us about this yesterday! I got all excited, but I'm not really sure if I'll be able to come Ally. Sorry, but as much as I want to come, it's really REALLY hard to be selected to go to Hogwarts. The school's so strict about this. Maybe it's rules from Hogwarts, I'm not sure. I don't even know what makes them so strict about it, it's just a long trip right? I'll do my best to come, but I don't assure you that I will.

PS: Tell Clara that I miss her more! I think about her everyday. And Ally keep her happy for me, won't you? :)

My phone started ringing, and it was Jasmine.

"Hey Kyle." She started.

"Oh hey Jasmine."

"Whatcha doin'?" She asked.

"Nothing much, just writing Ally a letter."

"Oh." She sounded disappointed. "So, you're busy?"

"No, is there anything you want to talk about?" I asked. Folding the paper and putting it in my owl's feet.

"No I just needed to talk to a friend, and - I kinda instantly thought of you." I smiled.

So we chatted for a while. I hadn't lots of things to do, so it wasn't that important. Actually, spending time talking or chilling with my friends and family's always the most important thing for me to do in a day. And time spent with them, is never wasted.

I enjoyed that phone call.

Alex's P.O.V

I walked into the Muggle Studies class. A professor walked in with a rubber duck in his hand. Really? A rubber duck?

"G-good afternoon. M-my name is professor Q-quirrell and I will be teaching you M-muggle Studies. Now-" His eyes fell on me. "Y-you're Alex Cross." He seemed -if possible- less confident. "Why, you're a muggle. T-that's good. You probably could help us with this class. Since you know everything about muggles."

"Umm, yes, professor. I'll do my best." I said.

"So now, we'll talk about something, that many wizards have wondered and thought about. Muggles. Muggles are to some people, terrifying. T-to others they are, weak." He avoid the eye contact with me, and his eyes never met mine. "And to some, they must be - illuminated. Killed. But let's keep that as a secret between us. Some people r-really love muggles, a-and respect them. And l-let's hope that we all here belong to th-this type of people." He said smiling a little. His smile was horrible.

Professor Quirrel kept on talking about Muggles, and mostly he said true things. But then he held up the rubber duck so that everyone would see it,

"This is called the rubber duck. Now because we don't usually c-communicate with muggles that much, there's been a question in the wizards minds, e-especially the ones who study Muggle Studies. What is exactly the function of the rubber duck? Because muggles bath with rubber ducks, and we have no idea why they do so. Any suggestions?" He smiled that horrible smile once again. And every eye in the classroom was on me. Oh God! No. Really slowly I started raising my hand, and it took professor Quirrell a while to notice me. "Oh." He said excitedly when he did.

"Umm, I guess that -" I suddenly stood up. Why was I shy, these are some great wizards but know nothing about muggles. And that's such an easy question. It's about rubber ducks. It's so silly! "Oh come on." I suddenly said getting all confident. "I mean, look at this duck. Isn't it the cutest thing ever? And beside, rubber ducks make voices if you sqeeze them-" I stood up and went to the table and held the rubber duck. "Like this." And the duck made its silly small voice. The amazement and the whole "Wow" reaction that I got from the students was hilarious that I actually started laughing a bit. "See, and you call what we do in the other classes magic." Some people laughed. I felt like I was in Monsters Inc movie, when everyone got amazed and yet frightened just by finding "real people's" stuff around. It felt like I was Boo coming from a different, and frightening, yet amazing world. "So, back to the function of it. Don't you feel lonely while taking a bath? And baths take so much time sometimes, and it gets you to start thinking, that I want to have someone with me. And you can't just have someone with you, you're bathing! So,  A RUBBER DUCK's a good suggestion for a company. It floats on the water, and it listens to you intently, no matter how much you talked. And it's cute. So, in my opinion, that's the function of the rubber duck." I said simply. Everyone started applauding for me, and I thanked them, sitting down finally.
