A Magical Year (Magical trilogy book #2)

*Complete* 1976 ... Last year, Alex and Kyle visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with their school. They're best friends, and more like a brother and sister. Hogwarts was not the kind of school they expected to ever visit, since it taught REAL magic. And they never expected to meet such people there, people who they'd love.
Because of this love, Alex got the ability to make some simple spells; a talent that it so rare that it's nearly impossible. Now what'll happen when Alex turns from a muggle to a part-witch? And what will the Ministry of Magic decide to do about her?

56. Packing

We're leaving tomorrow.

The whole idea of me returning to Hogwarts feels like a dream. Many things happened during the previous month, I've tried having a life without friends in my school - or actually, without Alex. The thing is, Alex and I, we filled each other's lives, not in the creepy way, but we were each other's best friends, and it got us all busy so we were never anyone else's best friends. We didn't mind it, though. We had each other and it was enough for us.

Going to Hogwarts did change us, in many ways. It was only a month, and it's crazy when you think about it. It's crazy how fast people can change, no matter if it was for the worst or for the best.

When Alex got sorted in Ravenclaw and I got sorted in Gryffindor we were both surprised, at first. Alex and I are so similar in our own way, I honestly never thought of not being in the same house of hers. Maybe we're too similar because we grew up together. They say when you grow up with someone, you grow to be just like them. We still have our own different personalities, though, and I don't mind it. In fact I find it quite cool. When we were parted in Hogwarts, we were forced to make some new friends. We were lucky enough to find the most amazing students at Hogwarts as our friends. But that was Hogwarts, and Alex and I were in the same country then.

When Alex went to Hogwarts this year, it was all stranger. I had to make some more friends, which was my high score of my lifetime. More than 1 new friend in a year. I found Jasmine, and she was so good and sweet at first, why did she have to change that much. Not only did she change, but she left me with a storm of emotions that I can't really sort. I -kinda- cheated on Clara with her, if you consider kissing cheating. I'm not gonna lie, I regret it sometimes, but when I remember how good it felt..

Why couldn't she just be my friend?!

I started at the ceiling and thought about it all before deciding that I should actually start packing now. I'd use some help, but from whom? Mom? Dad? Carla? None would be too helpful, for me.

So I finally stood up and started packing, I put nearly all of my shirts and all of my pants, I was looking for my Hogwarts robes when the bell rang.

"Kyle, go get it!" Mum yelled from her room. So I went to the door and opened it.

You can't imagine how surprised I was to see Jasmine there.

I was sitting alone in my dorm, reading a book as usual, then came Alex. She looked strange, unlike herself. Either she was pale or it was the effect of the light, but she definitely was upset or shocked about something. When I asked her what was wrong with her, her response was,

"I saw something weird today in the lake. At first I thought it was someone, but then it saw me too and it immediately dived into the water again. Do you think there could be - what're they called - mermaids?"

I thought about it for a while and then answered,

"Well, I've heard about them once, and I've read about them in a book - a fantasy novel actually, so I don't know. Some people say they exist, but I'm not sure I believe them. Why, do you think you saw one?"

She hesitated before answering.

"I don't know, well maybe I thought I saw it. Maybe it was a person after all, it wasn't really good looking and mermaids are supposed to be really charming, right? Anyway, what's new?"

"Your school's students are arriving tomorrow." I said. I have been thinking about this for a while, and it's been keeping my mind off of my reading. I read half a page and then I think about it all over. I didn't know it by myself, of course. Professor Flitwick told me so by a chance.

"I don't even know who's coming." She replied. I sighed.

"I really hoped that Kyle would make it, you know." She sat next to me and patted my back.

"I know. I did too." She said. "At least you've got me." She joked trying to make me laugh, and she succeeded.

"Well, no offence Alex, but you're not really a person I'd want to kiss."

"I'm a great kisser!" She joked. I laughed at her reaction.

"You may be, I don't know, but I need a guy!"

Our conversation was interrupted by Max, who just entered the dorm.

"Guess what?" She said, "The guests are arriving tomorrow."

"We know, we were just talking about it." Alex said.

"Honestly Max, you need to be more up-to-date." I said laughing a bit.

"What? More up-to-date? It's not a fashion trend, and besides, were you two talking about this? Because you look like you've just been thinking about kissing each other and discussing it." She seated herself in the other bed, facing us.

"What the-? Were you eavesdropping or something?"

"No, I'm just a witch, and I can read your minds." She stack her tongue out. "Continue whatever you were saying."

"I was just going to tell Clara that Kyle can be such a girl sometimes." I laughed at that.

"And what exactly makes you say so?" and I heard Max murmur something like, "Girl's talk." Under her breath. Completely ignoring her, Alex answered.

"He paints my nails sometimes. And I swear he does it better than me."

"How come?" I asked, still laughing. I couldn't put a picture of a nail-polish-painting-Kyle in my head. It was funny.

"Well, maybe it's just because he's very good at painting and drawing." I raised my eyebrows, he is? "Ask him to draw you, next time you meet him."

"When will this next time be, though?" I sighed.

"Well, since we're talking about boys, it's almost new moon, if I discovered in the middle of the night, don't panic, I'd be with Remus."

"You've been spending so much time with the marauders, is it just because of Remus?"

"I want to become a werewolf."

We fought a lot, after she said that. Why she never told us before, why she didn't even ask for our opinion. At last all was well, but the dorm was not, it was so messy because of all of the pillows and clothes we threw at each other.

"Next time, Max Rosiel, when you decide to make such a huge decision, tell us about it. I'm not even telling you to ask for our opinion anymore, just tell us about it." Alex said at last.
