A Magical Year (Magical trilogy book #2)

*Complete* 1976 ... Last year, Alex and Kyle visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with their school. They're best friends, and more like a brother and sister. Hogwarts was not the kind of school they expected to ever visit, since it taught REAL magic. And they never expected to meet such people there, people who they'd love.
Because of this love, Alex got the ability to make some simple spells; a talent that it so rare that it's nearly impossible. Now what'll happen when Alex turns from a muggle to a part-witch? And what will the Ministry of Magic decide to do about her?

17. Jobs in the Wizarding World

Alex's P.O.V

It's my third day at Hogwarts. I just had breakfast in the Great Hall and decided to go to professor Flitwick to see if he can help me decide my whole career life thing. I wasn't sure what I wanted to be, I wasn't even sure if I wanted to work in the muggles' world or in the wizards', or if I was even allowed to work in the wizarding world. Clara volunteered to come with me, and since Max already went to professor Flitwick's office yesterday she didn't want to come again today. She stayed with Remus, they were talking about something.

We were in our way to his office, and I had so many things in my mind, and I was kinda nervous, about this whole decision. Okay, so I have to take this decision, and I really have to be fast. I should probably tell my mother and Kyle about it, I should Probably write for them after I finish talking to professor Flitwick.

We reached his office door, and I was silent this whole time and didn't say a word. My hands were almost shaking, and I didn't trust myself to raise them and start knocking the door, so Clara as if reading my mind, did.

"Oh hello girls." He said welcoming in, and he seated himself if the chair behind his desk. Two other chairs were there, and so as we got in, we sat there. "So, Alex, have you decided what you want to do?" He asked. When he sat down, I noticed how short he was, yes, it was cruel, but I just couldn't help thinking like that.

"No, not really. Professor, can you suggest me a couple of jobs that I can do in the wizarding world?"

Professor Flitwick told me about some strange jobs in the wizarding world, things like an Auror, Curse Breaker, Dragonologist, Magizoologist, Obliviator and a Hit Wizard.

"You can also work as a healer, an actor, an author and some of the jobs that muggles do. Now you should also keep in your mind that you can work in some places like, here at Hogwarts, the Leaky Cauldron, Hogwarts Express, the Ministry of Magic -although I'm not absolutely sure that you'll be welcomed there easily-  Owl Post Office, Auror office, st Mungo Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries, the Knight Bus, Wizarding Wireless Network and the International Confederation of Wizards."

The last place got my attention, its name was catchy. Mostly I like everything international, so I asked him about the International Confederation of Wizards.

"Well, its headed by a person called a supreme mugwump. People who work there discuss wizarding things with other wizards from all around the world. Mostly things they discuss are muggles' related."

I kinda liked that. I really did. But I wasn't sure what I liked more, being a healer, a matron, or a member of the International Confederation of Wizards. Some of the other jobs seemed really cool, like wand making and broom making, but I really felt that they were really hard for my magical skills, I needed something simpler. Something that I could use my brain and my thinking in it. Some of the jobs required physical strength or great courage, and I don't think I'd consider myself as a very strong girl physically. I mean, I'm not that weak, but I'm not considered strong, no. So that actually helped me a bit. I wasn't going to be an Auror, or a caretaker, or a Dragonologist, or a  Magizoologist.

I didn't want to work in the Leaky Cauldron, or in Hogwarts Express. The only places I liked to work in were here in Hogwarts, or in the International Confederation of Wizards.

I don't also want to do the muggles' jobs in the wizarding world, like being an author or a musician or whatever. If I wanted to work as some of these things, I'd go to the muggles' world, and be around mum and Kyle thank you very much.

Did I want to work in the wizarding world away from them? Did I?

"I think I'd either be a Marton, or a professor or a member or the International Confederation of Wizards. Well either one of these, or a job in the muggles' world." I said at last.

"Alright, then let's see ... your timetable must require many classes, and it's going to be a bit hard, are you ready for this?" He asked. I paused for a moment and he added, "Actually, it was also a wish from professor Dumbledore that you take as much classes as possible, and that's what I think too. You'll be studying magic for only a year, and you should learn about - everything really." So I started nodding. Clara on my left was silent, and I started wondering if she started getting bored or not.

Professor Flitwick swished his wand and a piece of parchment appeared out of nowhere. He then gave me a pen and told me to write what he said, and I wrote down my timetable. It indeed had many classes, and it was nearly full. I had the same classes that I had last year, like;

Flying, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Muggles Studies, Transfiguration, Divination, Charms, History of Magic, Herbology, Potions, Astronomy and Ancient Runes.

But it also had some classes that I didn't use to take last year, like;

Ghoul Studies, Alchemi and Magic Basics.

"Now there is no professor that can teach you Magic Basics, because there is no such a subject. But it's just for you, since you're half a muggle and don't know a lot of things about magic. So you can either ask one of the professors to help you with this, or you can just ask one of your friends, but a smart one, because there will be exams and you will need a good teacher.

Now what I also want to tell you is that there will also be some classes called Apparition classes,"

"Yeah, I'll be taking them." Was the thing Clara said after all of her silence.

"Good. They're really helpful. I'm not sure if you'll be able to apparate or not, but I guess we'll have to see and you'll have to try. Apparition is a kind of magic that gives you the ability to transport to another place that you have in your mind, without needing your broomstick, in case you don't know. So if you had the ability of doing it, it would be really useful so make sure you sign up for the apparition classes. I will tell you about the classes dates later. Now do you need anything else?" He asked with a smile.

"No, not for now. But thank you a lot, professor. Really." I said as I stood up, instantly followed by Clara.

Professor Flitwick led us to the door and we left his office.

"Well, that was interesting." Clara said.

"Interesting? I think 'really makes a person nervous' is the word." Clara stopped walking and raised an eyebrow.

"You call yourself a Ravenclaw? That is a sentence, not a word." I laughed and took her hand.

"Anyway, thanks for your patience."
