A Magical Year (Magical trilogy book #2)

*Complete* 1976 ... Last year, Alex and Kyle visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with their school. They're best friends, and more like a brother and sister. Hogwarts was not the kind of school they expected to ever visit, since it taught REAL magic. And they never expected to meet such people there, people who they'd love.
Because of this love, Alex got the ability to make some simple spells; a talent that it so rare that it's nearly impossible. Now what'll happen when Alex turns from a muggle to a part-witch? And what will the Ministry of Magic decide to do about her?

85. Halloween

The next day, we took our classes and were really excited for the feast. The boys told me how good it will be and I really got excited. It's my first Halloween feast ever. And the last one too. I kinda am thankful for the tournament, at least it got me to come to Hogwarts again. Meet my friends, see the magic and basically - just be here. Being here is one of the best things that's ever happened to me.

I mean, I'm a muggle in the wizarding world. Of course it gets a bit depressing sometimes, being a muggle and all, but I don't really feel like a muggle anymore, and I don't feel like being a muggle is a bad thing. Last year, I used to feel like I'm a muggle almost all the time, but now, it isn't such a bad hing.

I can be a muggle and still be a Marauder. I can be a muggle and still go to Hogwarts for a while. I can be a muggle and still know about magic and live with wizards and everything. Being a muggle isn't that bad, it doesn't make me less good, it just makes me stranger than they are.

Of course I wish I was a wizard, but I don't really hate being a muggle that much. Not anymore.

When we went to the Great Hall, we were surprised by the great decorations of it. The pumpkins we brought from Hagrid's place yesterday were up in the sky, floating. They were crafted, not in the normal way. Each pumpkin presented a magical creature, or a beast. There were Centaurs, Hippogriffs, Unicorns, and many other things. Finding what the pumpkins were was a bit hard, they only presented the creatures' heads and it's not that easy to discover for exacmple if it's a Hippogriff or if it's simply an eagle. The boys and I kept on trying to tell what each pumpkin was crafted like. It was actually quite fun, but of course I didn't know all the creatures in the magical world so I wasn't mastering this.

In addition to the floating pumpkins, bats filled the sky. They didn't only fill the sky, they actually landed each once in a while on someone's head. A bat landed on Max's head, which scared the hell out of her, and caused all of us to laugh. The girls all decided to join our table, like usual.

Five huge pumpkins were set behind the professors' seats. They weren't naturally huge so I figured they've probably enlarged them somehow - by magic of course.

The four tables were all full of food. Nearly everything was made of pumpkin! Things I never knew would be cooked with pumpkin. Pumpkin juice, pumpkin pies, dried pumpkin, cooked pumpkin, everything-pumpkin! Also, sweets. There were lots and lots of sweets, and what I wasn't really expecting, apples. The thing about the food in Hogwarts is, it's all strange and yet everything tasted good! Even better than good, everything tastes amazing.

There were also about four huge bowls of water. It took me a while to realize what was in them. Snakes. Water snakes. The Hall looked absolutely creepy- but in the best way.

The best part, though, was the show.

We were eating, each one of us telling whatever scary stories they have, we were all listening carefully when a head came out of our table. We all shouted and gasped. It was horrifying, we weren't expecting that! Our house's ghost, Nearly Headless Neck, started laughing.

"It works every time!" He said. Soon, we joined him and laughed at our own reaction. Right after that, ghosts filled the place. Some trying to be creepy and making voices, wooing and booing. Doing their best to be the typical creepy ghosts. They weren't always like this, but they were both creepy and funny, and I liked it. This Halloween was really fun.

Right after that, the ghosts were supposed to make a show, so the ghosts decided to act a play. It was Shakespeare's famous Macbeth. They probably picked this one because there were three witches in the story. I'm almost sure Mr. Blake or one of our teachers helped them with their choice.

Seeing ghosts act the play was way cooler that seeing actual people playing it. Thee nuns, "They're called the Gloomy nuns." James told me, played the three witches. The Fat Friar was Duncan, Nearly headless neck was Macbeth, Lord Draben was Malcolm, and the Grey Lady was Lady Macbeth. The other ghosts played the other unimportant as much parts. Most of them were actually great actors and actresses! Maybe it's a thing about being a ghost, they got more dramatic. The play was really much better played than usual. My favorite part was the song the witches sang to Macbeth. In plays mostly, it's just a spell, but the nuns sang it. In simple English.

"Round and round our cauldron go,

In the magic mixture throw.

Poison from a toad I got

Throw that first into a pot.

Double, double, double trouble,

fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Here's a slice of slimy snake

In the cauldron boil and bake.

Eye of fly and toe of frog

claw of bat and ear of dog.

snake's poisoned tongue and cruel wasp's sting,

Lizard's leg and young owl's wing.

For a spell of powerful trouble,

fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Skin of dragon, wolf's sharp claw,

Bone from a dead witch's jaw,

Stomach of man-eating shark

Poisoned plants, picked in the dark.

Mix the soup and stir it well

To make the magic of our spell.

We will double all your trouble,

fire burn and cauldron bubble.

Cool it with some monkey's blood

The the spell is firm and good.

By the pricking of my thumbs

Something wicked this way comes!"

It was only when professor Slughorn said, "Try to remember the ingredients they used, it would be good for our Dark-spells-potions class." that I remembered it's not a very unusual thing for wizards. They always brew potions. I actually laughed at that, and as I looked around me for support, I only found Alex there, laughing like me. She looked at me and found me laughing, which cause us to laugh even more. I loved this thing about our friendship, we laugh about the same things. It's nice to have someone who understands even your unspoken jokes.

~Author's Note~

Hey guys, how're you doing? I hope I'm not disappointing you with my laziness and un-updateness (Okay I just made that word up, but who cares?!) It's just that I'm getting super busy, I barely even have time to read.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that, and also, I hope you didn't really mind me putting that poem from Macbeth, it was long but, well I like it and I think it suited the chapter =)

Hope you liked it.

I love you all. <3
