A Magical Year (Magical trilogy book #2)

*Complete* 1976 ... Last year, Alex and Kyle visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with their school. They're best friends, and more like a brother and sister. Hogwarts was not the kind of school they expected to ever visit, since it taught REAL magic. And they never expected to meet such people there, people who they'd love.
Because of this love, Alex got the ability to make some simple spells; a talent that it so rare that it's nearly impossible. Now what'll happen when Alex turns from a muggle to a part-witch? And what will the Ministry of Magic decide to do about her?

37. Draught of Living Death

Ruby was the best of us -muggles- last year in brewing Potions. I think Katy used to say she was even better than some of the wizard students. But since I became half a witch this year, my skills in almost everything at Hogwarts's got better. I feel like Ruby sometimes in potions classes.

I think can do this.

As I looked at Lara, I saw how much she wanted the potion too. I could see it by the way she look at the cauldron Felix Felicis was in.

Can I really do this?

I opened my book and started looking at the ingredients in front of me. Okay. I should do this. I followed the instructions carefully. The potions was probably the hardest I've ever made. It was so complicated, and the classroom got really hot because of the cauldrons' heat. At a time, I was so confused and didn't know what to do. The fire was on, and I got so nervous. What to do? What to do?! The potion didn't look as it was supposed to look. I reread the instructions and discovered that I've done a mistake. I looked at the others, some looked as horrible as me, some looked worse, and some, like Lara and about three other boys looked just fine. In fact they looked more than fine, everything was probably going perfect for them.

Oh god. I finally decided to continue following the instructions as they are, and not too soon I was finished. I took several breaths, and brushed my hair with my fingers.

"I never got to thank you for the covering up." I told Lara.

"What? After the Love potion question?" I nodded. "Oh it's nothing. I know how embarrassing it is, to have everyone in the room sharing the scents you love." I wondered what that could mean, but didn't ask.

"Well thank you anyway."

"No need." Lara asked."How was it? The Draught of Living Death I mean."

"Exhausting!" I said honestly, fanning my hot red face with my hand. "Mine's a disaster."

"I'm not sure about mine either. But it was fun, wasn't it."

I wasn't really sure if it was fun, but thankfully professor Slughorn started talking and we all gave him our attention.

"I think you should all be done by now. Now I'll be testing the potions, to see whose the best is." He started walking to each one of us, examining our potions. He was indeed pleased by Lara's so much, so was he by one of the other three boys who looked confident while making the potion. As he reached me, I noticed that my palms were starting to sweat.

"Hmm, forgot to add the Valerian root didn't you?"

"Yes sir." I said.

"Well, other than that it's pretty good, Cross." He smiled and went to the other students. I immediately let out a breath. Maybe it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but I'm still not positive about winning Felix. "Good job everyone. All of the potions that you made weren't really bad, but I have to admit, Patel's and Mason's were the best." The boy -whose last name was apparently Mason- and Lara looked at each other proudly. "Cross also did a great job herself. But only one of them will be the winner of Felix Felicis. And the winner will be ..." Okay so it's not me. "Lara Patel." I started clapping for her. Even if I didn't win the potion, I wanted didn't want Mason to win it, I wanted Lara to.

But I can't help feeling of this tiny bit of jealousy. After all, I wanted the potion so bad.

At the cafeteria, we found the announcement of the names of the students who were chosen to continue the tests. Very fast I started reading the names.

The Next Test Will Not Be in the Gym.

The Sixteen Students Must Go to the Buses at 9:00

For the third time this week, I found my name in the list of the selected. Jasmine jumped to hug me, and I remembered Ruby's words. Screw her words, I want to hug my friend.

"I just can't believe it." I said.

"Me neither!" Said Jasmine excitedly.

Later when it was 9:00 we went to the buses as we were ordered to go to. There we found Mr Brooks and Miss Holly and we got in the bus they were in. As the other fourteen students got in, miss Holly said,

"Alright now, this test won't be as like the previous one, it will be a bit different from it. I will not tell you where we're going, but I must give you an advice. Be kind."
