A Magical Year (Magical trilogy book #2)

*Complete* 1976 ... Last year, Alex and Kyle visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with their school. They're best friends, and more like a brother and sister. Hogwarts was not the kind of school they expected to ever visit, since it taught REAL magic. And they never expected to meet such people there, people who they'd love.
Because of this love, Alex got the ability to make some simple spells; a talent that it so rare that it's nearly impossible. Now what'll happen when Alex turns from a muggle to a part-witch? And what will the Ministry of Magic decide to do about her?

64. Childhood Nicknames

It's Wednesday. As I woke up and looked at the other girls' beds, I noticed that I may have overslept. No one was still in bed; not even Max. It wasn't really that bad, for I hadn't any classes before fourth period, but I hate waking up late.

I went to the Great Hall and found everyone there, sitting together as usual.

"There she is." Max said. "Told you, she's getting worse than me."

"Oh no Max, no one's worse than you when it comes to oversleeping. I think we should make a competition between you and Wormtail, and I doubt he'd win over you." Remus said. We laughed, and Max elbowed him.

We talked for a while, and everything was quite ordinary, things only got just a tiny bit strange when Alex said she had to go to her Herbology class. She was sitting next to Kyle, and while everyone else was busy talking about Professor Slughorn I heard the two of them talking in a way I've never heard them do.

"Well, you called me Ky yesterday." I heard Kyle saying to her.

"It kind of slipped out of my mouth somehow. I've forgotten all about that nickname, you know. It's kinda sad that I don't use it anymore."

"You can always use it if you want." He said. He sounded - disappointed by her answer.

"But it would feel funny, wouldn't it? Living the past again? Our childhood."

"Hey, I gave you your nickname when we were just little kids and I still use it now."

"I know but, not calling you by it for ages and then suddenly calling you by it again?"

The whole chat wasn't that strange, but the way they were talking, almost in whispers, as if they were afraid someone might hear them, or the way Kyle wanted Alex to call him Ky so bad, or the way she was afraid of calling him by that name again. That was strange. It felt like, they had a history together. Not just as friends. Maybe they liked each other as kids.

It kinda felt stupid and silly of me to think about it, even if there had been something between the two of them, they're just friends now, and I should trust Kyle with that. But the conversation gave me a strange, unpleasant feeling. It made me realize how much I'm unaware of Kyle's history.

Sure, I shouldn't really know that much about his history, and why would I? The past's in the past, what's happeneds already happened and what's gone's gone. However, admittedly, it made me feel curious and it may also have given me the slightest amount of jealousy. Kyle and Alex were supposed to have always been friends, and if they were something else, I would've liked if Kyle told me about it.

Of course, they were just children, but some feelings don't really fade away.

As they finished their conversation, I managed to fake a smile and act as if I've been listening to the others complaining about professor Slughorn all along. Hey, I might not be an actress, but I am an expert when it comes to faking smiles.

I was asked to get into the room. No one else was there but me, him and a couple of deatheaters.

I was shaking all over, but I put my hands together in order to make it less visible. I cleared my throat making sure not to do it too loud.

"You asked to see me, my lord?" I asked, my voice was shaking. That wasn't a good sign. I need to hold myself together.

"Yes, my dear. You see, I was just telling the others that I'm sadly starting to question your loyalty to me. You promised me things and you still haven't made them happen. Also, your process is taking so much time, are you really trying to do what I've asked you to do?" His snake circled him as he spoke, and when I talked, it circled me instead, causing me to get even more nervous.

"Yes, of course I am, my lord. It's just that - it's not as a simple plan as it might seem for you, my lord. You see, you're much more greater than I am, and much more powerful, so it can be a bit harder for me to do it in the same time you're expecting me to do it - that doesn't mean I'm trying to make it in time, but it just means that it might take some more time than expected.

"As for my promise, my lord. Well, it wasn't really me who didn't keep her word, it was my sister. She did her best, but she wasn't allowed to come and join me. That made my plan even harder, my lord. But I swear I'll find another way. I have a plan, my lord. And I'm pretty sure it will make you proud when done."
