A Magical Year (Magical trilogy book #2)

*Complete* 1976 ... Last year, Alex and Kyle visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with their school. They're best friends, and more like a brother and sister. Hogwarts was not the kind of school they expected to ever visit, since it taught REAL magic. And they never expected to meet such people there, people who they'd love.
Because of this love, Alex got the ability to make some simple spells; a talent that it so rare that it's nearly impossible. Now what'll happen when Alex turns from a muggle to a part-witch? And what will the Ministry of Magic decide to do about her?

"I think - you should be the one speaking first Ben." He laughed.

"Alex Cross. The decade's miracle. Half a muggle, half a witch. She was turned into this by a kiss with a boy called Sirius Black. She goes to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Everyone knows that!"

"Everyone in the wizarding world!" Alex said. "Not here!"

"Okay, okay." I put my hand on my head. Now was the worst time for a headache. "I should probably close the windows. We don't want the whole neighborhood to know my daughter's half a witch." I started closing the house's windows and made sure the door was locked. I went back to them and waited for them to talk.

"I wanted to tell you, I really did, but now felt like it was too early. I feared you'd dumb me or not believe me or think I'm mad, but you're daughter's a witch so you do know about the wizarding world." He paused and took a breath. "Jane, I'm a wizard."

It's a good thing I was in my seat, I would have probably fainted if I wasn't.

"I saw you in Ted and Johanna's wedding. I couldn't tell you about that when I met you again in the market because well, to have met you in the wedding would mean I knew Johanna and to say I know Johanna would mean I'm a wizard. I couldn't tell you all about that.

Of course when I saw you at the wedding I thought that maybe you know about the wizarding world, but after thinking about it, I thought, well, maybe she doesn't really know anything about the bride and she's just here for the groom. Maybe, she knows nothing about the wizarding world, so you can't just scare her off."

I was trying to take all of this in. I really was.

"So.. You saw me at the wedding, and you didn't know I knew anything about magic, and then you saw me at the market and made it seem like our first meeting and you're a wizard but you never told me about it because you were afraid?"

"But I was intending to tell you quite soon." He said hopefully.

"Okay.. Okay. Now Alex." I said turning to her. "Talk. Now."

"Alright." Alex said slowly. "They kicked me out of school, the ministry of magic did. They said I had to leave school and that there's a case built against me saying I stole Sirius's magic. None of it is true, of course, but I won't be able to defend myself till the 8th of October."

"What?!" I said. "My daughter's going to court? By herself? The world's gone mad."

"I know right?" She said. "I actually got used to the idea. I have to go back to London on Thursday October the 7th so that I won't be late."

"What happens if you don't go?"

"You don't really want to know the answer to that." Ben said. "It's okay, we'll go with her."

"Of course I will! But Ben, are you sure you'd want to do this?"

"Of course, love, it's your daughter we're talking about. And besides, I didn't get my accent from my mother or anything, I used to live in London and I was a student at Hogwarts and I know the town by my heart."

"Do you know where the ministry of magic is?" Alex asked.

"Yes, but we won't be allowed to enter it, your mother and I."

"Why not?!" I asked.

"Because you're a muggle, and because to enter the court you must be called, or a witness or work in the ministry or have the power to do so." I sighed.

"It's okay." I said sitting next to Alex and hugging her. "Honey it's okay, we'll get through this."

The school's got all boring without Alex in it. It's just like the beginning of the term all over again. I really wanted her to stay at least for this year. I wonder who sent the ministry the report.

I've been spending most of my time with the marauders. I've finally managed to become animagus; all I have to do, is go to the ministry of magic and tell them about it. I'll need some kind of registration from them or whatever, but I really don't want to do that.

"So I can really turn into the animal I can be now?"

"Yup." Sirius said.

I was too excited to know what animal I'll turn into. We were in the shrieking shack, but it was morning. All of us had free periods so it wasn't a problem. Okay, I took a breath and did what I had to do.

It felt so strange, it didn't really feel good, but I suspected that was only because it's my first time. It was slower than the guys'. I felt everything in my body changing. My muscles, my skin. I smelled of fur, my tongue didn't feel the same, neither did my mouth. My eyesight changed as well, not to mention my height. I tried to talk, but I only managed to ... bark?

I started running, and I found my speed quite nice. I walked on four legs, I was covered with fur. the others were amazed, looking at me smiling, but I wanted to see myself! I went out of the Shack and found a puddle on the ground. I used it as a mirror and was shocked to see my reflection.

I'm a fox!

The guys came to me and I went back to the shack and changed back to human.

"That's really cool! A fox!" Sirius said. I laughed, he was right, foxes are cool.

"Look at the similarities between her and the fox she is." James said. "You're both blond, you sound the same and I've always thought you had the ears of a fox." I hit him.

"Don't let me bite you, Potter. I'm not afraid of doing it." We laughed.

"We'll have to go to the ministry." Remus said then.

"But the marauders never registered!"

"That's because what we're doing is illegal. We don't want you to get into trouble, therefore you should register."  James said.

"No, guys! If I went to the ministry the'd have to keep an eye on me, and we don't want that to happen, right? They'll know about all of you, because I'll be spending my animagus time with you guys." That totally persuaded them.

"Ugh, alright then." I grinned.

I couldn't wait to show the girls what I'm capable of turning into, and I wished I could show Alex.
