A Magical Year (Magical trilogy book #2)

*Complete* 1976 ... Last year, Alex and Kyle visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry with their school. They're best friends, and more like a brother and sister. Hogwarts was not the kind of school they expected to ever visit, since it taught REAL magic. And they never expected to meet such people there, people who they'd love.
Because of this love, Alex got the ability to make some simple spells; a talent that it so rare that it's nearly impossible. Now what'll happen when Alex turns from a muggle to a part-witch? And what will the Ministry of Magic decide to do about her?

66. A Shocking Letter

Kyle

"Now, that's the spirit!" Professor Dumbledore said.

"Good speech." Alex whispered to me, patting my back. I laughed. Since when was I good at speeches?

"We just wanted to give you the rules and tell you that the first task will be at the seventeenth of October, you've got plenty of time to be prepared and rested. You should all know that any kind of cheating is, for sure, completely forbidden in this tournament. It will all be discovered, so no point in trying.

Harming the other champions is also quite forbidden but - I don't think you'll need this rule, you already know it, it seems." professor Dumbledore said smiling. "Of course there are other rules but I won't tell them all to you now, they're written on a parchment that I'll give to you. Disobeying the rules will lessen your points and can possibly cause you to leave the tournament. Are there any questions you have?"

I shook my head no, so did Ally. Honestly, we were the ones who were supposed to be nodding right now, but it didn't seem right, don't know why.

"Alright now, off you go." Alex turned to leave but "Not you Alex." stopped her. I patted her shoulder good luck and went to my dorm.

Alex

"You want to talk to me sir?" I said slowly.

"Full of surprises, life is. Like a Berty Bott's box. You never know what you'll get from it. Before you speak, my dear Alex, I want you tell you that I know. I know you didn't mean to do anything that would make things the way they are. It wasn't your fault, and it's no one's really. It's not something bad, really but it's just - not totally fair for the others. Oh well, we can't really do anything about it, it's an honor to have you as a half Hogwarts champion."

"Thank you sir, the honor's mine, really." He smiled. But then got all serious.

"You should know something, though. This tournament is dangerous, and I know I've already said this hundreds of times, but I'll repeat it. Now I don't intend to scare you or anything, but you should know that Its danger will be doubled for you. You have more enemies than the others, not because you're a bad person, no, you're such a pure-hearted girl and I know it, but because of what happened today and being half a witch. I'm telling you this because I want you to be cautious. Do your best to pass the tasks safely." he rested his hand on my shoulder. "Now off you go, it's bedtime already."

~*~

We were having our breakfast in the Great Hall when the owls came, giving us our mail. I had two, surprisingly! The first one was from Mom. She asked about me and the place and Kyle and basically, about everything. I replied to her with a small letter that everything was great and about my news. The other letter, however was from...

From the Ministry of Magic?!

My heart was already beating very fast as I opened the letter, Max saw the envelope and said,

"Woah, what's that?" Which basically gave everyone's attention to my letter.

I finally opened it and read,

Miss Alex Cross,

We're writing to inform you that you will be needed in court at the 8th of October for we were reported that you have done a huge mistake which is: thievery of magic.

We were reported that during your last visit to Hogwarts, you committed a magic thievery crime from a guy called Sirius Black. It made you half a witch and got him to lose some of his magic powers, it may not be much, but it's still considered thievery.

As you may have been told, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy in addition to all the other magic schools around the world, isn't a place of thievery and thieves. Therefore, you'll have to leave the school by tomorrow, or the consequences won't be friendly.

Nobby Leach,

Minister of Magic.

"What the freaking hell?!" I almost shouted.

"Give it to me!" Max said. Taking the letter from my hands, almost ripping it. "OH MY GOD! Thievery of Magic?"

"I want to read it too!" Clara said stealing it from Max's hands. I was just looking at the envelope, frozen in my place, my mouth wide open. I had no idea what this crap was about. Lara read with her sister and as they finished they both covered their mouths with their hands.

"Shh, lower your voices, I don't want everyone to know about it. It's not a very nice thing to be told. But what the hell?!" I said finally. "He kissed me - we kissed. It wasn't as if I was like, "I want to be a witch too so kiss me or I'll kill your family" I didn't even know what I'd turn to be. Why should life be that complicated?! I'm barely eighteen and I'm going to court?!" I added in a low voice. Shit. Shit. Shit. "Where is Sirius anyway?"

"None of the marauders are here." Max said as she took a look at their table. "They're probably still asleep or something. I have to meet them though."

"Why?" Clara asked.

"You know, because of the whole turning-into-animagus thing. They're helping me with it. Soon I'll be one of them, the animagus." I nodded.

"I have to show him this. How did they even know about it - I mean, silly me, sure the Ministry of Magic knows about me and that I'm half a witch but, they said they were reported, which means someone must've told them about it. Guys it can't ... It can't be him, can it?" I hate not trusting Sirius, I do trust him, but in situations like these it's hard to trust even the closest ones to you. "It can't be him."

Sirius

The guys were still in the room, too lazy  to leave for breakfast and I was even more lazy, even lazier than Wormtail. I was still laying in my bed, wearing nothing but my boxers. October comes with windy, cold days and hot others. Yesterday was one of those hot days. The boys' voices were loud, but someone's voice was louder than theirs, joined by a knocking sound.

"Sirius Black!" Alex was calling. Oh dear, calling me by my full name is never a good sign. Well, unless she wants to flirt with me, she sometimes calls me by my full name when she flirts with me.

"Umm, guys.. How long are you staying here exactly?" I said getting out of bed and struggling to look for my pants to wear them.

"Come in!" James called. Abruptly the door was opened.

"James!" I yelled.

"Oh please, as if it's the first time for me to see you in your underwear." Padfoot and Prongs both Ooed, I rubbed the back of my neck sheepishly and finally managed to find my pants and wear them. Alex gave the guys a look and they decided to leave.

"What's wrong?" I asked. She looked both angry and sad at the same time. Something terrible must've happened. She sighed.

"I received a letter from the ministry of magic this morning." She paused. Okay? I questioned with my eyes. "Well, it said that I will be needed in court at the 8th of October because I've been accused of doing some kind of magic thievery." She paused again. "It mentioned you, said that I've stolen some of your magic abilities and that it may not be much, but is still considered thievery. The funny thing about it is that it said that they were reported about this whole thing. Which means, someone must've told them about it. I didn't only come to you to tell you about this Sirius, I also came to ask..." Oh no. "Does it bother you? Me having some of your magic abilities, I mean. I mean, you could've told me and it would've made everything better but telling the ministry of magic like, honestly Sirius, what the hell were you thinking of, you know I'm new to all of this and you know I didn't even ask you to do this, and you know I wouldn't have allowed it to happen in the first place if it were me deciding. Not that I wouldn't have kissed you, but, you know, I wouldn't have allowed myself to lessen your magic abilities not even by a small amount and I know that I'm talking really fast and that I'm basically babbling, but I just want to know why you did this - if you did."

"Alex Cross." Now it was me calling her by her full name. "You mean to say, you think I reported the ministry of magic that you stole my magic? Honestly?! This actually crossed your mind? And if it did, you believed it?!" I was seriously shocked. I didn't expect her to do such thing. Her silence was the yes to my question. "Wow." I said. "Maybe we should think about our relationship more,"

"Sirius I-"

"No, really Alex. Relationships are based on trust and if you don't trust me in something like this then I don't know about us - maybe, maybe we should take a break or something."

"I don't believe you! I'm telling you that I must go to court and all you care about is the part of me not trusting you? Well believe it or not, I wasn't totally convinced it was you who wrote it but I came here to ask you about it-" She was in tears, and though it hurt me, I didn't show it. I really do hate hurting her, even if she just hurt me.

"You're not supposed to even think for a second it was me. I thought you knew how much I love you! Alex, I thought you knew that if it were for me, I would've given you all my magic abilities and became a muggle just to make you a witch not only half a witch, because I love you. Because I love the look on your face when you discover what the abilities you are capable of. When you know that you became one of us. And I would've given you anything to have all of this forever, I thought you knew that!" My voice was probably too loud. I should probably lower it. "I'm sorry to know that you'll have to go to court and I know that it's not the best thing for half a muggle to do and forgive me to even feel bad about you not trusting me! It was so selfish of me. It's all my fault, isn't it?" I must've gone too far. "Isn't it?!" I shook my head, picked up a shirt and my robes and went out of the dorm, closing the door behind me fiercely.
