3. Grey Like Ashes

Chapter Two

Grey Like Ashes

"Look at the sky, Goodley, it's grey like smoke, like ashes from an old fire, the fire of our last battle'' the King said to his most loyal knight, Sir Goodley. The sky was indeed a dark shade of grey, the exact shade of grey Dragen Island was.

Dragen Island was the home of every dragon, it was told to be a cloud of ashes from everything any dragon had ever set on fire. The cloud went wherever Selire, the dragon King, wanted and if it ever drifted above the Kingdom of Lenne it meant certain war, which lead to spilling of blood and the loss of good souls, both of man and beast.

“The dragons seek war, Goodley, we must find the Fyre Maiden!" the King announced, “Send out messengers to have every maiden and child in the whole kingdom to be brought to me, these are dark times." the last thing was mumbled under his breath as he headed towards the great door of one of the many ballrooms and walked out into the almost deserted hallways of the castle.
Sir Goodley was the kind of man who believed only in what he saw, to him legends were just stories people told children before they fell asleep or to stop them from stealing and other such things, they weren't real, yet he had to obey the King and he certainly would hold his tongue when he was speaking of the matter. He slowly walked out himself, through a smaller and less noticeable door behind three great thrones, if the girls must come soon; he needed to send the messengers throughout the kingdom as soon as possible.

The messengers were sent, all was ready and he knew what he would say when they found no one of the description of the Fyre Maiden like he knew they wouldn’t.

“You would’ve looked stupid to have brought a girl into battle, people wouldn’t think you fit to wear the crown.” he paced his room, back and forth, but was that too rude he was the King, not a soldier who wanted to bring his daughter to war, what about, “We’re lucky we didn’t find her, if she knew she was the Fyre Maiden she might rise against us and use her un-humanely powers to help the dragons.” He knew just what the king would say to that, ‘the legend says she will help us to stop our feuds not help us win the upcoming battle.’ Those would be his exact words, Goodley bet on it.
