Chapter 7

The table was so silent. I mean really. Everyone wasn't talking at all. Wherever I walk or go to, eveyone falls silent. Like I'm a monster or something. I looked at the soggy salad I had on my plate. With a wierd looking sauce drizzled messily on top. The food don't really look so appetizing any more.

Everyone isn't eating, so there is only sound of the fork scratching the plate while everyone played with their food. "Um?" Crissie made the first sound, sipping on the apple juice box she bought at the vending machine. Jace must have heard of the rumor too, because whenever I accidentally brush my arm on his, he would stiffen up... like he was Edward Cullen or something. I frowned and decided to continue Crissie's try to get us to talk.

"So... how was algebra? Did you ace the test... Crissie?" I asked. Crissie looked up unexpectantly. "Yeah! The rose was like a magic good luck charm! I've never ever gotten 86/100 in my entire life, and algebra- Oops." She noticed everyone was looking at her. Huh, they've been listening. She shouldn't have said anything about the rose. "What rose... Crissie?" Jace asked, his voice seemed surpressed. "Um, hehe," she giggled, and her eyes flickered to mine for help. I sighed. Jeez, she's so careless.

"The rose! The rose she got from her secret lover!" I gave a lame excuse that I suddenly thought of last minute. "She? Secret lover? Psh," Gordan laughed. I knew Jace knew I was lying. Well, he isn't so gullible like the others let's say...

Jace looked at me like I betrayed him or something... and it kinda hurts.

School ended, finally... a whole day of torture. And luckily, Noah had skipped school today. Probably a good thing. Everyone went home early, leaving me and Jace alone. To walk back together. I swallowed and adjusted my bag strap. "Jace-" I started to say but he cut me off. "I have to go do some stuff, for the student council." He gave me a look which I can't make out. I don't understand.

Why does everyone- especially Jace hate the fact that I'm together with Noah. Not that I'm together with him. Everyone at the table felt so hurt... except Crissie though. She's elated. It's all because of Noah. Him, him, him. I growled and clenched my fist as I watched Jace walk away fast, with his back to me. Damn Noah.

"You know it's your fault right?" I turned around to see Justin. The one that never speaks. My mouth opened to say something. It might be my fault. Wait, maybe it is really my fault. I have no right to talk back about that statement. "Jace is angry, no wait, disappointed that you spent time with that guy." He stated the obvious.

I pursed my lips, and let my fingernails dig into my skin. "Do you want to know why he is a disappointed?" Justin asked, without a tone. Justin always looks like he's half asleep, but I guess he's not. He's eyes and ears are always open.

"Yes... B-" He cut me off by raising a hand, silencing me. "He hates Noah. And the reason... you'll have to find out yourself," He paused, looked at me again and say. "And I know the rumors aren't true. People here like to spread stupid rumors... I can see from your eyes that you're desperate....I don't like you, but I don't want to see my best friend sad. He really likes you... I can see. You should treasure him... " Without saying anything, he turned and walked away. Treasure him? Does he really like me? My face flushed with that thought. He must just like me as a friend. Wait. Now's not the time.

Now's the time I find a way to say the truth to Jace.
