Ashes

“But this time when we kiss, I can taste the ashes. We’re breaking down. Almost gone. There is no fire, not even a spark between us. Nothing, but ashes.”

Amber is a blonde haired 17 year old. She's unsure of herself at times and can be shy. But with her friends she's bubbly and hyper. Playing soccer, she feels confident almost cocky.

Chase is one year older than Amber. But he's in her photography class. Together they have to work on a school project promoting the school with photos. They choose the obvious way- to take pictures of the highschool's sport team.

Amber's life is made up of soccer. Chase plays soccer for himself and his dad, that's all he has left anymore.

"I dribble the ball down field trying to calm the butterflies in my stomach. Hanging out with Chase was different. He was sweet and kind. But also an amazing soccer player. It's almost like he's perfect."

Chapter 3-Ross's Pov

We walk into Starbucks and Daniel immediately offers to pay. I shrug.

"If you want to. I don't have to pay no matter what, Cati's paying for me."

"No I'm not, Ross. Daniel's paying, I mean he offered."
I glance at him.
"Are you sure?" He nods.

"It's not my money anyway, not really. It's a gift from my dad." That confuses me, I want to know more but he turns away.
"I'm going to go help Daniel carry everything." Cati gets up from the table leaving Josh and I alone.

"I'm still waiting to hear your schedule." He says. I raise my eyebrows.

"That's a bummer. Because I'm not going to tell you stalkers my schedule." I say kidding around. "You can't attack me because I have a concussion." For once, I can use this stupid concussion to my advantage.

"At least tell me your off hours." I shake my head laughing.

"Just ask Cati, if you're so desperate." I don't know why I care if they know my schedule or not. I start to get up from the table.

"I'm going to go tell Daniel my order." Josh shakes his head pointing.

"Too late." I turn around and see Josh is right. Cati and Daniel are walking over holding two cups each. Josh jumps up and grabs the cup Cati holds out to him.

"CANDY!" He shouts, causing people to stare.

Daniel hands me a cup. "I hope you like the Spice Pumpkin Latte." He says.

I take a sip, careful not to burn my tongue. I smile.
"It's delicious!"

"Okay you guys want to walk around or something. This caffeine is going to make Josh go crazy in a few seconds." Cati opens the door and we all walk outside. Nearby two kids are playing a 1v1 soccer game. I groan and turn away. Cati laughs and starts walking away from them.

"Sorry. I know we have to keep your mind off soccer." I don't answer and bite my lip instead. It's a bad habit, I've gotten into when I think.

"Wait, I thought you liked soccer." Daniel runs a few steps to catch up with us, leaving Josh alone.

"Yeah, but I've got a concussion. So no soccer for 2 months." I tell him. Then, I change the subject. "Are you guys ready for school tomorrow?"
Josh groans and we all turn to look back at him. He's holding an empty cup and looks as if he might cry. I roll my eyes and shove the rest of my latte into his hands.

"Here have the rest of mine." His eyes light up like a little kid. Laughing I turn back to Cati and Daniel.

"Is he always like this?"

"Yup, he's usually crazy. Daniel is too most of the time." I glance over at him, wondering why he isn't that way today. As if he can read my mind, he shrugs.

"I'm tired today." He says. Cati snorts.

"Yeah, right." We let the matter drop at that. For a few minutes, we walk in silence. Cati eventually sits on a bench and I jump behind her. Braiding her hair just for fun, I try to start the conversation again but Daniel beats me to it.

"Want to braid my hair when you're done?" He runs his hand through his hair, making it stick up. It makes him look goofy. I smile and he smiles back at me with white teeth.

"Your hair's too pretty to braid." I joke. An outraged cry comes from Cati.

"Are you saying my hair's not pretty?!" My eyes grow wide and I hold up my hands innocently.

"No, Cati. Your hairs gorgeous. Oh my gosh, no!!" She jumps up from the bench and starts to chase me. "I'm sorry!" I screech, but she keeps coming. I laugh while I run. Then, I try a different tactic. "Concussion!" I yell. Honestly, I couldn't care less about the concussion, but some thing has got to make her stop. I feel her grab my arm and I give up collapsing on the ground in a fit of giggles.

"You're like a little kid." Cati says standing over me. Behind her, I see Daniel and Josh walking up.

"You're fast." Josh comments. I laugh.

"Yup." Daniel sticks out his hand to help me up. I grab it.

"Are you two going to the party?" He asks, looking at me.

"Party?" I turn to Cati.

"Yeah, we're coming." She says, but she won't tell me anything more.

A.N: YAAAAY! A PARTY! Okay so there was a ton of dialogue in this chapter. Did you guys like that or not? I am going to go back to Chapter 1 and 2 and add some detail about how the character's look.
