Up until the accident I was that girl. That girl who enjoyed parties and got drunk enough to forget her name. I was that girl who everyone knew - the typical cheerleader. I was that girl who had everything. But then that night had to happen. It was my fault, that much I knew. And I would do anything to be with my family again.

Bad things seem to follow me everywhere. And now I know they were never just coincidences.

5. Chapter Four - Daniel Harper *edited*

The halls were decorated with posters of the coming game and the winter dance. Everybody was talking about the possible win of our team because of Angelo. The class had just ended and I'm on my way back to the dormitory. A loud bang came from behind me. I looked back and found that the new student, Daniel Harper, had just shut his locker. His cold eyes made me drop my gaze and proceed my walk.

Until now I don't get why he hated me all of a sudden. It wasn't like I did something to him this morning. In factshould be the one who's mad. He made me late for class. Well, technically.

Ugh. I shouldn't care about him.

The sound of breaking glass and bending metal filled my ears and when I opened my eyes to see what had happened, I saw my family's bodies scattered everywhere on the road.  I was upside down as I was attempting to unlock my seat belt but it was stuck. I was panicking.

A small twitch caught my eye. I looked outside and saw my mother's body convulsing. There was a disgusting sound coming from her; like meat and bones being mushed together. After a moment, it stopped moving. I stayed still. And then it turned onto its belly and began dragging itself towards my direction.

"M-Mom?" I sobbed. But it wasn't my mom anymore.

It raised its head and one of its eyes was hanging onto its cheek. "You killed us." One elbow dragged its body closer.

"Why did you kill us?" I turned around and saw my father's body crawling towards me as well.

"No..." I cried. I harshly pulled on my seat belt but it was no use. It was too late. A bloody hand had grabbed my neck and-

I woke up full of sweat despite the cold temperature of the room. I went to the balcony to breathe in fresh air and saw the moon was full and bright. I scanned the surroundings and found an irregular hole in the middle of the lake. A hockey stick was the only thing in sight.

Has he become a victim of the accidents as well?

Barefooted, I ran down the cobblestone stairs so I could get to Angelo. It was prohibited to get out of the rooms after the evening prayer, but I didn't care. I needed to get to him.

Just as I was about to run towards the lake, I noticed a dim bluish light - that wasn't there a while ago - coming from the lake's direction.

How is that possible? Everyone is supposed to be asleep. And why wasn't that person calling for help?

I tucked my wild hair behind an ear and quietly took steps towards the lake. In my rush, I forgot to wear anything for my feet. As soon as I could, I peeked through the wall. I could only see a little.

My eyes almost popped out of my skull when I saw Angelo on the ground, his back leaning on a boulder. He was soaking wet and pale. His skin was almost ghostly white and his lips were taking on a blue tint. I leaned in further to get a better view. Something was dripping from his forehead. Blood. What surprised me more was the other person standing before him. It was Harper. He was holding some sort of blade.

What was he going to do with it?

I almost ran towards them but something was stopping me. Almost as if I still had to see what was going to happen next.

I only blinked but as soon as I opened my eyes, He was already aiming the blade towards Angelo.

And just as he swung his arm, I moved away and leaned against the wall. I covered my mouth with my hands to stop myself from screaming.

Will he kill me too?

If he finds me here, he probably will.

Forcing myself to move, I ran, confused. I kept on running until I was inside my room. Hiding under my covers, I stayed awake that night, thinking why the new student would kill my cousin.

The following morning, I felt sick. I came out of one of the shower cubicles, expecting news or any gossip about Angelo's death but there were none. Instead, the girls were talking about how he was going to make the team win. That's impossible...

Was I just dreaming?

"Move, Freak." A burly girl pushed me out of her way. I went to my room to change to my uniform, still full of questions.

I was walking in the hallway. Everything seemed normal.

"Hey, Pearl." A voice spoke from behind me. I quickly turned around and saw Angelo smiling that charming smile of his.

I felt air leave my lungs. I hurriedly pulled him with me into an empty hallway. I looked around to see if anybody was out there but fortunately, there were none.

"What's going on, Pearl?" He asked with amusement in his voice. I looked at him. All the trace of cheerfulness left his face. He touched the skin under my eyes. "Have you gotten any sleep last night?"

"What happened?" I asked.

"What happened to what?" He held my hands. They were shaking. "Are you okay?"

"Are you okay?" I asked back.

"What's going on, Pearl?" he was the one looking around now.

"I... I saw you... You... the ice... You were pale... He... He killed you..." I stammered, about to cry in frustration.

"What? Who killed me? Did you have another nightmare?" He was hugging me now. He was whispering soothing words to calm me down. Was I just dreaming? Was I just having one of my nightmares?

In the direction in which my head was turned, I saw the new student through my tear-filled eyes, leaning against the wall, his hands inside his hoodie's pockets. When he noticed me looking, he stood straight.

I closed my eyes to rid of the tears that blurred my vision.

When I opened them, he was gone.
