Of Kings and Queens

A pitch have yet to be written, as the plot-planning is not 100% finished, but I couldn't stay away from writing the actual story itself.
This story is about war. And with war comes hate and love, blood and tears, passion and fear.

15. Lady Ranico

Lady Ranico, Aronico

dies Solis, VIII Iulias, 09:57 AM

The beginning of a new day was beautiful and refreshing. It had finally stopped raining after days of nothing but light downpour, and the birds was out again and sung their melodies, as they elegantly danced around in the air.

For Lady Ranico, this day was a mess, and she gave a sad sigh where she leaned against the railing on her balcony, whilst watching a pair of butterflies pass by.

It wasn't until the sound of doors opening that she lit up, and turned right around. A handsome knight walked into her bedroom with a slight limp, yet he managed to smile and stand tall.

“Cleon!” Lady Ranico gasped with a smile that showed all of her teeth.

She lifted up in her dress as she ran across the stoned floors on bare feet, and Cleon braced himself as he knew what was coming.

As she almost jumped into his arms, he had to take a few steps back and winced at the slight pain that shot through his entire body. Luckily, Lady Ranico didn't seem to notice.

“My Lady, it's been so long,” he said and he smiled down to her.

His hand removed a few of the golden locks from her face, and caressed her cheek. She gave a sweet and lovely smile at his tender touch as their eyes met.

“It's been four days only, Cleon.” She giggled and held his hand.

Four days only? For him it had felt like years. He was so used to guarding her on a daily basis twenty-four-hours for ten years, and he just right spent four days on a stone bed in the temple of Goddess Altheda.

“Guards,” Lady Ranico then says and steps around Cleon. “If you won't mind, I'd like some privacy with my dear friend. You too, abet.”

Although the abet opened his mouth as to speak, the threatening gaze Lady Ranico send him was enough to make him take long steps out of the room.

As the doors were closed, leaving Lady Ranico and Cleon alone, she let out a long “ah” and threw herself at her bed.

“I don't think you know how annoying it is to be watched every second of my day!” she said with a smile as she looked up at the ceiling.

“You are aware, that watching over you every second of your day is my job, right?” Cleon chuckled as he sat on the edge of the bed, and felt Lady Ranico quickly shuffle to his side.

“I didn't mean it like that!” She put a hand before her mouth and looked at Cleon with large, apologetic eyes. “You're... different.”

He knew so already, but hearing her say it made his heartbeat speed up.

“No worries, I know what you mean,” he said as he smiled at her. “Is everything else as it should be? I've been unable to keep up with what's going on the last couple of days.”

Lady Ranico's mood changed abruptly, and Cleon's smile faded as well when he saw the tears in her eyes.

“Lady Ranico, is everything all--?”

“Sir Valdas have been sent back to war!” Tears streamed down her face.

“I'm so sorry to hear...” No he wasn't. He had never really liked Sir Valdas, but not for the reasons of jealousy, they just had different views on certain things.

Sir Valdas wasn't that much of a charming knight in shining armour as Lady Ranico made him out to be, to Cleon's opinion.

“It's... it's just that he just right got home four days ago! And now he's leaving again to fight in the stupid war.” She sobbed and leaned in to Cleon's open arms. Her tears were warm as they wetted his shirt.

He held her gently and petted her long, blond hair.

“You have no reason to worry, my Lady. Sir Valdas is a strong and brave knight, he'll return again soon.” He kissed the top of her head, and felt her tug in his shirt.

“You're right,” she whimpered. “You're always right. He'll return safely.”
