Of Kings and Queens

A pitch have yet to be written, as the plot-planning is not 100% finished, but I couldn't stay away from writing the actual story itself.
This story is about war. And with war comes hate and love, blood and tears, passion and fear.

2. Emmet

Emmet, Arden

dies Martis, III Iulias, 01:57 PM

“Tell me, brother,” Jean said as he stepped over a pile of burnt wood and scorched stones. “What exactly are we looking for here?”

“Anything worth salvaging,” Emmet answered and with a gloved hand, he quickly grabbed a squared piece of wood and threw it aside.

A day had passed since the attack on the little village in the middle of the forest. Now Emmet and Jean, two thieves bound by blood, were scavenging the remains for anything that might be worth any amount of gold.

“Do you really believe here will be anything worth our time?” Jean had doubted his brother's decision from the beginning and didn't really look that carefully around. “Micoreth is known for their strong military and they're very thorough, as far as the rumors go.”

“Bah!” Emmet spat. “You believe those drunken fools back at the inn?”

Emmet walked through a door, but was quickly pulled back as the roof collapsed.

“And why not? Drunken fools or no, I believe they know what they're talking about!” Jean coughed as dust and ash rose when the roof hit the ground.

“Even so, we can't return with nothing. Again!” Emmet clenched his fists and kicked a scorched skull that flew quite a way.

“Brother...” Jean sighed.

“You don't understand my pain... they look to me, yet I can't even provide them food?” Emmet turned to his brother and ran a hand through his hair and ended up pulling a bit out. Jean noticed the mix of guilt and pain in his younger brothers eyes.

He didn't hesitate when he walked to his brother and held him in his arms, as Emmet was shaking like a leaf as he tried to choke his cry and control his tears.

“Brother... we won't find anything here. Let's go back.”
