3. Flight

I was sitting on the last suitcase, trying to get it to shut. Finally, it did and I huffed and stepped back to survey my luggage before me. I had two, large cheetah print suitcases filled with clothes, hair stuff, make up, shoes and practically everything else. I was not the type of girl to travel light. Once Maria got home I practically jumped on her and started yelling nonsense in her face, pretending that I was mad. Eventually, I couldn’t hold in the giggles anymore, her face was just priceless. I collapsed to the floor laughing and she looked incredibly flustered. Just to add to her confusion, I put on a poker face and walked normally right past her and began to eat the pre-prepared dinner of spaghetti.

I called out to her that dinner was ready and after we finished eating everything went back to normal when she punched my on the arm playfully as payback for what I did earlier “But why did you only tell me the day before I have to leave?” I whined. “I wish I hadn’t, but I only found out late last night. That’s why I had to go to work early this morning.” She replied regretfully. “I’m gonna miss you il mio amico.” I whispered, changing into Italian at the end. “Me too.” She hugged me and we both broke down in tears. I never cry, but Maria has been my best friend ever since I was eight and moved here from Italy to go to boarding school where all the other girls were stuck-up and prissy. Maria had been my only friend in the earlier years there and ever since, we have been inseparable. Now I was leaving her for eight whole months! It was just so wretched. I pulled away and wiped my eyes on my sleeve. “You should probably go get ready for tomorrow. They’re meeting you at the airport at 4:00 in the morning so you better get a good night sleep. I nodded. “Will you drive me to the airport?” I asked. “Of course. Now go to bed.” She pointed to my bedroom and I gave her one last hug before going to my room.

After brushing my teeth and everything I climbed into bed and tried to fall asleep, failing miserably and it seemed I had only just closed my eyes when I woke to Maria shaking me, telling me it’s time to get ready. I grumbled and stumbled into the bathroom where I had a shower and washed my hair. I brushed my damp hair and pulled it up into a high ponytail and putting on a bit of makeup to cover up the shadows under my eyes from the sleepless night I had last night. I put on a comfortable but professional looking outfit consisting of a white buttoned up blouse tucked into black high-waisted shorts, black heels and my sliver necklace. I grabbed my black hand bag and wheeled my two suitcases out into the living room where Maria was waiting, looking gorgeous as always with her velvety brown eyes and curly golden hair flowing down her back, looking positively angelic in her pale pink dress with black stripes and black heels. She took one of my suitcases and we wheeled them down to where her car was parked, heaving them inside. “Jeez Ro, what’s IN these.” She puffed, using her nickname for me. “Stuff.” I grinned.

The drive to the airport was pretty quiet. Neither of us wanted to cry again, but when we pulled up in the airport car park, I heard her snivel slightly and I hugged her shoulders and gave her a quick squeeze. We walked through the glass doors and into the air-conditioned briskness of the terminal, heels clicking on the polished floors. We made our way to where Paul and the boys were supposed to meet us, stopping at Victoria’s Secret for a few minutes to buy matching iPhone cases. They were the signature pink stripes with the logo and Victoria’s Secret written on them. The terminal where their private jet was had been cleared so no fans or paps could harass them. Once they were in sight, Paul strode towards us and shook our hands again. “Glad you made it,” he said. “But we really need to get going.” Niall stepped forward; eyes fixed on Maria, and asked if Paul could maybe introduce them. Each of the boys stepped forward and gave us a hug and I introduced myself and Maria seeing as her and Niall were gazing into each other’s eyes. I asked if they could give us a minute to say goodbye. I grabbed Maria’s arm and pulled her a few steps away. She blushed; I guess she really liked Niall. “So, you and Niall huh?” I giggled. “NO! I only just met him and he probably doesn’t like me anyway.” I rolled my eyes. “Of course he likes you, Maria, how could he not? But I really have to go now. I’ll Skype you as often as I can ok?” she nodded as I hugged her tightly. She pulled away and pointed at the awaiting boys. “Now go chase your dream,” she ordered. “And go for Harry, he’s sexy and single.” She whispered in my ear cheekily. “MARIA!” I laughed but obeyed and walked away, waving.

We were well into the air by now and I kicked off my heels and tucked my feet under me. Harry, Liam and Louis were sitting across from me and Niall was next to me so I turned to him. “So, you like Maria?” I asked him, twirling my ponytail in my fingers. He choked and started coughing. I patted him on the back. “Is it really that obvious?” he choked out. I nodded and whispered in his ear “But don’t worry, she likes you too.” He relaxed instantly and grinned widely.

After getting to know the boys for a few hours and them getting to know me, I became really tired and fell asleep with one thought going through my mind: I was really doing this, I was going on tour with the world’s biggest boy band to chase my dream to become a famous photographer.
