These Bruises

"Que sera, you'll never guess who I saw."
I was loved. I was hurt. That was repeated when I left you. But there are two other people who I love. As a single mom with two little kids in California, my life got better. It was six years. Six years since I last saw you. Six years since those little talks. Now you can see that these bruises that I've been hiding for those six long years mean. (Second book in Little Talks duology)

21. We're gonna make this place your home

I stare up at the man. It can't be. It can't be.

But it is.

I shed a small tear and then hug him. "I thought you were in prison."

"Well, it's the same guy. Like remember when you had to do that rap as a freshman for geometry and you told me in the letter that you, Sabrina, and Megan tried rhyming ratio with fellatio?"

I laugh out loud. "When did you get out?" I cry.

Still hugging me, he answered, "I was considered not guilty six years ago. I arrived back at home September of 2013."

My smile soon faded away. It hit me like a knife. I was at college. That was exactly a month after I ran away from everyone. "What did you do when you found out I was gone?" I solemnly asked.

"I found out the day I got out. I arrived at home and greeted your mother and sister. I asked where you were and they stayed silent. They finally told me about you and I couldn't take it. I spent all day looking at your room, you've grown up so much. You became someone who wasn't the same nine-year-old girl I left all those years ago. I waited until I could have the day where I can see my youngest daughter again. When I got the text from your cousin saying that I needed to be here, I knew that you were coming home.

"So all along, I knew that you were coming home. I miss you sweetie." He was crying. I've never seen my own father cry.

"Can we please not cry? The game's about to start." Cassidy interrupted. I wipe the tears away and agree.

"And that throw to that guy to score that touchdown I mean how can you miss that?!" Louis goes on talking about the game. I admit it was a good game. My alma mater won so whoopee! But we split up into cars and guess who I got stuck with. The Tomlinsons: Louis, Eleanor, and their kids Kelly and Kevin.

I look at the kids. "I'm sorry that he's your dad." I apologize to them.

"It's alright." Kevin replies. "A lot of my friends are concerned about him sometimes. Me and Kelly are a lot. Did he get dropped on his head when he was born?"

Eleanor sighs. "That's what I wonder about your father, Kev."

"And for the record, I didn't!" Louis responds.

As the drive from the field to my house continues, I wish I was assigned to Cassidy's car, but she already had Zayn, Liam, Liam's girlfriend Sophia, and Josie. Mom and dad are in one. Katie has Niall, Rachel, their kid Carly, Louisa, Tristan, and Nicole. Elizabeth has Eleanor R., Becca, Sereen, and Harry.

"So Britta, where were you this whole time?!" Eleanor asked keeping her eyes on the road.

I take a deep breath and stare out at the window. I see that the old ice cream place where I used to go to everyday after school during my high school days was still in business.

"I was in California. I got my education there, and settled down."

"So where do I turn next, Lou?"

"Follow Katie!"

"I'm doing so but what if someone cuts us off?!"

"No one will cut you off this is a double yellow lined road!"

They finally settled down, just as we were pulling onto my old street. I begin to feel nostalgic. A lot of things happened on this street. Like the time I ran into a garbage can with my bike and scraped my knee. And that time I was kissed by Jack Oswald at his house down the street during a party. He was my first kiss. Haha.

"Brit, which house is yours?" Louis asks.

I look around for my house. Six years away from it and I still remember it. "Right there." I point to my childhood house.

We pull into the driveway and I tense up a little.

I mean, this is the house that built me.

[hey! So after next week I'll be on winter break. But after break is midterms so whoopee. Sarcasm.

So next chapter is going to be inspired by Miranda Lambert's song "House That Built Me". I thought that it would fit in.

QOTC: if you go back in time to any given moment, where would you go? Me, id go to the two times I found out I made middle school basketball. Man, those were the times.

There are no songs for the chapter but there will be a bunch later on.

I have a lot planned for this story. Including something really dramatic will happen. I really hope you'll enjoy it.
