These Bruises

"Que sera, you'll never guess who I saw."
~
I was loved. I was hurt. That was repeated when I left you. But there are two other people who I love. As a single mom with two little kids in California, my life got better. It was six years. Six years since I last saw you. Six years since those little talks. Now you can see that these bruises that I've been hiding for those six long years mean. (Second book in Little Talks duology)

Enjoy!]

"Are you serious it was her?" I walk back and forth. I missed the train to L.A., but Perrie is okay with me missing the show. I've seen it ten thousand times.

"I'm one hundred percent serious."

"Zayn, the last time you were serious was during your final tour as One Direction."

"Elizabeth, are you on one of those mood swings?" I ask.

Yes, I still have contact with Britta's cousin, Elizabeth. In fact, I could've made a whole phone conversation on how I found Britta her in San Diego.

I hear her groan in the background. "No. I'm not on my mood swings." She's pregnant with twins. I feel sorry for her. Carrying two kids at once. "So, what do you want me to do?" She asked.

"Call everyone. Tell them that Britta is alive. Call her mom in Florida, call very pregnant Katie, call Rachel who's probably taking care of her kids, call Nicole at university, call Eleanor at work, call Kaitlyn in Paris, call Cassidy who's probably with Brandon, EVERYONE!" I yell into her ear. "I got to go. My table is ready."

I hang up.

I was eating dinner at the Underville Pizza Palace. I order a small slice of pepperoni pizza and a coke. The waitress leaves to get my order. Okay, I'll listen to the entertainment.

Wait.

I know the entertainment anywhere.

<Britta POV>

"Don't you think that it's boring how people talk

Making smart with their words again, well I'm bored

Because I'm doing this for the thrill of it, killin' it

Never not chasing a million things I want

And I am only as young as the minute is full of it

Getting pumped up from the little bright things I bought

But I know they'll never own me (Yeah)

Baby be the class clown I'll be the beauty queen in tears

It's a new art form showing people how little we care (yeah)

We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear

Let's go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (yeah)

Pretty soon I'll be getting on my first plane

I'll see the veins of my city like they do in space

But my head's filling up fast with the wicked games, up in flames

How can I **** with the fun again, when I'm known

And my boys trip me up with their heads again, loving them

Everything's cool when we're all in line, for the throne

But I know it's not forever (Yeah)

Baby be the class clown I'll be the beauty queen in tears

It's a new art form showing people how little we care (yeah)

We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear

Let's go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (yeah)

It looked alright in the pictures (yeah)

Getting caught soft for the trip though, isn't it?

I fall apart with all my heart

And you can watch from your window

And you can watch from your window

Baby be the class clown I'll be the beauty queen in tears

It's a new art form showing people how little we care (yeah)

We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear Let's go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (yeah)

And talk it up like yeah (yeah)

And talk it up like yeah (yeah)

Let's go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (yeah)

And talk it up like yeah (yeah)

And talk it up like yeah (yeah)

Let's go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (Yeah)."

I take a deep breath.

I noticed him in the crowd.

And he noticed me.

I thought he should be in Los Angles by now?

I think for a moment.

That's it.

I tell him that he's a stinking, lying, douche pickle to me six years ago. I straighten my dress out and step up to the mic. "Okay, this next song is for an old friend of mine." I say. I tell the band what we are playing. The drums begin to do a familiar beat, and then it's time.

You ready, Zayn?

I know I am.

"You better take it from me

That boy is like a disease

You run and you try and you're tryin' to hide

And you're wondering why you can't get free

He's like a curse, he's like a drug

You'll get addicted to his love

You wanna get out, but he's holdin' you down

'Cause you can't live without one more touch

He's a, a good time, cowboy Casanova

Leaning up against the record machine

He looks like a cool drink of water

But he's candy-coated misery

He's the devil in disguise, a snake with blue eyes

And he only comes out at night

Gives you feelings that you don't want to fight

You better run for your life

I see that look on your face

You ain't hearing what I say

So I'll say it again, 'cause I been where you been

And I know how it ends, you can't get away

Don't even look in his eyes

He'll tell you nothing but lies

And you wanna believe but you won't be deceived

If you listen to me and take my advice

He's a, a good time, cowboy Casanova

Leaning up against the record machine He looks like a cool drink of water

But he's candy-coated misery

He's the devil in disguise, a snake with blue eyes

And he only comes out at night

Gives you feelings that you don't want to fight

You better run for your life

Run run away, don't let him mess with your mind

He'll tell you anything you wanna hear

He'll break your heart, it's just a matter of time

But just remember

He's a, a good time, cowboy Casanova

Leaning up against the record machine

He looks like a cool drink of water

But he's candy-coated misery

He's the devil in disguise, a snake with blue eyes

And he only comes out at night

Gives you feelings that you don't want to fight

You better run for your life

Oh, you better run for your life

Oh, you better run for your life.”

I get a round of applause from the crowd, and my kids.

But Zayn has a stern look on his face.

That's right.

He was a devil in disguise.

Six years ago.

And he deserved it...

Back then.

[Promised you a longer chapter, so here you go. ACT Explore test was easy. Now I got marching band. Expect probably a new chapter on Friday because I have no school! Yay! Okay, I got to go. My ride is going to be here super soon and I need to be outside. BYE!]
