Behind the Brush

Alison was a makeup artist. She shadowed Lou Teasedale to get experience. Her job mostly consisted of watching and handing Lou the products that she needed. She was never allowed to even adjust the five superstars' makeup or hair. Then, one day, Lou calls in sick the day of the show. Food Poisoning. Alison gets her chance at doing makeup for once, and maybe a chance with a curly-headed boy...... (btw this is for a contest!!!! oh yeah!!!! please like/fave if you do like it!)

1. Chapter 1

*Alison POV*

"BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP"

I groaned as the alarm went off. I checked the time. Six a.m. All I wanted to do was turn around and fall back asleep, but I had a job to do. I got out of bed, and padded over to the bathroom. As I brushed my teeth, I contemplated how ridiculous it was to have me show up to work at 8:30 am when the show was at 7:00 pm. It's not like One Direction's make up takes a long time to do, especially since most of their acne has cleared.

I quietly ranted to myself as I got dressed. I don't even do any of their make up? All I do is hand Lou the brushes that she needs, and occasionally give my opinion on foundation. I swear, I would have quit this job a long time  ago if Lou hadn't said she could land me a job as a make up artist in Hollywood. The good thing about this job is that I get to travel all around the world with the tour. I share a tour bus with Lou and the hair stylist, Ryan. I checked my outfit in the mirror once more, to make sure that I didn't put anything on backwards, as that often happens when I wake up at this hour. I glance again at the clock once more. 7:00 am. I head back over to the shared bathroom, and seeing that Lou and Ryan are done, I grab my make up bag and start doing my own make up. It's not like the boys will ever notice me, I just like looking presentable.

At 8:00 I head over to the dining room. Lou and Ryan are already there, discussing the boys' looks for tonight. Ryan is always trying to convince Lou to let him dye Louis' air red, because it looked so nice when he did it for Comic Relief, but Lou always firmly says no. Modest is really strict about the boys' looks. The only reason Louis got away with it was because it was for charity, and it would look good for the band. Too bad all the reporters ignore him all the time

I sat down at the breakfast table, and grab myself a grapefruit. Lou and Ryan are always trying to get me to eat more, but I don't want to gain weight. My metabolism is ridiculously slow, so the slightest change in diet creates weight gain, and I really don't want to be bigger than a size four. We talk about the show, their outfits, and such things. Our tour bus finally arrives at the arena.

Fans are already outside. They freak out when they see Lou, Ryan, and I step out of the bus. I heard my name being called out a few times amongst all the calls for selfies with Lou Teasedale. I wave to the fans, and then we're inside the arena. The hardest job is having to set up all the makeup supplies. We could get one of the workers there to do it for us, but Lou doesn't like people touching her equipment, and one time a worker dropped one of Ryan's boxes, and his best hair dryer broke, so he doesn't trust them either. I go through the motions of unpacking the boxes. Open the box, makeup on the right side of the counter, brushes on the left, give Zayn's station and extra jar of hair gel, and don't put hair gel on Harry's station. Get Niall some extra bronzer because he looks pretty pale, and get Liam and Louis some extra foundation, their skin tone is uneven. Don't forget to unpack the bleach as well, since Niall's roots are showing just a bit too much. Oh and get the hair washing station ready, Harry needs a bit of a trim. It's exhausting having to remember all of this, thank goodness Lou has it all memorized. She will start telling me to unpack things that we haven't used in a long time, such as a curler for Louis' hair when he goes to award shows.

After about three hours, everything is unpacked. I check my iPhone for the time. 3:30 pm. That leaves me an hour and a half to explore the city. I stuff all my hair underneath a fedora, and grab my ginormous sunglasses. I leave through the front door since we cam through the back. All of these preventative measures just so that I can have some peace and quiet. All the really diehard fans know who I am and I'm pretty sure they found out my blood type as well. I walk through the doors. No one looks twice at me. Thank goodness my disguise worked, I was getting a bit claustrophobic on the bus.

I go to downtown Seattle and I acquire a map. I go directly to the Space Needle. Looking up at it, I realized just how homesick I was. I've been on tour with the boys for over six months now, ever since they started their tour in London, and I've missed my hometown, Toronto.

My makeup career began when I was in high school. I was a beauty guru on the internet and had quite a few subscribers. When I didn't get accepted into Western for medical school, I decided to make my hobby a full time job. I had worked the occasional event until now. The Next Star, a couple minor television shows, but nothing as big or as long as the whole tour with One Direction.

Lou had been looking for an assistant for quite a while, someone who she could teach her ways to but who also had a bit of experience. Her uncle and my dad do business together and are good friends, so here I am now, with this job, that actually pays quite well, considering I don't need to pay for housing or electrical bills or things like that. The only thing I pay for is my food and my personal wants.

I check my phone once more. It's 4:30, time to head back and get the boys ready for their show.

I get to the dressing room and see everyone in a panic. I walk over to Ryan who is texting frantically on his phone.

"Ryan?"

"Go away I'm busy," he snapped.

"It's me, Alison."

He looks up at me, his face relaxes.

"Oh Alison, thank goodness you're here!"

"What's wrong?"

"Lou can't come in today, she's sick."

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE'S SICK?"

"She has food poisoning, she's been throwing up for the past twenty minutes."

"WHAT?"
